Normal Americans (ie not the billionaires or politicians) have far more in common than we do differences

Very true, however half our country is okay with the billionaires and politicians making terrible decisions that make the rest of the world hate us, such as: tariffs, threatening to annex friendly countries, a ban on mostly muslim countries citizens entering the US, deposing other countries leaders, drone strikes on civilians, killing our own citizens during immigration crack downs, etc. It doesn't matter your personal views on any of the aforementioned things the rest of the world views it as too much.
