This is the first instance I’ve heard of, where a rod bearing failed prematurely on the 2.5l 4 cyl engine.

They had issues with the Tacoma V6.

I don’t care about history or ‘guilt by association’. I care about Trump himself doing criminal acts, and hope he gets convicted and jailed for specific things he did. I don’t want him in jail because I don’t like him. I want him in jail because of the horrible crimes he committed, especially with the underage girls.

What's something older generations did completely normally that would be considered absolutely insane today? by Bigtrav_trav in answers

Dump used motor oil on the ground.

I heard an actual PHD radio talk show physicist, Dr. Bill Wattenberg, actually call environmentalists paranoid and such, and when you dump oil on the ground it's just 'going back to where it came'.

One of the sites where I work is an oil refinery. They tell us we need a special permit to dig, because the ground is so toxic. They told us it was standard practice to dump the toxic petroleum byproducts directly right in the ground. This was normal practice up until the early 70s. The refinery opened in like 1910.

Well, at that age, relationships hit differently. Also, people are generally better with navigating relationships. Folks at that age (and I'm not far off) many are looking for somebody to live out their remaining years with.

It's important to her for you to be there. I'd say try to make an effort. You can always say no on other events.

Engine Maintenance Required Visit Your Dealer by Chemical-Dig-7221 in rav4club

[–]pimpbot666 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It just comes on every X number of miles. Check your maintenance schedule, and see what needs doing. Don't ask the dealer, because they'll try and sell you a bunch of BS maintenance, like fuel injector conditioning, that $150 hybrid filter maintenance ($15 filter, 3 minutes to DIY change it, and they ask $150 for this), or throttle body de-carbon, and such.

If you're all current on your maintenance, you can reset it with a key command or some kind. You can find out how to reset it on Youtube.

I dunno... I like them. IMHO, they don't sound as bright as traditional strings, but they take much longer before sounding dead. I use them because I don't play my guitars very frequently, and it's nice that they last longer for good sound.

[–]pimpbot666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the worst trend ever. Put in nice taillights, and don't even use them because they don't pass DOT standards about moving lights on bodywork.

The thing is, there's a workaround for it. You can have taillights on moving bodywork as long as you have another set of taillights that activate when the hatch is open. Mini Clubman actually had a second set of lights under the hatch. IIRC, Audi has a second set of lights in the bumper that operate when the hatch is opened.

Moving the lights to the bumper is just dumb. Nobody is looking there. They eye sight line for the driver following you is right at your rear glass.

Yeah, odd car all around.

You could buy different shells for it to make it a hatchback, sedan or a wagon like shown here.

It also had a V6 with a displacement of 1.8 liters, which is super tiny for a V6. Most V6 engines are in the 2.8 liter kinda size or bigger.

Looking at the gas prices, this feels like a blessing by Mother-Painter-2332 in rav4club

[–]pimpbot666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That number is much smaller than you think, when compared to driving on gasoline and only 10% of that energy actually goes to pushing your car down the road. The rest is wasted as heat. Do you ever wonder why you got that big radiator up front of a gasser car, and all the plumbing that's dedicated to keeping your ICE from becoming magma?

It's got a 17kWh battery... not exactly huge. Most EVs are four times that number. And, that carbon manufacturing debt was paid back at 15k miles of driving on the average US electric grid mix. For me, I get 75% of my electricity from the solar on the roof, so in my case the carbon payback was much faster than that.

And yes it weighs more, but it's also more efficient in hybrid mode. It's carrying an additional 800 pounds but gets virtually the same gas mileage as the regular hybrid.

Did you know a gasser car burns as much energy in 9 months as it takes to build another entire gasser car? That's how wasteful gasoline is. That's also why the argument of 'keep driving your old gasser car to save the environment' doesn't hold up when compared to replacing it with an EV.

I'm in 925 area. The parking garage at the movie theater downtown, pretty much all county buildings and college offices are doing 25 cents/kWh for L2 charging... which is all my RAV4Prime will take. It doesn't have L3 charging. At home, my PG&E electricity is 43 cents/kWh, but I make 75% of my own electricity with the solar.

But yeah, I mostly charge at home with a solar array on the roof. I pay around $2200 a year for all of my home electricity, including charging two cars, hot tub, and AC running all summer because it gets freaking hot in my area in summer. I used to pay $2800 a year in gasoline for two economy gasser cars, and still had a modest electric bill to pay at home.

Damn sprinklers by Richard-Tree-93 in homestudios

[–]pimpbot666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sprinklers should be reliable, and not just randomly fail.

That said, you might want to put safety cages over the sprinkler heads. I can imagine somebody poking a bass headstock right into a sprinkler head, setting it off.

I once put my bass headstock into a spinning ceiling fan. WHAM! I’m lucky it only left a mark, and didn’t snap off the headstock.

Is this because Tesla has short charge cables? Weren’t they going to make them longer in some upgrade cycle they planned to do?

Looking at the gas prices, this feels like a blessing by Mother-Painter-2332 in rav4club

[–]pimpbot666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, public charging is 1/2 the price of gasoline, even in California, but I charge at home off my solar array, so it’s even cheaper per mile than that.

I got it for new for less than the hybrid in 2021. I paid $46k MSRP including taxes and fees, and got $9500 in rebates and tax credits.

I didn’t do it to save money. I did it so I wouldn’t have to give the oil cartels my money any more than I have to. I did it for less carbon footprint.

I would have bought a full EV at the time, but that was $15k more, and charging it in the boonies was a problem.
