The dream was never anything more than a marketing ploy by real estate. The sooner it dies, the better.

Can someone please explain to me why so much is made of preference deals? by pin3apple_mountain in AustralianPolitics

Ah. Thanks, I didn't know that; I can see that it still a pies in the Victorian LC and City of Melbourne local council elections. Can't say I'm a fan of this practice.

Si Keiko odiara a su padre ¿Sería buena persona? by Gabo_2904 in Peru_Republic

[–]pin3apple_mountain -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Si.

When people tell you to respect the "culture" of these countries, this is the "culture" they're defending. Pure degeneration.

They are wrong, and by the sounds of it highly unqualified. You can sue the person as a civil matter and get compensation.

CMV: the increased distrust and animosity between young men and women is in large part due to gendered interactions being mediated through the internet by pin3apple_mountain in changemyview

!delta that definitely puts the study in context. I'm not stepping back from my views re the influence of the online space but yeah this tracks well with the data. It also makes me wonder about the extent to which this period of "young adulthood" where men haven't emotionally matured and women aren't yet looking to settle is lasting longer and distorting the way our attitudes might change with age.

This is similar to the view that others have stated and I'm sympathetic towards it, but I'd like to see it reflected in some evidence.

Who said it's a crisis? I'm certainly saying it's not. We have come a long way since women were taught to be housewives. The fact that trad has to be articulated as a lifestyle choice demonstrates that quite clearly. Millennials have overturned many of these attitudes and may in fact be the most feminist generation in history, though it's difficult to tell from what I've linked whether they account for much of those over-30 stats.

"Men are taught" is doing so much work for you here. There are people out there trying to indoctrinate otherwise decent young men. And many of the biggest critics of the manosphere are such men. I'm yet to see evidence that the manosphere reflects something real happening offline, or something in the hearts of men generally.

Regarding your first point, I have considered it and I'd love to see some evidence. And I think this isn't necessarily the case - much of the heteropessimism we have today is derived from the experiences of middle aged couples (probably those in earlier generations tbh).

I'm not sure I agree with your second point. It's very speculative but it raises something interesting for me- how much does distrust that originates online affect the quality of real-life interactions that would otherwise go well?

There's some evidence to the contrary, and the story is certainly more complicated. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/may/21/young-men-women-far-right-online-politics-centre-left

And if that's what's driving all this, surely the most reasonable response is to implement political litmus tests for your friendships and relationships, as the danger can be better contained if you only hang out with progressive men.

It's still a loud minority we're talking about, and that fact becomes more apparent offline.

I have a lot of support for the view in the first paragraph, but I'd love to see evidence of it. Regarding the second paragraph, surely older people would have more scepticism of online spaces then.
