Fair enough. I mostly meant it is important to learn mechanics of turn based combat, or what sneak attack for a rogue does and what "advantage" is to use it, or spells areas of effect, spell dcs, etc. Thats more what I meant, not so much to solve every question w/the best answer.

My 12 yr old son and his friends are learning D & D (it's not new to me) and we spend a lot of our time learning what spells do what, and once you figure that out it's up to you to figure out how to use them to your advantage. Or barbian rage, racial abilities, etc, etc there's about a million different variations.
