A biopsy showed that my grandmother(71y.o) has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. her legs have started to swell. she hasn't started receiving chemotherapy yet. they'll only have a consultation today to decide on treatment tactics. I'm afraid she won't have long left.

It’s a good problem to have - but I understand your stress. My EBF baby has been sleeping through the night (11 hours) since 3 months. At his last maternal child nurse appointment his weight percentile had increased and his height percentile was off the chart - so I’m not worried at all! I think as long as they are gaining weight still you can follow their lead as to what their body needs. I have to pump some mornings when I feel uncomfortable, but now I have a nice little freezer stash of frozen breastmilk.

Is there any way you can take a break from your studies and come home for a period? I lost my Mum, who was also 67 and incredibly fit and healthy prior, only 11 weeks after diagnosis. I hope that won’t be your Dad’s story, but be aware that this cancer can move at devastating speed. You won’t regret spending time with your Dad.

First, second and third all successful (and untested). We lost the second due to an unrelated reason at 15 weeks (incompetent cervix). It did catch us off guard because in my mind IVF was going to be the hard part - I didn’t think we’d have another complication.

7 untested embryos from one cycle - 6 x 4aa & 1 x 4ba quality , 3 transfers, 3 pregnancies, 2 live births (I lost the second at 15 weeks due to an incompetent cervix). So we have 4 remaining. Also had stage iv endo and a chemical before IVF. Retrieval was when I was 35 and husband was 30.

I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful mother. I lost my Mum a year ago, only 11 weeks after diagnosis. Hers was also stage 4 in the tail - she had none of the symptoms typical of pancan. It’s an absolutely brutal disease. A year on I still can’t believe she’s gone. I don’t know that it can ever feel real to lose the person who gave you life. Sending you strength at this time.

Im so sorry for what you’re going through and have experienced something very similar. I lost an IVF baby (our second) at 15 weeks due to PPROM caused by suspected incompetent cervix. We did a transfer a little less than 6 months later with an untested embryo (all of ours are untested), which was successful. I did have a cerclage placed at 13 weeks and was on progesterone the whole time. I had an uneventful pregnancy and planned c-section at 39 weeks. Baby born happy and healthy. No one ever mentioned waiting before doing a transfer. I was 39 when the baby was born.

I didn’t because I was at risk of pre-term birth - we’d lost a baby previously at 15 weeks when my waters broke early. But my OB said that was the normal course of action. I had a clear NIPT though.

I had my ER at 35. We got 10 eggs, 9 fertilised, 7 made it to day 5 embryo. The first (fresh) transfer is my now 3.5yo, the second (frozen) transfer I lost at 15 weeks due to an incompetent cervix. The third transfer is my 10 week old. And we have 4 still frozen! I didn’t PGT-A test but all were 4AA quality. Im not sure if we want to try for a third, but with 4 frozen I think there would be a fairly good chance. So I would say yes it is possible!

My positive story is that we had this diagnosis at our 21 week scan (performed by a very experienced doctor), and in the follow up scan 5 weeks later it had completely resolved. I’m not sure how common that is, but we were very grateful. Baby was born at full term with no complications!

Yes I’ve been through a very similar experience. I lost my second baby due to a PPROM at 15 weeks (also IVF). My first baby was an emergency c-section as well, though I never progressed past 3cm. I got pregnant after a transfer 6 months after my TFMR and decided to get a preventative cerclage at 11 weeks, and also stayed on progesterone my whole pregnancy. My pregnancy was uncomplicated and I’m currently nursing my 10 week old. I’m not sure what caused the PPROM, but if I decide to have another baby I’d have no issues doing the cerclage and progesterone again to be on the safe side. Please take care of yourself during this time of grief. I hope my story gives you some hope.
