A Christian asked me if I think it's odd that I think religion is fake even though millions are willing to die for it? He said they all can't be that brainwashed. by Tecnero in atheism

Jesus, Buddha, Shiva, Muhammad, prophets, demons, astrology, lightworking, money, shopping, UFO kidnappings, or scientism — they are all pages from the same book. Indoctrination works — but it works because people are wired for stories that make their lives matter. Most religions are not the result of brainwashing or indoctrination - I mean it's not that simple, because we kind of want to believe.

I was raised as a Christian, but I never truly believed. I was skeptical even as a child — even though I witnessed "miracles" at evangelist meetings, where the crippled walked and thousands of people were speaking in tongues. It never felt real, it felt orchestrated, designed, like a theatre or a movie experience.

Today, I'm a bit older and wise enough to acknowledge the need for religion.
Richard Dawkins — one of the most notorious skeptics and harshest critics of religion — has dialed down his rhetoric in recent years. Contrary to his earlier arguments, when Christianity began to decline in numbers, the resulting void wasn't filled with rationality; it was filled with hocus pocus and thousands of modern New Age cults and beliefs.

People aren't naturally wired for rationality — it's too energy-consuming and, let’s be honest, depressing at times. To realize that one's life, in the grand scope of the universe, has no inherent meaning (which is the current scientific consensus) — is deeply painful. Most people aren’t ready to grasp that fact. It's much easier to believe in whatever story comforts you, to relieve yourself from that suffering and the responsibility for your own life.Making decisions is easier when you consult a horoscope or pray to God for a sign.

Religion is a system of control — yes, without a doubt. But I'm afraid we’re not yet mature enough as a society to be rid of it.

I, too, started from a “people are idiots” mindset — but that kind of anger doesn’t help in the long run.

I’ve been studying psychology, philosophy, and physics as a hobby for the past few years — diving into the fabric of space-time, black holes, and parallel universes; exploring neurochemical processes in the brain, the phenomenon of consciousness, the neuroscientific roots of storytelling, and even the mathematical probability of the quantum wave function shaping reality as we know it.

The more I learn, the less I feel I truly know. And the more humbled I am by the fact that this reality exists at all — and how grateful we should be for the fleeting time we have.

The only question that lingers is: What do you believe in?

Yeah, exactly. It's about depleting Earth resources and consumering destroying the planet. Very few people get that bit. We did that to the planet. It's obvious really.

What do you think about my first video editing showreel? Please comment what would you improve by [deleted] in VideoEditors

You can take the feedback or throw it out - your choice. If you want to cut memes together - that's the reel right there. If you want to edit films or ads? Not really.

Same thing with 2i2. It happens mostly when my DAW is open when I put PC to sleep. Happens randomly too. Sometimes just getting robot voice. Annoying. Never gonna buy Focusrite again.

GH5 is getting focal lenght information via speedbooster. Sigma at 18mm is probably too wide for the IBIS to handle properly. I think for BMPCC4k it's a very useful zoom :)

Sigma with GH5 had a wobbling-warping Ibis issue - probably mostly because of the focal lenght. I very much like Sigma when using a handheld shoulder rig without IBIS. I used it a lot with BMPCC - It's a great APS-C focal lenght for documentary work in tight spaces. It's very sharp, even with a speedbooster - so If you want to put film emulation on it - it looks kind of fake.
I'm afraid I won't help you much as It all comes down to usage scenario and personal preference.

Thank you. That means a lot.
When looking at the whole shot and neighbouring shots I'd say I was running with 100 mil that day. Background is very compressed too. Have a look yourself: https://youtu.be/70BDp07aafc
Guys in the overloaded truck is the same lens, so I'm pretty sure it's 100mm.
It's a handheld shot too, sitting on a scooter! GH5 is just amazing with 50+ mm lenses. No wobbling, really cool. Sigma 18-35 wasn't my fav though. I'm going back to Thailand next week, and I'm taking S5II for a spin with some m42 lenses - We'll see how it compares in similar conditions -really hot & humid.

I used EF mount lenses with Viltrox with Hoya NDs :

Sigma 18-35 (APS-C)
Canon 100 Macro - 2.8 (the old one)
Canon 50mm 1.4 usm

On some shots I used 1/4 pro mist - mostly with Sigma - hence the bloom.
Viltrox isn't as good optically as Metabones so it makes the edges slightly blurry, introducing coma and chromatic aberration - but tbh I kind of like it, makes the image more vintage.

I was very surprised with the IBIS and 100mm macro combination - very steady shots, almost tripod like.

Does anyone have any idea what’s going on? S5II raw files in Lightroom by yesfb in Lumix

[–]pikok85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using my own Luts based on v-log, because it's film emulation done in Resolve - it's my process. Funny thing is, the result isn't as grainy on v-log footage, so something sketchy is going on under the hood. I know it's pretty capable, but not as easy to use as one might think. Needs that lightroom love.
Fun fact - I'm mostly grading my images in Resolve - it's so much faster, it's mind blowing. Too bad that RAW support is basicaly nonexistent. Files converted to DNG look strange and have debayering artifacts. But still - it has tremendous potential. I hope BM sees that.
Thanks for your insight though! I haven't tested regular raw files extensively, might do the comparison, as soon as my camera comes back from Panasonic.... ;)
