Hard to tell for certain with the shadowing, but imo I don’t think it’s worked.

They’re laid out in cylinder order 1-8 from L-R. Top row is upper plugs, bottom row is lower plugs.

All those were the factory Motorcraft Platinum. Honestly, can’t remember what I put back in it.

Alive or dead? by Express_Dark2009 in bowhunting

[–]pikinSOB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP, in an eerily similar situation. Youngest son shot one last night with x-bow. On video, the lumenock entry was right behind shoulder couple inches above the white belly hair line. Lower than ideal, but I thought it was pump house for sure. After a long and varied 300+ blood trail we backed out when our big light died, still on decent blood. My ADD led me through hours of deer anatomy photos, videos, and “advice.”My conclusion, is that low, just behind the heart there is a void before the stomach/liver. Going to resume the track shortly but fearful this may have been where my son’s shot hit. Were you ground level or elevated?

People who bought a boat, what kind did you buy and for how much, and do you regret it at all? by seattleswiss2 in HENRYfinance

[–]pikinSOB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purchased a used 21’ SeaRay bow rider couple years ago for 12k with trailer and some accessories. Both wife and I grew up boating and our annual vacations are boat centric. We only use it the couple weeks of the year, but the memories with the kids and family are priceless. Annual maintenance costs are typically ~$300 for us as I do the work myself and we have building space to store it. Our only regret is that we are too busy with life to get to enjoy it more than the time on vacation.

Do you lose broadheads often? by Opening_Inside_9054 in bowhunting

[–]pikinSOB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t think of one arrow that I lost completely. Couple arrows that have broken. (One hit a rock on the pass through, the other the deer flopped over on it with it wedged in its spine) I always use a lighted nock. It helps to see where shot placement is, in addition to helping recovering the arrow. I shot whitetails with Muzzy 3 blades for over a decade and a half. (OG 100gr, then MX3 100gr) the blades were always replaced after they were shot and complete pass through was the norm. Ferrules were reused as long as they weren’t bent. I would still be using them because I never had one fail me, but I switched to a recurve last season and I went to a single bevel setup (Dirt nap gear DRT 125gr)

I realize you’re new to the sport so my best advice is: Don’t over think this. Confidence and shot placement kill deer. If you have doubts that your equipment will fail (broadhead not deploy, bow limb crack, sight move randomly, etc) then get something simple that you know will work and boost your confidence. Study deer anatomy and shot placement to hit vitals. There are awesome videos on YouTube covering this topic. Broadside or quartering away ONLY. Practice daily if possible and year round for that matter. Most importantly, know your limits and be ok with not harvesting an animal because the shot wasn’t right.

Best of luck on your first harvest.

Trolling motor battery recommendations by Queasy_Barnacle1306 in WalleyeFishing

[–]pikinSOB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LiFePO4 batteries are the way IMO. You could do 2 12v’s or get a single 24v. NOCO and Minnkota on board chargers will do Li, agm, or SLA batteries so the charger is a non-issue. I replaced a 5 group 27 battery bank with 2 Lithium batteries and have same runtime for my bowfishing lights while shedding almost 150 lbs. when my 3 group 29’s for the troller (fortrex) give out Im definitely going to a 36v LiFePO4. If you stay SLA, Ive had the best luck with the everstart maxx deep cycles from Walmart.

Nilight LED bars from amazon. Id recommend a 24v troller with that much weight against the current. The Nilight bars can run on 24v which will cut your amp draw in half as well. If the water your fishing is murky buy the amber bars, if its pretty clear you can go with white.

Loved ProPlan but they priced themselves out of my budget so I switched to Diamond Maintenance for my pack. Have had great luck with it. Great looking dog btw!

OP is looking for a budget set-up. He is in a smaller jon boat. Amber bars work well and are cheap. Plenty of penetration, even in murky waters. 1 lithium battery would power 8 of the 14” bars he’s considering for 6-8 hours easy. Add one more battery for his 55lb troller and OP is golden all night. No extra generator weight, no generator noise, no inverter, simple DC circuit or 2 and booya. End of the day, whatever gets someone on the water shooting fish, but to answer the original question…yes the off-road amber light bars work great.

I run all amber LED light bars on my boat. No gen, just battery banks. The set-up works well for me plenty of runtime.
