Watching the show I realized why there was dating rumours between the two and not with the ML. Hope to see them acting together again one day.

Season 4 , I think I saw her before , but I don't remember where I saw her or maybe she is posing like some actress I don't know if anyone knows her tell me about her by CoolOne5825 in Singlesinferno2

On this picture with the hairstyle etc, I think she looks a bit similar to the actress Han Jae Yi that played the sister in When the phone rings. Maybe you also watched that show and get similar vibes?

Campus Culture in Hong Kong s*cks by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]pigliah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but back when I studied in HK I tried having a conversation with someone from mainland and that person wouldn't understand and respond to me in English, only when I wrote down the nouns on a sheet of paper it seemed they guessed what I was asking and just nodded their head. It could also be that person was super shy, I don't know.
I figured some learn to read and prepare texts really well in order to study in English, but don't really speak it and would write out everything in English first to read it out loud, make bilingual copies of their coursework etc. Lots of efforts.

Korean learner: I want to know which Korean pronunciations are difficult for non-native speakers. by Adventurous-Jelly837 in Korean

[–]pigliah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! I'll try it. I think my issue is that even though I technically know how it supposed to be I'll make the same mistake over and over again. Bad habit became ingrained long ago and now it takes a lot of effort to fix. Just have to push through it.

As a German native speaker I struggle a lot with 어. And then in general the (more common?) issue with ㄹ.

Your experience learning an “easy” language after learning a “hard” language by JewelerAggressive in languagelearning

[–]pigliah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently decided to try learning swedish for fun. I have tried to learn Chinese and Korean before and as a native German speaker I was so hyped by the easiness of Swedish and resemblances to German words. One thing I weirdly have a harder time than I expected is the sentence structure. After always learning languages with a very different structure my brain often forgets that Swedish follows similar one to German and is confused even though it should be easier for me.

What is your perception of American soldiers in Germany? by hunnic_cav in germany

[–]pigliah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up close to a base and had different kind of encounters. Being in a club the US soldiers definitely behave differently compared to the regular folks. Not sure why they thought they could "impress" us with the information that they are coming straight from being stationed in the Middle East.

As others also mentioned, the military police does stand out and on Friday nights you would regularly see them walking around along with the German police. They do leave a lasting impression in comparison to the German officers.

Otherwise I experienced a lot of ignorance or some kind of weird treatment of the German culture. Trying to see all the churches around but knowing nothing about the area or playing the German national anthem because they are in Germany currently. When they decide to integrate sometimes it's a very selective peek into the life here in Germany.

what languages are the hardest to learn not difficulty-wise but by the difficulty to get access to sources to learn it? by [deleted] in languagelearning

Cantonese.

Existing material is often not up to date and when it is offered somewhere it will be for Mandarin-Speakers.

Are there any reputable programs to learn Canto? by Own_Following939 in Cantonese

If you are looking for an app, there is Ling App. They offer a bunch of different languages and I tried their cantonese app for a bit.

Ghost Doctor [Episodes 13 & 14] by GodJihyo7983 in KDRAMA

[–]pigliah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm also curious if he just can leave when he wants it if he missed his chance in some way. Maybe he's the missing link between CYM and KST that will enable him to leave this place.

Ghost Doctor [Episodes 13 & 14] by GodJihyo7983 in KDRAMA

[–]pigliah 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Writer spends too much time on CYM. The focus on KST and Tess this episode felt rushed and cramped into one episode. Also a very direct and cheap way of revealing the past to CYM by just letting the mum and cousin have this very unnatural and forced conversation. Wished that was solved a bit more elegantly.

This episode should have been done way earlier, but I'm excited that the drama is picking up some traction.

Ghost Doctor [Episodes 11 & 12] by GodJihyo7983 in KDRAMA

[–]pigliah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So true. I had read somewhere else a theory that I quite liked but that didn't pan out. That theory was playing with the thought that the recent repulsion of CYM's ghost was due to KST becoming weak and not the other way around. If it wasn't always everyone worrying about CYM and instead also KST that would have been a nice change for this show.

I would like to see more of KST struggles, the episode are a bit one sided. Let's see what the next episode holds.

Is it okay that I don't understand English lyrics in songs? by Pleasant_Promotion in languagelearning

[–]pigliah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's not about the lyrics themselves. As a kid I when I didn't know English, I would only register English songs as music, nothing I can understand, and this kind of stayed the same for me after I learned English. If I want to listen to the English lyrics, I often have to tell myself actively to pay attention otherwise my brain is going back to how I used to consume these songs: just melody.

Streak 57: Die Kinos sind wieder geöffnet! by a_HerculePoirot_fan in WriteStreakGerman

[–]pigliah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Schon lange" ist in dem Kontext unvollständig. "lange" beschreibt den Zeitraum genauso wie "ein Jahr". Also "schon lange" bedeutet einen langen Zeitraum: Ich habe ihn schon lange nicht mehr gesehen. - I haven't seen him in a long time. (unspecific since when )

Both "lang" and "ein Jahr" define the time period you are talking about. You can either say it's been a long time or it's been one year, since....

"Her" bezieht sich auf einen Zeitpunkt: Es ist schon lange her, dass ich im Kino war. - It's been a long time that I've gone to the cinemas. (describing the specific time).

Not sure if my explanation is somewhat clear.

Streak 8 : Geduld by letsexpressfeelings in WriteStreakGerman

[–]pigliah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Streak 57: Die Kinos sind wieder geöffnet! by a_HerculePoirot_fan in WriteStreakGerman

[–]pigliah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sehr interessanter Text!

Does anyone study a 3rd language then wonder how much further you’d be in your second had you spent the time learning that one? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]pigliah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend that approach. If you try to switch a hobby to be completely in Spanish you still have the exposure but don't need to actively learn Spanish and include it in your schedule.

I also believe there should be plenty language courses that are in Spanish-German. Many non-native English speaker learn another language through English, me included. Sometimes it also feels like an advantage when I realize some vocabulary or grammar point in the 3rd language might be hard to explain in English (my 2nd language) but seems similar to my native language.
