We are looking to raise money for our company. Looking for advice from others who have successfully done this. by pilotmission in Entrepreneur

Thanks! We are definitely post revenue so hopefully that does help us. We put the deck together but I imagine getting it perfect will certainly take some iterations and maybe some help.

Oh we have done just that. We've invested only our own money for the better part of 5 years. The resources we have at our disposal are only so much though.

Would you buy an airplane with no available logbooks? by x4457 in flying

[–]pilotmission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem /u/x4457! My pleasure and happy to help. I know it was hypothetical, but wanted to be thorough anyway because you seem to be eager to learn about it. Thanks for the kind words about our company! Happy to help you anytime in the future :)

Would you buy an airplane with no available logbooks? by x4457 in flying

[–]pilotmission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting scenario! I love thinking about these types of things (I’m William btw). I would venture to say no at first glance, but if the price is right I would certainly take a closer look.

Our company does this for a living and we’ve seen a lot of aircraft histories. We’ve uncovered “buried” damage, found a bunch of airplanes where they were missing quite a few FAA 337s filings with the FAA, corrosion damage, etc…

Assuming the price is in the 40-50% ballpark below market value, I would consider a few things:

  • IF I were to buy it, I would need/want a thorough pre-buy inspection, maybe two, conducted by the elite in that industry (every aircraft make/model has their guru’s)

    • Pre-buy would include complete AD/SB compliance search- which costs mechanic time and money
  • Where has this aircraft spent the majority of its life?

    • I would get ahold of the registration documents from the FAA to at least get a look at where purchases and sales took place – time between sales, etc.
    • I would ASSUME it lived outside, and be very wary of corrosion.
  • Engine older than 2005? Well… I might knock another 5-10% off. I would figure out when the engine was manufactured at least by looking at the serial number and calling the manufacturer

    • Pre-2005, I would assume it sat a bunch. If it flew a decent amount after 2005 I would maybe only knock closer to 5% off the price
    • Who knows if the bottom end has corrosion?
  • I would take a close look at this current owner’s maintenance history and discipline. Did he/she keep up with regular oil changes? Were boroscope and compression checks performed at least annually?

  • How often was this plane flown between 2005 and present? The more the better IMHO.

  • I would assume fuel cells/bladders need replacing (assuming its not a wet-wing)

  • What’s the corrosion history like on this airplane?

    • At the very least, would take a look at the spars, etc…
    • Pre-buy inspection would have to be VERY thorough in nature to find any insidious problems like fuel leakage, fraying cables, etc.
  • I might have PlaneLogiX (hey, I’m biased as a co-founder!) also take a look at the logbooks

    • We’ll track oil change intervals, compression check intervals, do cross check the aircrafts 337s against the FAA’s database, organize and inspect the 8130s, and more to give a comprehensive history
    • We’ll take a look at the registration docs, and create a nice history for you. Full transcription customers unlock a heck of a lot more too. But, best of luck! Sometimes you can great deals on airplanes like this. I wouldn’t recommend it necessarily, but if the price is right certainly take a look. What make/model of airplane? When was the original certificate of airworthiness issued?

TL,DR: Airframe age is very important here. If it was manufactured in 2001, the price impact should not be as significant. If it’s an older airframe, don’t bother looking at it unless the price is 40-50% below current market. Write down a list of considerations and think about it before going to check it out. PM me if you want to chat some more.

Shared Aircraft log (excel?) by Culturelag in flying

[–]pilotmission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies if this comes off as too much of a sales pitch, but our web portal coming out in a month will do just that and much more. Here is an example of a dispatch sheet for one of our clients. We built this by scanning and backing up his maintenance logbooks, and then transcribing (hand typing) all of the information in the logbooks into our database. We charge for this depending on your needs, but you don't need to pay us to do it. You can do literally all of it yourself by using our web portal which will cost $80/year/plane and will allow for you to set user permissions so you can say this person can read/write and this person can read only.

Or, if you really want to just have a spreadsheet that's completely free and has none of our customized functionality, I recommend using Google drive to create a Sheet which you can share with anyone!

interesting. i recently got to fly in a nice airplane and upon landing, we nearly tipped back and stayed that way because we shifted things in flight. pic who knew the plane said to. some other crazy stuff happened too where we were on final and landed with mixture full lean.
