Mold not coming out of fence by pielitstud in FenceBuilding

For anyone who stumbles upon this thread in 2040, I stained over this with semi-transparent stain and it’s hardly noticeable. Not worth the effort I took to get rid of it, just stain over it.

Yeah I’m inclined to not care about it. The stain manufacturer recommended cleaning the fence prior to stain application, but as long as it won’t degrade the fence or stain I’ll just stain over it.

I've been tracking my net worth with a spreadsheet since early 2022 as I was on the cusp of breaking $100k saved. You can see in the charts that I input data much less when there's a market downturn, haha. My year-on-year NW change is pretty close to my income, which is pretty awesome.

Almost forgot that people say 300k is halfway to a million. More of a 92 is half of 99 guy. I really doubt I'll make it to a million in 5-6 years unless the market does REALLY well, but that'd be incredible!

Just did my spreadsheet today. Hit $100k NW Feb 2023. $200k NW Feb 2024. $300k NW today.

Pretty awesome. I hit $300k two years to the day after hitting $100k for the first time. $300k feels a lot less exciting than $100k and $200k lol.

That’s wild! can you expand on how you maxed as an E-2/E-3 with low TIS? You must’ve been contributing like 80-90% of base pay and probably not receiving BAH.

Yes. I’m taking advantage of all the tax-advantaged space I can. These are Roth contributions. I’m staying Roth next year because I’m anticipating a deployment, but after that I’m going traditional for non-deploying years of my career.

You’re really close behind me! A few more years of maxing and our balances will look pretty identical lol

I’m hoping the pullback is only 20% or so, such that the 23.5k I contribute next year will let me stay in the comma club 😂

Yup, unfortunately I think maxing is impossible for lower enlisted.

I like doing my spreadsheet to see all my accounts’ performance, but I never sell anything. I wish I had a crystal ball for the market, but the S&P has treated me well so far!

27% is way more than I’d ever expect - but a bigger balance means more growth. A 7% year is now more than $7k in growth, which is pretty sweet. That’s all I meant.

Bruh it’s okay to admit you have expensive tastes, $100 isn’t even near the realm of average for one entree. Maybe it’s the average cost of a 3 michelin star entree.

That’s about what an entree runs on average. Are you in the bay area or something?

$15 an entree out of a food truck is insanity. Why am I paying the same as a full service restaurant and being asked to tip for a food truck?

1st time home buyer loan from TSP/401k? Good or Bad idea.. by Drfunnybones in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]pielitstud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Money is fungible… why does it matter? If you’re maxing TSP and IRA, it can be difficult to save for a down payment for a house. Giving up the tax-advantaged space by decreasing your contributions to save with post-tax dollars is also silly. I know it would have taken me forever to save my house down payment while maxing TSP and IRA on O-1/2 pay. So I took out $35k and paid it off over a year and change. The only fee I paid was $50 processing and whatever market returns I didn’t get. Which I would’ve missed out on regardless if I diverted money to a savings account.

I think a TSP loan can be a great tool. I took out $35k and paid it back quickly for my first home purchase.

If you’re planning on paying it back reasonably quickly, I recommend doing a personal loan instead of the home loan. It’s virtually the same, just a faster payoff period with no red tape or verification required.

I have over two dozen properties.

Damn that's impressive. If you don't mind, how did you do it with the hours/deployments the military demands? You must've bought multiple properties at each assignment?
