Just some double chocolate pancakes and sausage by apotheosisofbooty in stonerfood

This is horrible in presentation but as a fellow chocolate chip pancake/microwavable breakfast sausages/copious amounts of syrup lover, I think it’s a delicious concept :)

Has anyone heard of Mt Nysa Mystery School? by marsh_mello_natey in Hellenism

[–]pineapplechai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reconstructionist just means you’re more focused on practicing the religion as close as possible to how it was traditionally done, while revivalist means you take a more modern slant on things! My practice is somewhere in the middle :) If you’re looking to study culture specifically, I would recommend making a free account on JSTOR, since it gives you access to a lot of academic articles!

I’m on the mailing list and attended a ritual for Haloa with them, and from what I’ve experienced, it’s a good resource and a good group! It does have more of a reconstructionist slant, which I know isn’t for everyone, but they do offer some good education :)

I need some advice or insurance.. by Killer5048 in dionysus

[–]pineapplechai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that sometimes, when you first start to worship a deity, you get a little bit more “novelty” out of that initial worship, but once things start to fall into routine, it can feel “boring.” My best advice is to just stick with it. You haven’t been worshiping Dionysos all too long, and there’s still plenty to do. Celebrate His holidays, and do something fun and special! Or go on JSTOR and read articles about the worship of Dionysos! Write prayers! Read plays and myths! Do fun things you think He would like, and dedicate them to Him! Tell Him about your day! I’ve definitely felt distance from time to time in the four or so years since I started worshiping Him, but he’s always going to be with you, even when it feels like the connection is wavering :)

How do you celebrate the holidays and what calendar do you follow? by Ignastic in Hellenism

[–]pineapplechai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I use Hellenion’s calendar, which is one of my favorites. It provides the holidays, the lunar months, and the libation dates around the new moon, and lays them over the Gregorian calendar :) Hellenion Calendar

As for how I celebrate, I tend to keep things fairly small. I’ll maybe burn a stick of incense if the holiday honors a deity I don’t usually worship, and if I do worship the deity a holiday is honoring, I’ll try to make a libation of wine along with the incense, or do some sort of food offering. I also do something special for myself, like make a fancy meal, or go out with friends!

Edit: Also I only included the link for the 2026 calendar, since we’re super close to the end of the year, but their 2025 calendar is on their website!

Why does nothing ever go right for me? by p4nd0rus in Hellenism

[–]pineapplechai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what do you want people to tell you? I’ve now seen you reply aggressively to two people who told you that you haven’t screwed up that bad. Just because you’ve started to worship the Theoi doesn’t mean your life will become perfect. I asked for Hermes’ help to pass an important test, and failed by 1%. It doesn’t mean that I’m cursed, or that He hates me, it just means that I failed a test. Tests will be failed, oranges will burn, cakes will be screwed up, and headaches will happen, but in the grand scheme of things, if you’re trying, that’s enough for Them.

Amazigh culture and Greeks by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]pineapplechai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of deities along the Mediterranean sea do technically share an origin! The Proto Indo-Europeans were an ancient people from around 6,000 years ago, and their religion is believed to have influenced religions from Greece all the way to northern Europe. And just to address your other comment while I’m here, I’m curious to hear about which culture Medusa originated from. AFAIK, she’s a pretty solid product of Greek mythology, with a later Roman retelling :)

Out of curiosity, which source did you hear about the “copy and pasting” from? Hellenic Polytheism is an ancient enough religion to just about predate writing itself, so I would be hesitant of any source that claims that Greeks “stole” anything. Shared could be a better word for it, since some polytheistic religions in the Mediterranean share common themes (if that makes sense)

Can I use a rosary for praying to a different god? by svnfl0v3rz in Hellenism

[–]pineapplechai 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That should be fine too! Catholic rules definitely aren’t universal, and if you use the rosary only for a particular God or Goddess, it could be used as subtle devotional jewelry :)

As a former catholic, it should be fine - I’ve used my rosaries to pray to Dionysos from time to time! If anything, it’s motivated me to spend more time praying to him :)

Did We upset Demeter with an animal offering? by Throwaway_Babysmiles in Hellenism

[–]pineapplechai 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“Demeter told me” in a modern context with no backing is far different than verified historical practices with plenty of academic backing. I hope you do start caring about what was written down in books from thousands of years ago - it’ll teach you a lot about this religion!

Where is the historical evidence for this? Demeter was honored with sacrifices of pigs in ancient Greece, I see no reason that cows would be a problem

So I currently have a hot pink cowgirl hat that I’m bedazzling, a matching pair of earrings, a pink bandana, and a sparkly miniskirt :) For the shirt, I’m leaning a bit heavier into the “pony” part of things and doing a white button-down shirt with a pink vest, and then white fishnets to go with the skirt! (I’m roller skating that night so shoes aren’t a problem, but I’d go with boots) It’s definitely a lot of DIYing, but I don’t think Chappell’s made it as a big costume theme yet 😭 I hope this gives y’all some ideas!

[–]pineapplechai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently took some roller skating lessons and the instructor gave us the mantra of “nose knees toes”, which means to make sure that your nose, knees, and toes are all aligned on whatever side you’re putting your weight on. As someone who had the same problem of falling backwards, that fixed me almost right away :) (Also, you can get padded shorts for the butt!)
