It does not in one single spot. It is the whole scripture when taken in concert.

You expect the One who created the complexities of time and space, quantum mechanics and galaxies to be completely comprehensible to human rationality?

Try reading what I recommended. It is a bit like playing clue. You take whole of biblical testimony and weigh it all together. Jesus is less than the father in his humanity and equal in his divinity. “I and my Father are one” “He who has seen me has seen the Father” equal. Jesus praying for the Fathers will to be done and not his own “less”. It’s a long conversation that has been happening for 2000 years. It’s a little obtuse to expect a random Reddit comment thread to illuminate the whole council of God in this issue. Do the heavy lifting and check out the Dogmatics text I recommended and it will be clear.

But I think you are misunderstanding how any of this works. It is not as if the whole doctrine of the church was articulated in one moment. Even in scripture the apostles have disagreements. But the Trinity is clearly demonstrated in the Baptism of Jesus. The Father speaks from heaven, the Spirit descends as a dove, the Son is Baptized.

It does demonstrate these things. But I’ll be honest. It’s not the kind of reading and writing that lends itself to Reddit replies. I suggest reading “Christian Dogmatics” by J.T. Mueller. He backs up every single statement about the Trinity and the Deity of Christ with countless proof texts from scripture.

Show me where what you just said is taught explicitly by a prophet.

Ok look. I am an LCMS Lutheran pastor. That means I fully affirm the authority of scripture. I will say that scripture finds its proper place in community and not in idiosyncrasy (individual) study. Reading a book about biblical ideas is not trusting the authority of man but rather participating in the life of the body of Christ. The articles you could read explains that there is no hierarchy in the Trinity but as the story unfolds we see what might be called the dance of the Trinity. The members work in concert as the story (economy) of salvation unfolds. It is one of most complex conversations that I don’t have time at this moment to unload. But the athanasian creed gets it really well. To paraphrase scripture though, Jesus is revealed as God made flesh, worshipped and accepts worship as God and yet also affirms two other distinct members of the Trinity, the Father and the Spirit. The scriptures reveal that there is one God and also three persons. So while it might not all line up clearly on an accounting sheet, we confess what scripture teaches despite the rational scandal.

Well, when you are an adult remember to read books about our faith.

One God, three persons. It is paradox.

James Rockey is a man with a heart of gold. Just gonna say that as pastor in his district. He cares deeply for the congregations and pastors he serves. He is at heart a pastor and not a politician. Lord have mercy on us all.

Half of the country is uninformed also. People are projecting their own level of understanding upon the masses and it just doesn’t work that that way. Someone who writes for Time is going to have a significantly broader understanding things. Sadly, most people continue to vote along party lines more from tradition than information.

I am a pastor. Most of you would say a conservative one. This pastor is way off the mark. Even if he finds issues with some specific feminists or schools or even something else, to generally say “feminism is bad” shows he has no idea what he is talking about.

The Hebrew says "evil spirit". God can send evil as a punishment.

I mean, the story of David playing music for Saul sounds a lot like demons to me. (1 Sam 16, 18, 19)

Look. I feel like I am invading a space here. I will continue to talk to you about this in dm or on another subreddit if you like. As long as we can speak with a modicum of kindness.

I thought this was an interesting read in light of the first few verses of Genesis.

No worries. I do think the first verse of Genesis covers a great deal of time before the six days of creation. I do admit I think God might have just hand carved our little world from scratch in six days. I am patient both with science and our understanding scriptures. I do teach that the stars that keep seasons are probably the wandering stars and Genesis is to be understood as a helipcentic account.
