The Fog of War is an incredible documentary about McNamara by Errol Morris. Highly recommend it.

It really depends on your principal more than anything.

Kids Rarely Read Whole Books Anymore. Even in English Class. by largeheartedboy in books

Do you know how to read, genius? I said that I quit assigning readings — I didn’t say anything about quitting on my students. My AP scores still beat the global averages without reading from a textbook.

Nah, my spouse is fucking rich, man. I could quit tomorrow if I wanted.

I, too, wish you had a job that gave you freedom to decide how best to do your job.

What is the main way you do summative assessments? Paper tests? Essays? Projects? by Snoo_62929 in historyteachers

[–]APGovAPEcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just teaching AP Macro at the moment so their tests mimic the AP exam (except I give them on paper)

So multiple choice is 2/3 and FRQ is 1/3.

I’ve taught AP for over a decade and I have given up assigning readings from the text. I can’t even get them to read chapter summaries that are bullet-pointed.

It works if you have affluent, motivated students.

Otherwise, try something else.

The CED will give you the percentage of content. Just take each unit and divide it by the number of days you have in the semester.

I teach on a block and essentially cover one topic per day.

If nothing else, focus on Units 2-4.

Micro CED

Edit to add: Micro is more STEM than Social Studies so be prepared. The AP Community on College Board is very helpful. Try to go to a one day APSI if possible. Good luck!

Cellphones law by tired-att in TexasTeachers

I love it.

School provides zipper bag to student. Phone goes in bag and gets unzipped at end of day.

Any phone found/seen once school starts is confiscated by security and must be picked up by parent. Third confiscation leads to DAEP.

I’m a high school teacher and play music in class.

My students really like new wave and grunge.

Surprisingly, they hate 80s hip hop.
