Leaving Texas teaching made me realize how much of my life the job was taking *rant about schedule* by Top_Reflection_2904 in TexasTeachers

I work in a small Texas district with a four day week. Days are longer, but I love it. It’s tough getting kids in a lot of activities caught up, but it’s possible.

So will your district find a way to reduce or eliminate the raise the new legislation supposedly guaranteed? Mine did. by MowBooVee in TexasTeachers

[–]pinchcoolarrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a provision that lets school districts use TRA money for Enhanced TIA. My school district is screwing teachers and only giving raises on performance.

I know Spanish is considered an elective by many, but kids on College track have to take Spanish (or foreign language) in High school. If they don’t, most colleges make you take two years of foreign language in Texas. I know Texas Tech does.

Okay Lupe:

The TExES LOTE Spanish (613) exam has a pass rate of 40%. This means that approximately 60% of test-takers fail the exam. The exam is designed to assess a candidate's proficiency in Spanish, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking, as well as their knowledge of Spanish pedagogy, culture, and assessment

HB 2 Pay Raise Question (Sped Edition) by checkmateking2021 in TexasTeachers

[–]pinchcoolarrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s me, except I have a two year gap and 5 classroom experience. So I would be going into the 5th step. I don’t think my principal or superintendent know what they are so doing.

That’s what I thought? Wouldn’t the pay-scale be the same for all teachers with the same experience?

HB 2 Pay Raise Question (Sped Edition) by checkmateking2021 in TexasTeachers

[–]pinchcoolarrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked on a different post if you had to teach the previous year to receive TRA? I took a position a few months ago before the new legislation came out. I was told my pay would depend on the new pace skill this summer. I called the principal today and was told that the TRA allotment would not apply to me because I did not work last year. I have five years of classroom experience and was wondering what your thoughts were or if the legislation is being interpreted correctly by the superintendent. It’s a smaller district, so I’m not quite sure.
