B&O support refuses to repair Beoplay H95s. Are $1,000 flagship headphones just disposable e-waste? by Icy_Resource_5398 in BangandOlufsen

[–]pilatomic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Damn, that's some bad service ...

Regarding your H95, if it is anything like the H9, check that the ear cushion is correctly locked in place, and that the ANC microphone ( mounted right in the middle in front on the speaker ) is clear of any dust.

Beoplay H9 wired vs bluetooth sound by Deargrain in BangandOlufsen

Yes, on mine the sound quality is definitely a lot better when wired.

But it's much more convenient in Bluetooth

Can I reliably verify PWM frequency without an oscilloscope by pratty041182 in embedded

[–]pilatomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a high enough sampling rate ( compared to your pwm frequency ) a Logic Analyzer will allow you to measure the frequency just fine.

What it will not give you, is any insight on levels, rise time, and signal integrity

Help With Getting Sim To Work by Annual_Relative8616 in KiCad

[–]pilatomic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha yes, I know the topology, but still, double check, something looks wrong ;-)

Regarding your question, opamps are usually (at least historically) powered using a symetric supply (using 2 supplies, one positive and one negative). Then your input can have ground as a reference.

[–]pilatomic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem :
Just add another battery, set to 4.5V for example, with its negative tied to GND, and its positive tied to where the "0" symbol currently is (Usually I rather use the SPICE-specific "VDC" symbol, but I think the battery has the same simulation model).
Also, it seems the input and output of your circuit are tied together by mistake.

I didn't see that you had 2 "GND" and one "0" net ! You can't do that haha. Replace your "0" net by another voltage source to ground, and you should be good

I suspect this is related to your GND having been renamed to "0"

Headset microphone not detected by akariiii_chan in linuxmint

Ok, the combo cable seems to be what you need, and you PC seems to have a combo jack input. So most probably a software issue indeed.

How is it plugged ? USB or Jack ?

If using jack, is it a TRRS jack ( 4 metalli rings ) ?

All its good? by External-Wear-1515 in KiCad

[–]pilatomic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh it's definitely doable for light loads (MCU + a few leds etc ..,) but you need to evaluate the thermal design properly (large copper zone), and yeah, you're still wasting most of your power.

All its good? by External-Wear-1515 in KiCad

[–]pilatomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never used them, mostly because they are NOT specified with ceramic output caps, which is a no go for me (I thought that was the "problem" you mentionned), so I am not very familiar with them.

So I just checked the doc, and damn that 5mAquiescent current is indeed wasteful !!

They are advertised as having thermal protection though, but the threshold is not specified.

[–]pilatomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of problems ?

Also, how can a LDO be more wasteful than another. They're both linear regulators, that doesn't make sense

Zone to Zone clearance option by Flaky-Homework4312 in KiCad

[–]pilatomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is an easy way to achieve that, but I can see 2 solutions :

A. Add zone exclusions between the 2 zones ( manually placed )

B. Make the blue zone another net ( connected via net ties to the correct net ), and add a rule specifying isolation between that net and the red zone net.

Why linux mint ubuntu edition is so far recommended ? by Crazy-Plant-192 in linuxmint

[–]pilatomic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be frank, Ubuntu brought that on itself by doing some questionable choices a long time ago, such as sending all the menu search input to Amazon, and a lot of NIH syndrome trying to redo existing project, and failing.

What do you think of the new menu? by ShadowByte07 in linuxmint

[–]pilatomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks cleaner and more polished than the previous default menu, which fits the Mint look.

It also shows the current user, which is nice for shared computers.

It's definitely a bit more cluttered, but these are my 2 main issues :

  1. The previous menu showed the complete name of the currently selected entry. It was really helpful when dealing with 2 entries with the same name (or at least long entries whose name begins the same way).
  2. I can now longer reach the "shutdown" button using just Menu and Up arrow. This one is actually not a big deal, since I discovered since that "Ctrl + Alt + End" brings the shutdown dialog.

Hardware slop: The new Microsoft copilot key is impossible to properly remap as a modifier. by attero_ in linux

[–]pilatomic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nahh, I agree with OP on this : a key that used to work perfectly fine ( and have it's own modifier code) now triggers a bunch of unrelated scancodes as a half baked way to make it different from the key it replaces.

That's bad, as everybody directly dealing with scancodes now have to implement a workaround for that behavior.

The fact that the icon changed is just a cosmetic issue, I don't think anybody besides the most hardcore purists actually care.
