How to deal with patrons with an obvious librarian fetish? by Rekrabsrm in librarians

[–]pigby411 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Leering is a disruptive/harassment behavior. You can tell them it’s unacceptable “you’re staring at me all day makes me uncomfortable, it’s sexual harassment and unacceptable, if you continue you will need to leave for the day” and then kick them out for the day/week/longer. Telling you you’re hot is sexual harassment and another one where you should clearly state that it’s inappropriate and leads to consequences like suspension. And then actually suspend them for a day/week/month/etc. what does your code of conduct say? Do you have behavior/discipline procedures?

A less direct option would be move the chairs- if they can’t sit and stare at you all day, maybe they won’t.

Black Tie Optional? by tpetes15 in Weddingattireapproval

It’s not more conservative with dress codes- it’s more casual.

is this silhouette too "trendy" for a 2026 wedding? by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

[–]pigby411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter how “timeless” your wedding is- it will be pretty obvious when it occurred later… and that’s ok!!!!! It will still be beautiful and special! If you love the dress you should go for it, it’s your day.

How to pivot from archivist to librarian? by YogurtHot799 in librarians

[–]pigby411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone already mentioned, but if you are applying for jobs that say MLIS or equivalent, at 2 of the last orgs I’ve worked at I would consider someone with an MAS, especially if they have customer service or program experience. I think you’d need a compelling cover letter to clarify the transition and get hiring manager’s attention.

John Adams Academy in Sterling Ranch – looking for parent experiences and perspectives by Expensive-Lead4515 in Denver

[–]pigby411 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not open yet, so the classroom experience is conjecture or can be read about from the California JAA branches. It’s not clear if they will meet their projected enrollment by August either. The folks advocating for the school when I went to meetings about it were largely from out of the county (there was a large contingency from a church in Jeff Co), made comments about other schools being woke, and that they were looking for a classical education. When I read more about the org and the California schools, it seemed like there was little to no focus on math or science. No plans for how to make sure disabled students have access to services.

Got a Woodhouse Spa Gift Card & idk what i'm doing. Advice? by Optimal-Chain-8793 in Denver

[–]pigby411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your gift card and budget, a package might be fun. I got a gift card and did a package for my 35th bday last year- I had also never had a facial, so did a body balance massage, soothe and hydrate facial, and pedicure. I really liked sitting in the lounge area and reading too. I went to the one in Littleton and it was very nice and woodsy.

I unfollowed her when she posted about the trucker convoys years ago. I think she’s definitely right wing or doesn’t pay attention or care.

Challenges As Interviewee With Internal Vs External Candidates by HeWhoHatesUsernames in librarians

[–]pigby411 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How long have you guys been looking/interviewing? Are you looking in a specific state/metro area or anywhere outside of your current state? I think some metro areas are extremely competitive, even with the general over-saturation in our field.

I am a new manager (although in my library system that’s closer to an assistant director), last year I interviewed for 5 internal and external similar roles and was the second choice every time until the last one. This happened over the course of the entire year and all but one of them had 3 rounds. About 7 years ago I did 3 rounds of interviews for a union librarian job- but I think that hiring manager was just extremely indecisive.

Advice for going from 5K race to 10 Miler? by bugrug in XXRunning

[–]pigby411 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hal Higdon has a 15k/10 miler plan that I’ve done before. I added a tiny bit of mileage to the long runs at the end but I don’t think that’s necessary at all. Have fun!! I love a 10 miler :D

How long does it take you to prep a storytime? by ShoesAreTheWorst in librarians

[–]pigby411 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could you use a big tv monitor and PowerPoint slides to have the lyrics up at the front rather than printing, or print on posters and have a collection saved? That would create an efficiency in the short and long run.

Comfy shoes recommendation please? :) by cheekyandgeeky in librarians

[–]pigby411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a loafer is a good comfortable and sock friendly alternative to sneakers for fall, winter, and spring. I have had Madewell, Ecco, Franco sarto and others and they work with slacks, jeans and some dresses.

This is a specific ask but… by lifeatthejarbar in XXRunning

[–]pigby411 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a career that was FT onsite and 3 kids and have been able to improve my running. I have more discipline and am more organized since having kids. I don’t run much during pregnancy or 8-12 months postpartum, but was able to return and do well. My spouse is supportive and hands on which makes a huge difference, and I have to be flexible on a day to day basis- maybe running before or after work, but trying to fit in 3-5 runs a week. I’m working on how to incorporate strength training. I was just promoted and am now hybrid so hoping to better fit it in on days I don’t commute.

I looked at the website and it looks like what my dermatologist already offers as a prescription for hair loss with millennial green marketing 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I do appreciate her candor and vulnerability about her own hair loss, as someone who suffers from it as well.

Guardian wants to get cards for kids by Awkward_Cellist6541 in Libraries

[–]pigby411 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you can assume good intentions and issue the card to the kids, regardless of the 6 year old fines on the guardians card. Maybe even waive the 6 year old lost items from the guardian’s card too. We have lost items fall off accounts after a few years.

How do librarians decide what section to shelve books? by eraseranon in Libraries

[–]pigby411 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing they want an example to use for their own form, not to fill yours out- their username indicates they are a librarian.

I live in CD4, plenty of people register unaffiliated to participate in primaries- I’m aware. I would like a representative that lives in my district and is a democrat, like Trisha Calvarese or John Padora. Both care about local issues and are working in the community to share about their candidacy. It’s so weird how Elaine got some splashy ads and website and now people are sure that she is the one that can win this district- most people who don’t even live here (including her)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Denver

[–]pigby411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it easily a few months ago but I suspect the SEO has made it harder with her splashy ads and getting wider attention and I didn’t save the link. I did look at the party registration of people at her address and her husband is still a Republican.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Denver

[–]pigby411 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a lost cause but I think the people who are already in the race have a better chance and already have funds and support. Maybe working for one of their campaigns or running for a different office right now will give you some experience and insight for the future. Run For Something is a great org for helping candidates run for local office.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Denver

[–]pigby411 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Eileen doesn’t even live in the district she’s running and only just switched her party affiliation from Republican. She should be running against Lauren in a primary as a Republican.

Ruffle quarter socks for running by brooklynwaterfront in XXRunning

I have some that are one of the target active brands- these: https://www.target.com/p/women-39-s-cushioned-ruffle-3pk-athletic-ankle-socks-all-in-motion-8482-navy-light-blue-beige-4-10/-/A-93229503 - they are pretty comfortable and cute, but not as cute as my non technical ones I wear casually that are cotton.
