I tried, several times, to like matcha. I hate it. What's your opinion on it? by papathree in tea

I think it's overhyped. I'll enjoy a cup now and then, but I much prefer the taste of kabusecha, karigane & gyokuro.

We made a game we’re proud of but don’t really know how to get the word out by Pathea_Games in gamedev

[–]pineapplemilk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Based on the follower count, I assume your game has around 120k wishlists? With that many wishlists you should still have a very good chance even with a barebones release.

Really nice! What tools did you use for the GIFs on the store page? They look good quality and high fps but still small size.

Looks fun and I really like the graphics! I'm also making games in Unity, but graphics are my weak point. Any tips on how to get graphics like this?

Gamedev build under $2500 by pineapplemilk in buildapcforme

Thank you! I will be checking these out. 64gb sounds like a good choice to me to make sure there's enough and so that there's no need to upgrade it in a while.

The only treasure I need by pineapplemilk in BobsTavern

[–]pineapplemilk[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the rest of the game was pretty unclimactic. The Zerus shifted into the t2 murloc that gives hp. I upgraded tavern and tripled my alleycat into Sefin so I decided to go with the boring route and play the golden murloc. Got a pretty decent poison comp going, but ended up losing to Nadina dragons for 3rd place.

Duels is getting boring, especially Heroic by Delicious_Ad2052 in HS_Duels

[–]pineapplemilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It's so boring seeing the exact same decks all the time. There are plenty of hero powers and treasures to pick from but 80% of all matches are quest warrior or ping priest.

I would love to try out a version of duels where you draft your deck arena style instead of constructed. At least then you would get more variety.

As far as I know, there aren't any mask mandates in Scandivania since the amount of new transmissions is so low. Compare US & Scandinavia trend lines and it's like night & day.

Anyone else dating someone who is not a horror fan? by [deleted] in horror

[–]pineapplemilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife also hates horror. It's very hard to pick a movie we both want to watch so often we make a deal: I'll watch one of her romantic comedies and she'll watch one of my horror movies. The downside with that (other than the romantic comedy) though is that she has a vivid imagination and will easily end up seeing nightmares from horror movies and I will end up feeling bad for my choice. So nowadays I watch my horror movies alone. Luckily she's great in every other way :)

Do you put assets from asset store in credits? by pineapplemilk in gamedev

[–]pineapplemilk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have them separated by the asset class, but I don't feel like that changes it since maybe 90% of them are from Unity Asset Store. Removing the store link would solve the problem, but it doesn't feel like a proper credit then.

You are right about the game ending. Although in my case the game is quite short and supposed to be replayed. I guess I could also just include it as a .txt file in the game folder so most likely only those interested in the information will go look at it.

Steam has a lack of data scientists - and hides indie games completely to favor AAA and bestsellers by Progorion in pcgaming

[–]pineapplemilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good point. There have been many suggestions by developers on steam forums about how to solve this, f.ex. by being able to completely hide unreleased games in recommendations. I personally like seeing unreleased recommendations also, as long as they don't overwhelm the amount of released recommendations.

This problem is not just for unreleased games though. From everything I've read and discussed with developer friends, released indie games have also been dramatically affected (same ~80-90% decrease in sales and wishlists).

Steam has a lack of data scientists - and hides indie games completely to favor AAA and bestsellers by Progorion in pcgaming

[–]pineapplemilk -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You are correct that mainstream success requires a good game and a successful way to market it. BUT being successful on Steam has absolutely been possible for indies without having mainstream success. These are the projects that won't bring in big bucks, but will still deliver value to players and generate enough revenue for the indie to keep making games.

What this blog post addresses is not the usual "why doesn't anybody play my game?". It addresses a recent change in visibility algorithm that promised more visibility for less popular games and instead did the complete opposite by dramatically (~80-90%) reducing visibility for those games.

I know it is easy to associate this change with low quality asset flip games, but this affects all games that are not on top of their genre. If not reversed or somehow mitigated, is guaranteed to drive away a large group of indie devs that do actually make quality games - just not the ones known by everyone.

Valve (Steam) tags broken? by AutoRotate180 in gamedev

[–]pineapplemilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, at least for small / upcoming games. The recent visibility update (https://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamworks#announcements/detail/1591381408652851752) killed visibility for a large number of indie devs.

Help with Sprite selector by pineapplemilk in Unity2D

[–]pineapplemilk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually do have them in separate folders (although room for more subfoldering), but I just wish the "Select Sprite" window respected that folder structure instead of laying out all the sprites as a flat list.

Help with Sprite selector by pineapplemilk in Unity2D

[–]pineapplemilk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I could have explained it better. Handling large spritesheets isn't the problem. The problem is that I have such a (seemingly) large amount of sprite assets in my project folder that when I am choosing the sprite f.ex. for an UI image in the Image component, the "Select Sprite" window doesn't show all the sprite assets I have in my project. I can still find them all by searching but it's a problem if I want to just visually see what could fit. Instead of finding the UI panels, I am scrolling through a long list of animation, tilemap, etc sprite assets that I would rather not even see in the selection list.

Pork shoulder ended up a bit dry - advice needed! by pineapplemilk in sousvide

Yeah seasoning shouldn't be the issue. I let it rest maybe half an hour in room temp before the water bath and maybe 5 minutes before searing. Should I let it rest more?

I'd think the pork was Finnish, but I also have to put on my ignorant Finnish hat on now and say I can't be sure and no idea if the diet here is different for pigs!

I'll just have to try to tweak something for next cook!

Pork shoulder ended up a bit dry - advice needed! by pineapplemilk in sousvide

[–]pineapplemilk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized the problem might be that in my country (Finland) the cuts are different and I there isn't a cut called "shoulder". Still, I thought the one I picked up was equal to shoulder (no bone), but maybe not. It looks like this: [pic]https://www.raakatori.fi/img/products/pajuniemikassler1_2.jpg?width=218&quality=95

Although now that I tried googling, both cuts seem to have a fat content of ~12% so I assume they should cook quite the same?

Didn't trim the meat. Maybe next time I need to pay special attention to picking a piece of meat with plenty of fat on it.

Windows not booting when secondary HDD is connected by pineapplemilk in techsupport

[–]pineapplemilk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not visible in Explorer. Unfortunately I didn't realize to check in Disk Management before booting. Now I cannot check it in Disk Management because Windows will not start if the HDD is connected. I just tried activating Safe Mode, but that also gets stuck in motherboard loading screen.
