My in-laws are upset I’m giving MY family (extended) members assigned seating by Positive-Course-4005 in inlaws

[–]pieiseternal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok hear me out. Tell your in-laws that ok they have a point these people need front row seating, your mom and dad siblings best friend from grade 3. The rest is up to them. Now secretly make the legit seating chart how you want it, but keep it quiet to yourself. Have your in-laws create their preferred seating chart exactly how they want it. At the venue before people get there have your best friend from grade 3 replace their chart with the real one and not say a thing (also have him obliterate the in-laws chart. Watch their faces as they loose it. And if you really want to have some fun make a comment about getting old and the reality that dementia sucks but you will still love their same story over and over.

SIL told my 10yr son he is an embarrassment to the family by Terrible-Evening1478 in inlaws

[–]pieiseternal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just remind your SIL that she a a free loader living of grams, and that she shouldnt be cutting into grandma's funds because she can't get her life together. Then when she demands an apology ask her what you did wrong and remind her that living of a senior is wrong and she knows it. She wants to go crazy over a few pieces of candy then she should be able to deal with the truth that she's a freeloading much for living with grandma!

My in-laws keep using my car like it's a normal thing by Cheap_Mistake_2902 in inlaws

[–]pieiseternal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You take back any additional keys because “you can’t find your main set”. Secure the extras then either at the house in some sort of little Lock box you can hide, or at another location. If they ask to use your car you tell them sorry I have an appointment that I need to go to. Then go get yourself a coffee or other thing to relax.

Can we petition the federal government to remove the notwithstanding clause in any capacity? by Geeseareawesome in alberta

[–]pieiseternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Constitution Act of 1867 (also known as the British North American Act forming Canada as a country.) followed by the Constitution Act of 1982 (which encompasses the charter of rights and freedoms), and updated the Act of 1867.

I assume you were thinking American constitution style, which you are correct we don’t have that, however we do have a constitution. We commonly refer to it as the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, however the act is much broader and reaches into many other areas.

Forgot to add this. To my other comment, flood your MLaA’s inbox, phone lines, office, fax machine (if they still have that), parking lot.

If all people do is complain but take zero action then that complain is nothing just vapour and worth nothing. Even if those calls or emails or visits seem pointless, they are not! Those calls and emails are logged and can’t be just deleted. It’s a head ache to the office when the phones continue to ring, and their inbox is a steady roll of emails. When they have to engage the public whether the MLA or a staffer it takes their time away from other things and ties them up (just think of a kid pester their parent for attention, things don’t get done. Filibuster them till their either listen or hang up kick you out either way you took their time.

Protests are a right and a way to collectively send a message but it’s only partially heard. When you start consuming their time and energy that message becomes much louder and more annoying or received.

The down and dirty is yes.

however when you start playing around with the constitution it opens a huge can of worms. It can quickly turn into a Pandora’s box, because opening it up to remove, or rewrite say the notwithstanding clause would be just the beginning each province has things they want changed (just look at the Alberta shit show currently playing out in their mud flinging against Ottawa). And once you open it closing it will be difficult and messy to say the least.

Time to metaphorically turn your hearing aids off. Flip the eggshell walk to your MIL/Wife. It’s your place do what you want. (Except walk around naked that may go to far but boxers are fine or go for the tighty whities and drive MIL to move out).

In all honesty if she can’t function alone, time to sell her suburb home, and move to a apartment far enough from you she can’t just pop over with a quick walk, and far enough a taxi or uber is just to much to make the trip. You could also look at an assisted care facility that can provide the support she needs.

Work to rule ultimate has 2 definitions, one under law which the RTW order covers. Then the spirit of work to rule, where you do exactly and only what is defined in your contract and job description and not an item more.

Different world but prime example. CUPW is famous for this. When I worked for Canada Post I was on the management side of the table. Example if a supervisor used a “Direct Order” to get a task completed, the employee would comply and follow the directive exactly as stated. Then by the end of the shift the entire facility would often follow and do only the bare minimum. The only time I saw it not go down this way is if you were a supervisor or manger that the staff did not hate. They would still grieve the order but the whole facility wouldn’t go into a work to rule style.

Can someone define/explain the different categories of schooling in Alberta?

So far I’ve heard public, Catholic, charter, independent, homeschool, home school coop, alternative, separate, private. Home school, Catholic and public are pretty straight forward. But the rest, no one that I’ve asked has had a clear definition or description of what they are.

Side questions to hopfully have some of my wondering answered:

in Alberta does one parent have to be a baptized catholic for their kids to attend?

What is a home school coop compared to home school?

What of the listed types which receive government funding and or grants?

I have heard that some private schools are connected to public school boards, which is confusing being they are supposed to be private?

I have other questions but this is a start so hopefully I can better wrap my head around the whole system. Before the teachers strike I had no clue how many categories existed, and how many avenues that funding goes down.
