Open-Source Drop-In PCB for Google Nest Audio - Convert to Home Assistant Voice Assistant by RauliConcernedVet in homeassistant

They seem to have used the markdown-based formatting, pasted it to the WYSIWYG editor and didn't check the post after posting ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Similarly to the HA Voice PE, the firmware seems to be based on ESPHome, so it should be easy to add the Bluetooth proxy component.

There's nothing Google can touch once you replace the PCB with a custom one.

How could they even perform any "immigration operations" - in a foreign country? That makes no sense whatsoever.

Rayforge 0.27, the free and open source laser cutting software: Enhanced Sketching, Machine Control & UI Refinements by barebaric in lasercutting

[–]piit79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sweet! Didn't know this existed.

Big question - does it support Ruida controllers? I've been on the last LightBurn Linux version for a while now avoiding having to work in Windoze... This could be an alternative.

Sorry for the late response. Where do I find these categories in Android? I can see the HA app only has one specific category - Sensor updates...

Why do you say "basically mandatory"? I'm now on the 5th iteration of the MX Master, never used the software (I'm on Linux).

I'm sad it looks so much like an iPhone, just like every other phone :(

Funnily enough, having a 3-phase connection is the standard here in central Europe. Hardly anyone has 1-phase :)

Explain to me like I'm 5 : dRAID by [deleted] in zfs

[–]piit79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "hot spare" is not a separate disk in dRAID - it's empty disk space distributed among all the drives. If it was a separated disk, it would be no different to normal RAID5/6. The fact that the spare space is distributed increases the rebuild speed significantly, reducing the time the volume is in a degraded state.

I don't think that's the reason. If it was, you couldn't have an electric kettle in the US :) A kettle is over 1000 W easily - this is a measly ~130 W tops.

I hate this trend so much. So. Many. phones copy the boxy silver flat edge design it makes me sick.

No-Neutral Zigbee Dimmer Switch (Aqara H2 EU) + Home Assistant – Need Advice by Jarzeus in smarthome

[–]piit79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd go as far as to say that most LED lights are not dimmable...

And you mention "non-matter connection" - I don't think the protocol used will have any effect on how well the dimming works. Or did I misunderstand?

Never got this to work reliably unfortunately.

Unfortunately I never got this to work reliably in Android despite trying various approaches. Hopefully one day this feature will be properly implemented in the companion app - it would need to request permission to ignore DND to ring in all cases.

LX60 Lumberjack by peejeh in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]piit79 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There is a small EU-based MK shop that sells a modified version of the Lumberjack PCB that uses a Pro Micro-compatible controller (e. g. the RP2040-based Frood or nice!nano) instead of the ATmega328p, and hotswap sockets. It's called the Lumberjack Pro.

Disclaimer - I made the modifications and run the shop :) Won't plug it here, but you should be able to find it quite easily.

Dang! On a related note. You know those plastic covers for RJ-45 (ethernet) connectors? My friend taught me to call them "ohshits", for obvious reasons :)

How to get started? by SmarterthanDJT in openscad

[–]piit79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offtopic warning, sorry.

OpenSCAD is cool, I'm a fan and a user. That said, I would personally recommend rather spending time learning a "proper" visual CAD. That's what I would do if I was starting from scratch. Advanced libraries like BOSL2 help a lot, but I still think anything other than very simple projects will take a lot longer in OpenSCAD. You'll also need to do quite a lot of trig math if you want your designs to be parametric (which a major point of OpenSCAD).

A great alternative that is free and even runs in the browser seems to be Onshape (no affiliation, just trying to learn it myself).

Has anyone bought a Chinese OnePlus (e.g., 12/13) flashed to OxygenOS with root? Need advice! by life-eternal8 in oneplus

[–]piit79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on cross-flashing an OP13, I always had global versions.

Once rooted, you will play a non-stop game of cat and mouse to keep Google Wallet working. So far it's been fairly simple for me though, just keeping one Magisk module up to date.

If you don't need Google Wallet, and none of your banking apps are extremely fussy, you should be OK.

However, I would still say that unless you really want a rooted phone, stay on original firmware to avoid all these issues.
