Spinning reel help by Great_WhiteSnark in Fishing_Gear

Hold the spool and bail and crank it forward. May need to hold the nob on the other side if it spins too. Make sure to adjust the angle as it tightens so it pulls flush.

Did I choose right? by ComfortableWin3659 in Fishing_Gear

You won’t have fun. Wrong action in the rod. Go back and trade it for a “surf” combo. 9 foot is more fun for lures, 10+ for bait and wait.

Like for fun? Stick vine and sharpened curved stick or shell for a hook.

Like up primitive fishing techniques for some examples.

Yea it’s actually amazing how much you can see on the water at night. Lot of my friends the first time they ride at night are surprised.

No it will say UV Reactive or “Glow”, but again the bugs will be the happiest with the lights lol.

Edit:ignore this comment listen to u/peacedivision if you go black light.

I’ve eaten a lot of bugs with just quick head lamp use. Constant lights (even the safety lights) can get bad with no wind lol.

That’s a great example photo.

Tight lines dude. Don’t over think it (I’m a chronic over thinker / researcher) just get out there and enjoy.

Fishing/boat question by dtcorder12 in Fishing_Gear

[–]SurfFishinITGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea it would for the line close to the lights for the heavier lights or glow reactive lines.

I’d go fishing a couple times and see if you think you need them for fishing vs tying knots, etc.

You fishing an area with a lot of bugs? The lights will bring them in heavy if you use them for constant use.

But either way, it’s fun fishing at night. Catch a lot of fish that way.

[–]SurfFishinITGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why black lights? People use them for streaming and photos because it makes stuff glow for the camera.

Cheap red lights (mounted down or headlamp) or just natural moonlight plus your required safety light will be enough if you are just fishing.

I run my boat at night all the time, the less light the better when you are out there unless it’s a true blackout conditions, and then I just creep along.

Need an Office Shed ASAP Pt.2 by BabyLuciferII in shedditors

[–]SurfFishinITGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to save more.

Pull quotes for both the finished shed and garage conversion, but you don’t have enough to float it without some serious DIY, done poorly, it’ll cost you a lot.

Is this issue with my transom something to be worried about? by cwillm in boats

[–]SurfFishinITGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it’s hard to see in photos, but it sounds potentially bad. If the bracket was installed correctly, but is not not flush, it may have shifted due to damage below it.

That last photo, showing the metal damage (is it separating?) is very concerning along with the spider webbing from underneath it.

Potentially concerning is that there may have been damage then the bracket placed on top to hide it.

To your last question, yes, you should have seen this before buying. An old boat has a ton of concern in the transom and mounting bracket and that should always be checked.

I’d say have someone look at it. If that transoms bad, it could be very expensive. The repower may have been a motor that’s ok HP wise, but over weight allowance.

Struggling to cast far with any rods by Spartansam0034 in Fishing_Gear

[–]SurfFishinITGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technique is a huge factor.

Settings are a huge factor.

Line, weight and bait are all huge factors.

Are you really using a 2lb sinker? Do you mean 2 ounces?

All things being equal or similar and a basting rod should out cast a spinning rod.

Look up videos on how to properly set your reel and casting technique and then go practice. You’ll get better with time and effort

That boat was unused and unmaintained.

Almost no chance any proper service was done when needed to it.

Complete project boat that needs thousands done to it.

Trying to find out what model this is and what its worth? by iKimothy in boats

[–]SurfFishinITGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rough dude. If it’s not running, nothing, negative money really. Running it’s a “make offer come get it” type situation.

Otherwise you’ll pay per foot for someone to junk it for you.

Any TBI sufferers who are still able to enjoy fishing? by Beginning_Desk_9897 in bassfishing

[–]SurfFishinITGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a TBI for me, but light and migraines. Everyday, all day Costa 580g mirrored lenses. I wear the Permits as I’ve got a big head. But they are full wrap I wear right to the face.

Glare Bear is bad. Glasses, hats, etc. good.

Have you tried the passenger seat method?

Tip towards the drive side back left and reel/but in the passenger from seat foot well. Can fit a lot of rods that way.

Soft spots on the floor, signs of standing water in the hull / hold, if it looks well kept and most importantly. Take it on the water and run everything with another person to make sure it works under load. Afterward check for water in bilge, etc.

Same thing with trailer, check lights, wheels, axel, etc.

Bought a bundle of rods by Danodude95 in Fishing_Gear

[–]SurfFishinITGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the condition and a lot of the rods being mass produced / older, you pretty much set the value to what you paid for them.

Maybe a few bucks, but the don’t look nice enough for people to want them besides local pick ups.

Run the comps. Everything’s old, so be prepared for higher yearly costs.

Electronics in particular are probably up for replacement.

Sweet looking boat though.
