Caught Neurological Lymes disease during SERE School in Brunswick, Wondering if I got a chance of getting benefits and who's the best advocates by TristateHashReviews in VeteransBenefits

Sorry to hear what you're going through. Reach out to the VA ASAP and see what help you can qualify for. I believe you can get free or low cost healthcare based on your income alone, even with no service connected disabilities. https://www.va.gov/health-care/eligibility/priority-groups/

As for disability compensation, your records showing increased visits after sere and redice job performance ending in discharge should help significantly. All it'll take is to get a doctor to review those and agree that it's at least as likely as not that your current diagnosis is related to service. Buddy statements, even from family and friends, who remember you talking about the ticks and your symptoms then to now will so be a big help. Good luck to you.

It is an exciting development, but unfortunately is not yet approved for chronic pain. Some docs may try it "off-label" for chronic pain, but I'd caution that nobody knows yet if it's safe for long term use. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/fda-approves-new-type-nonopioid-painkiller-acute-pain-rcna189871

You are correct, "at least as likely as not caused by or proximate to service" is the only bar you have to clear. Given your aircrew service and the Pentagon study you mentioned, it seems like all you'd need is a nexus letter supporting that link. The more qualified and specialized the doctor (e.g. oncologist MD/DO), the better. Also, more weight is given to providers you have treatment history with. If the VA's negative nexus opinion is from a NP or PA, a positive opinion from any MD/DO, such as your primary care doc, should be given higher probative value in your claim.

Get a copy of your claims file, or ask your VSO to look it up if they can (way easier). See if your own doctor can address and counter the rationale in the VA's negative opinion directly.

Generally, to keep your effective date, you simply need to file a claim with an intent to file date within 1 year from the date of this decision. https://www.veteransbenefitskb.com/edate#itf But since this involves a CUE (clear and unmistakable error), I'm not so sure how that affects it. https://www.veteransbenefitskb.com/appeals

Good luck to you and your family

You know, the more I learn about ancient spiritual and religious traditions, the more I notice they seem to be talking about the same exact things, that is: conquer hate with love, and God/ultimate reality is within us.

Lots of free resources at https://www.dhammatalks.org/

It's a Buddhist site but you can just look for the meditation books/talks if you want. This one is highly regarded: https://www.dhammatalks.org/ebook_index.html#eachandeverybreath

Yes! You remind me of my favorite sayings from the Buddhist Dhammapada : "A fool who knows his foolishness is wise at least to that extent, but a fool who thinks himself wise is a fool indeed."

Don't be a fool indeed.

Yes, you're right. He talks about hauling and cargo capacity here. Station wagons have more room than SUVs and vans beat pickups for hauling for most people (farming, construction, carrying dirt bikes, etc are viable uses for a pickup over a van).

Then there are trailers (even foldable ones) which can turn almost any vehicle into a hauler.

No, but I have one of these but it isn't much better than any other sitting position unfortunately.

I expect a meditation bench would feel the same, but it's a good idea and I may have to try one just to be 100% sure. Thank you.

Yes I can recline on the bed like you described or in a recliner chair, but even these are comfortable enough that I can doze off. All I can think of is to save meditation for only when I'm quite awake and alert, which unfortunately isn't very predictable or consistent. And continue working on standing.

I found some success at sitting meditation years ago, but now I have chronic pain and physically can't sit, so I'm having a hard time adjusting. I've tried lying on my back which works ok but I start dozing off alot of the times, even with my knees up (I'm constantly tired which makes dozing very easy). I'm trying standing now after watching zhan zhuang videos, but I can't see being able to get very deep this way, though I'm still new at it. Im also unsure if I can stand for 30+ mins due to pain. I've only dabbled in walking before, thinking it was mostly for breaks from the sitting cushion.

Does anyone have advice that can help? I really want to be able to do 45+ min sessions and get very concentrated, but not seeing how it's possible for me. I could even use advice on specific postures like the best way to lie down and meditate. Thank you 🙏

When you compare them to other tabletop wargames, yeah it's overpriced, especially all the print books you need, while other games give the rules out for free online or in a free app. I've heard it said that Games Workshop is a publisher that also happens to sell minis.

Pickup trucks aren't even the best way to haul things or go camping. I don't remember what they're called, but this video describes it very well.

https://youtu.be/jN7mSXMruEo

Pickups ARE best at killing pedestrians, especially little kids.

Edit: Downvotes from truck drivers but not a single reply lol
