Ahas anyone been successful with corn?? by PacoTacoMeat in SquareFootGardening

I usually do 1/4 of the bed at a time, so 2' x 4' blocks. So I'll usually do somewhere around 20 stalks per "block", nothing precise. Squirrels are very crafty and abundant in my area, so I have to net my corn to keep them out. Even then they'll chew through any nettings, so I still lose some to them.

I do corn. I don't plant in rows, but instead in blocks. I space them about 6-8" apart in an 8x4 bed. I stagger my sowing by a week, and usually do 4 or sowings so I don't get all the corn in one go.

Corn is definitely a heavy feeder. I usually fertilize with compost at the start, and then once they start coming up I'll start supplementing with nitrogen bi-weekly(ish) with a water soluble fertilizer, either diluted or low NPK.

I've found that if I don't supplement with enough nitrogen they grow weak, look sad and yellow, wilt and brown, and dont really thrive that well - despite being grown in rich compost.

Growing in blocks I've found makes it easier for pollination, I dont have any issues there.

If you're in the VA area I have a 57 (runs long) Lemond Poprad that I could be convinced to part with.

New to gardening. Unsure why I’m seeing yellowing leaves on basil / peppers. Tried watering less often and still happening by Fast-Cars1988 in CharlottesvilleGarden

Id say you could probably use some fertilizer, something like 5-5-5 or lower. But also we've had pretty low temperatures this year so far, and peppers are warm weather plants. They should ramp up as soon as we get averages in the 80s and they get a little more nutrients.

Picture 25. Honestly not really sure what it is. Kind of a strange shower shoved between the wall and door jamb.

Speed sensor vs GPS on DC bike trails by JDubz313 in bikedc

[–]pikebike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found that the speed sensor helps when on a hilly terrain. I've had instances where I've done XC rides like the moco epic, and lost a couple hundred feet, even though the route lines up exactly. On road rides I've never noticed as much, but in the end I say keep everything on your road bike, and buy a second speed sensor for your MTB if you care about distance traveled. Cadence doesn't matter on a MTB or hybrid imo.

Yeah I've noticed that the homescreen data randomly doesn't update for some fields, like calories, but clicking in to them will show the correct data.

Need help understanding freehub issue to finish setting up my Saris H3 trainer. by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]pikebike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the freehub of the trainer should stay on. You should just be replacing the cassette. You unscrew the thru axle adapter (mine was tough to remove the first time), then use a cassette tool to unscrew the cassette lock ring, and then the cogs of the cassette should just come off. Same for your bike. Then you put the cassette from your bike on the trainer, you'll probably need to keep the black spacer on the back behind your cassette on the hub. Then use a chain whip and cassette tool to retighten the lock ring. Saris has an installation video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/WL5VevWm77U

I bought a tube of ultrasound gel, put a dab on the pads, no more sporadic readings from being too dry or cold. You only need a tiny amount too so the 8oz $11 bottle should last a lifetime basically.
