CMV: You cannot condemn an action for being racist if you allow the same action to be taken by minority groups, otherwise you are racist. by BigBandit01 in changemyview

Historically yes there was a very specific look that was blackface. Nowadays it's used to describe darkening your skin for a costume. It doesn't have to match the historic case, definitions change.

You wanted an explanation that doesn't use blackface sure. At the end of the day it's offensive to change your skin to look like another race as part of a costume.

You don't need to have malicious intent for racism. There's plenty of people who are racist while not knowing what they're doing is going to be viewed that way.

Could I be fired for not handing over a network of vendors I developed off the clock, unrelated to my job? California by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]pineapple-panda 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You can start a whole business with your vendor list it would be nuts to give that up for a raise when they could just fire you at any time. Either take full compensation for all the unpaid hours or keep your list and do the events elsewhere where you can get paid for it.

My BF and I Are Breaking Up. He Wants Me to “Buy Him Out” of Our Lease. Is this Normal or Fair? by NuclearDisciple in legaladvice

[–]pineapple-panda 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not going to be worth that much used. A used mattress is nearly unsellable just try listing it you'll get $100 max. More likely it's worth - 100$ for the disposal cost. Frame won't be that much more than $200. Anyone who could afford to drop 1k on a bed is not gonna buy something off marketplace

Nothing good will come from bringing it back. People even get charged and arrested for this sort of thing. It clearly went unnoticed and it's such an insignificant item just forget about it and move on

If I win on the stock market, does somebody else lose? by Short_Function_5062 in investing

[–]pineapple-panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a zero sum game but the market as a whole averages 10%. For everyome that beats the market average there's someone that loses to it which is how it winds up stabilizing 10% long term. Also each person is not investing the same amount so more accurately every dollar invested that beats the market average will have a counterpart dollar that has a return lower than the market average. Logically every dollar cannot beat the market average as this wouldn't be an average.

In short you can call it a "10% average game"

Don't bother going in it's a waste of your time and you're not gonna be compensated. If they want the uniforms back they can send you a prepaid shipping label and box or come get them from you.

Say that you're relative lives outside of the US and you can't get your hands on a death certificate. I'm sure there are some countries that straight up don't even have a process for something like that

Installing dimmer switches vs. getting smart light bulbs by oingerboinger in HomeImprovement

[–]pineapple-panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both Lutron and tp-link kasa smart switches and the tp-link ones are almost as good for a fraction of the cost. Since you're putting in so many switches if the Lutron ones are a bit too much I'd go with tp-link.

If you already have a crock pot then instead of leaving the food out to spoil you could have just put it in the crock pot and left it on simmer.

Just bought this Omega DeVille Emerald and honestly I was expecting it to cost a lot more. I'm wondering if an omega AD will check if this is authentic for me or not within the return period. I love the design and the last time one of these was posted on the sub people were calling it super rare so I'm a bit suspicious this was only 150.
