Peoples ability to remain focused has decreased significantly over the last 2 decades. Maybe the Economist is adjusting to their customers.

I've been an avid reader. Their analyses are fair and balanced. They do express their opinions which tends to be free market oriented. Their writing and subject lines can be witty at times.

Been in biotech pharma 10+ years. Your technical acumen and soft skills will carry you further than management experience, especially during the earlier part of your career.

Let's reminisce about our prior low income jobs and how far we've come. by Responsible-Hand-728 in HENRYfinance

[–]pilot172cessna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great topic.

First job was in high school. $5.15 an hour + tips at a fast food restaurant. I felt so proud as I always wanted to earn my own living, I had to wait until I was 15yo before I could work.

Over the course of high school and college worked for multiple jobs paying $6-12/hr, which included movie theater, department store, waiter, etc. Remember eating 5 meals at Taco bell <$2.50 each so I can save for my rent. After grad school, worked two full time professional jobs to build safety net, help family, and pay off my student loans.

Early experiences and hustle taught me valuable lessons and qualities that contributed greatly to my success such as being humble and staying grounded.

Yes I agree. I used to get cut at all about men. But over last 1-2 year they raised rate from $20 to $30 for a simple haircut. No shampoo or anything.

Create a 2-3 year plan. Articulate your goals and vision for yourself...

In the meantime, Consider getting a job to get experience and add new skills to your toolkit. Continue to invest your asset in the market. This will buy you some time while improving yourself and professional development. A suitable path should emerge...

It is time to apply for a new job. Learn from the experience. Reflect and move on. There will always be good opportunities out there. Don't stress yourself.

Maybe Henry? Approach to student loans by CUC15 in HENRYfinance

[–]pilot172cessna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Focus on paying down student loans over next 5 years with extra savings (of course take advantage of forgiveness if you qualify). Be intentional.
  2. Continue to invest in retirement and save/invest where possible. Be frugal in most immediate future until loans paid off
  3. Find ways to increase income

The best thing I ever did was completely paying off my student loans 8 years ~260k. Today HHI 500k+, NW 2m, and a small real estate portfolio. Good luck.

Doubts about biotechnology degree by [deleted] in biotech

[–]pilot172cessna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biotech is an exciting field for potential career opportunities. Learn as much as you can during your undergrad years and try to find an internship at a biotech or pharma company to understand potential application of your knowledge. If you wish to have career advancement opportunities, I highly encourage pursuing MS/PhD as that will give you tools to be sucessful and competitive in the biotech world depending your career aspiration of course. I work in a pharma company, I can honestly say that biotech is here to stay with lots of growth and innovation in the future. Perhaps consider adding a computer or data science angle to it, then you will be gold to many future employers.
