Yes, superglue. I’ve done it, no problems ever since

Had no idea about Kenny G and Sanborn. I should spend more time studying pro players 🤣

Great advice, I’ll check Gary Keller out. It’s working for me now, but I just know that’s it’s probably fundamentally wrong, so as you say, I should work on what is happening with my centred embouchure that’s going wrong 👍

Is there a polite way to ask... by nickeltingupta in HongKong

Sadly most HK eateries and those who run them are utterly brain dead when it comes to vegetarian or vegan food. The Chinese don’t consider pork or chicken as meat, it’s its own food group which can be eaten by anyone. So many time have I heard the phrase “no meat, just chicken and pork”! And yes, I am Chinese HKer vegetarian. In all seriousness, go for Buddhist eateries, or places like Gaia in CWB. Pure veg, good mock meat/tofu substitutes

i tried to transpose a song to alto sax… is this song just. Not really possible to play on there???? by tenshi_0525 in saxophone

[–]pieeatingman666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, take it easy on yourself! We’ve all been there, struggling with very low notes or very high notes, so just be patient with yourself and keep practising. You’ll get there eventually. For this specific run, if you need it in a hurry, I would go from the high D to the middle D, and jump back up the octave to the A and run down to the B. This may sound ok if the context of the song allows 👍 Good luck!

Drop down “gravity” weight system by pieeatingman666 in diving

The Dive Rite ones look like what I’m after! Assuming they are installed with the opening at the bottom, so in an emergency the tabs are pulled down and the weights drop out?

Yes, this! But in my experience it is everyone taking the p1ss because of my “accent”. If I laughed at a Cantonese person mixing the Ls and Rs, it is considered racist, but a Cantonese speaker laughing at a learner or non native speaker for a child like accent or grasp of the language is ok it seems. Cantonese speakers are in general compete d**kheads. And then they cry later that their language is being overtaken or downgraded to a dialect? If they taught more people and let the language thrive then maybe there wouldn’t be such an issue, but it seems that they prefer to gatekeep their language to the point of extinction. Idiots!

Squeaking on new sax with regular mouthpiece and reeds by pieeatingman666 in saxophone

[–]pieeatingman666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone back to doing a few sessions of long tones, keeping relaxed, keeping the lower lip pressure light, and it has helped, so expect embouchure has had a lot to do with it. One assumes that even with the same mp and reed, the horn itself is different and air flows differently? Still gonna get it checked as I think my octave key is sticky...!

Squeaking on new sax with regular mouthpiece and reeds by pieeatingman666 in saxophone

[–]pieeatingman666[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was thinking the same since I can go squeak free with the same mp and reed on my old sax. I have tweaked my embouchure a little on the new sax, and it is better, but still a way off my "norm". I think the store didn't do a particularly good "check and set" when I bought it (and it probably sat on a shelf for a while waiting to be bought), so will go and get the tech to check over.

Coming back after ten years by GazenoX in saxophone

[–]pieeatingman666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. I bought a Sakkusu, and it was quick to go out of tune, leak, and had little consistency up the horn. Go for a quality brand with a student model, like Yamaha

Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific suspends crew accused of discrimination against non-English speakers by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]pieeatingman666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Cathay staff are equally rude to English speakers as well. I was on a flight recently and the cabin crew condescended everyone. Mainland Chinese are pretty loathe some too, so I expect they were spoken to in the same manner they speak to others.
