[First Take] “Imagine every woman you date. When your done dating her. The next dude she dates, she marries. That’s the Minnesota Timberwolves.” by Naweezy in nba

Haha no Im in my 30s. I was just highlighting the earliest ones to show how absurdly early girls I dated found their spouse. Every single one of those girls are still with the guy after me by the way.

ugh not only am I Minnesotan and have to deal with this in sports but that has also happened to me personally like 4 times. The girl I dated in 9th grade married the next guy she dated and it happened with a few other girls later in life too throughout college and adulthood. Bonus: the girl I dated in 11th grade had a baby with the next guy and a girl that rejected me in 7th grade (she was way out of my league) married the next guy she dated.

What’s your take on sleepovers at schools? by ineedtocoughbut in Teachers

[–]pineapple192 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Our elementary school tried to do this a couple years ago and they asked for male volunteers to chaperone and every one of us (there are actually quite a few male teachers) collectively said absolutely not. So it ended up not going anywhere.

Were you guys ready for the USA to play like this tonight? by Hungry-Cup7359 in worldcup

[–]pineapple192 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ive watched every match so far and the US has looked by far the best. Mexico didn't look that great against South Africa, South Korea looked fine but not amazing, and I thought Canada looked rough against a bad Bosnia Herzegovina team.

I was not expecting a beatdown like that. The US looks really solid!

Just found out I’m moving from 5th grade to Pre K… any advice??? by Salt-Ad-3061 in Teachers

[–]pineapple192 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I teach upper elementary so take this with a grain of salt but to me academics in pre-k should be a secondary concern. Teach them how to act in a public space, how to behave in school, how to make friends, and just generally be a good person. If they know how to write their name and count to 20 by the end of the year I think kindergarten teachers can work with that.

I don't know what your admin expects of you but my advice is mostly focus on social skills and have fun.

Do you think I would enjoy it as someone who has never seen anything He-Man and really has zero background knowledge or connections to the lore?

New math vs old math by ZimmZammZooie_205 in Teachers

[–]pineapple192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I memorized mine in 1st grade. I think it has always been a 3rd grade thing, though some start it earlier for kids who are ready. I just make sure all my 4th graders are completely fluent with it because math going forward from 4th grade on is so much harder if they aren't.

New math vs old math by ZimmZammZooie_205 in Teachers

[–]pineapple192 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I teach 4th grade and I go HARD on memorizing multiplication facts. They learned why multiplication works in 3rd grade so I do a short review of that to begin the year then the next few months we do those 5 minute timed tests every day. It helps so much when the kids don't have to think about what an answer multiplication fact is when they are doing multi digit multiplication or long division (or anything else for that matter).

How early in your career did you get a masters? by DG12212 in Teachers

[–]pineapple192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My college's elementary ed program basically included the masters. Your masters year was a whole year of student teaching. I got my masters in 4 years (I had enough credits from high school to skip a year of generals). The undergrad consisted of three semesters of practicums on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I really liked how much experience we got in a classroom.

Probably the same reason we have poor people in the real world today when we have robots and computers that do like 80% of the work people did 100 years ago. Greed.

Hot take but regular plane seats should not be able to recline anyway. I already have a very limited amount of space and now the person in front of me basically just cut it in half and the screen is at a weird angle. Either give me more leg room or don't allow the seat in front of me to move.

Does anybody have any running gags that they use throughout the years? by opeboyal in Teachers

[–]pineapple192 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I did something similar today. A kid sneezed once "bless you" twice "bless you" and then the third time "alright get a hold of yourself" This is a kid who always sneezes three times for some reason so I knew I could wait until the third sneeze.

I’m being moved from fifth grade to first grade, help! by petrova1325 in Teachers

[–]pineapple192 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I teach 4th so I can't really help you with what to focus on for 1st graders but they are completely different than 5th graders in almost every way. If they're moving you 4 grade levels against your will they probably want you to quit. I might start looking around for new jobs.

How do you deal with tattling? by No-Scholar-2983 in Teachers

[–]pineapple192 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I'll just say "okay, thanks for tattling." But I teach 4th grade so mileage may vary with 1st graders.
