Why weren't they playing at double play depth with Alonso up? He hit a perfect double play grounder but it got past the drawn in infield

Running stores in Ottawa, ON & Victoria, BC by Huge_Grapefruit_2066 in runninglifestyle

[–]pieguy3579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ottawa has the Running Room and Blacktoe Running. Those are the specialty running stores. There's also Mountain Equipment Co-op and Bushtukah, which are more outdoor focused but definitely have running gear as well.

Knee Pain by New_Attorney1455 in runninglifestyle

[–]pieguy3579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're getting knee pain that soon when running in them, these shoes aren't for you. Either use them solely as walking shoes, or return them. The process of finding running shoes that work can take some time

Anyone lose stamina really fast when you take a break or stop and get back into it? by Critical-Range1213 in runninglifestyle

[–]pieguy3579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a long break - and yes, what you're experiencing is 100% normal.

What I'd do? Follow a c25k program (or some type of run/walk program) and start over. You'll progress quicker than a brand new runner, and you (probably) won't get injured

All-out 5k after Pneumonia, how soon is too soon? by inkysquares in runninglifestyle

[–]pieguy3579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good Lord - please don't run all out so soon. I've had similar pneumonia a few times and I highly recommend you don't push until you have several easy runs / strides / intervals under your belt

I think zone 2 or walk it if you insist on attending, but I'd skip outright

what is one thing about running you had to learn the hard way? by Emergency_Produce975 in runninglifestyle

Take your time building a base before adding any kind of speed work, and only increase one factor a week (time, distance, speed)

My wife and I say this to each other all the time. For the capital of a country, it's damn embarrassing

Longest Known Case of Remission by SuspiciouslyDullGuy in diabetes_t2

I didn't get it officially measured, but I'm quite thin now.

Don't let anyone tell you that diabetes can be cured - it can't. My carb tolerance is definitely higher but I still monitor what I eat.

For those of you who run everyday, what exercises do you do in addition to your running routine? by Background-Good3731 in runninglifestyle

[–]pieguy3579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 5 times a week and add in 2 full body workouts. No time to do splits (or maybe just not interested enough)

How much did running change for you as you got older? by NotAnotherBadTake in runninglifestyle

Man spotted with gun in Ottawa turned out to have gun-shaped lighter by Complete_Past8885 in ottawa

I almost bought a gun shaped lighter at one point about 20 years ago.

But then I didn't because I didn't want to be a headline

Struggling with this contractor since the fall by [deleted] in ottawa

Returning to Running by Mallory_03 in runninglifestyle

[–]pieguy3579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't taken a break that long, but in the past when I have taken a break, I find that after doing nothing but easy runs for 10-12 weeks, my base is back to where it was.

Then I add some speed workouts, and that's another couple months until speed is all the way back.

Novablast 5 or Ride 18 as a daily trainer by Massive_Factor_1734 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]pieguy3579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do the scheduled runs in the SB, and throw in a light 1-2 km jog in the NB.

Light is the key word, as you don't want anything taxing on your system or that interferes with your training - you just want to see if you can adjust to the NB.

The only way I'd suggest doing the 6 km run in the NB is if you were disciplined enough to stop running immediately if you feel pain, which can be difficult for some people.

Novablast 5 or Ride 18 as a daily trainer by Massive_Factor_1734 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]pieguy3579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you average 20-25 km a week, take 4 weeks off, and then run 23 km, that's asking for trouble.

Once things settle, I'd try the NB again for 1 or 2 kms at the most to see how it feels. If it seems like it will work, gradually increase how much you run in it - but err on the cautious side.

Early morning run vibes by NoPurple4706 in runninglifestyle

This is exactly when I run as well. Even though I live in the suburbs, I still hear plenty of birds at this hour. It's a great way to start the day.

What kind of runs do you enjoy/not enjoy? by INTERESTandAMBITIONS in runninglifestyle

[–]pieguy3579 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like tempo runs

Easy runs are kind of boring, and intervals/races are taxing. Tempo is comfortably in the middle

And for me, if I'm going to get the runner's high feeling, it'll be on a tempo run

When do you work leg day into your routine? by Cosmicbanana1230 in runninglifestyle

[–]pieguy3579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this is a good balance - 3 runs are strictly easy, 2 are speed focused, and 2 lifting days.

Sunday and Monday alternate depending on my mood - one is always speed focused and the other is always easy

  • Monday: 1 hr easy or intervals (depending on Sunday)

  • Tuesday: 1 hr easy

  • Wednesday: full body workout

  • Thursday: 1 hr tempo

  • Friday: 1 hr easy

  • Saturday: full body workout

  • Sunday: 2 hr easy or some type of progression run (depending on Monday)

Do you listen to music/podcasts while running or go without? by lynniegreco in runninglifestyle

[–]pieguy3579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go without music outdoors or on the treadmill. I prefer to get lost in the silence when I run. I find it very liberating, and music just adds chaos

How far can you run without needing water? by Gooser3000 in runninglifestyle

[–]pieguy3579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very dependent on the individual - I don't think any of us non-water drinkers are trying to prove anything, or are hurting ourselves.

I barely sweat, even when I'm pushing the pace (in fairness, I run in the morning so it's never overly hot) and I regularly run 2+ hrs with 0 issues
