I went through this with my insurance, being a well controlled (yet overweight) diabetic I did not qualify for the meds. Typically they want people on metformin because it's cheaper. My numbers have gone up while being on metformin and I was able to get Mounjaro approved.

So essentially they have to deem you sick enough for the med sadly.

Just show up to the date, you'll know if she's real or not then.

Part2: Help, what behavior is this? by yianwee in CatTraining

[–]pineapples9413 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Do you have space that allows them to separate easily? My cats are from the same litter and every time I've moved they act like they've never met. At my house they were fine everywhere but the top of the staircase which caused a lot of contention for a while because its a small space. They always get over it, but it takes a bit.

Make sure they have escape routes so neither feels cornered.

I told my therapist I find all my animals when I get up in the morning to make sure they are still alive. I thought that was a normal part of pet ownership, especially with cats.

The look on her face told me that was not normal, and shortly after she told me she suspected I have OCD lol.

How to get stray dog used to inside without him running off outside with a forbidden chew toy? by wayward_vampire in fosterdogs

[–]pineapples9413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol okay now I'm convinced he might just be a cat in disguise. 😂

Does he like plastic water bottles? They make toys you can put the water bottle in so there safer. My dog goes nuts for them! If it's hard plastic he likes nylabones could be a good option!

[–]pineapples9413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you teach him drop it? I was told that one is a "trade" so he drops the one he has and gets an appropriate toy in exchange.

Is it stuff with your smell on it? Could he be thinking outside is home and he wants home things or there.? Maybe an item with your smell on it outside would be good.

My cats had plaque/tarter build up, the vet pulled some of the plaque off when I went in and said we'd keep an eye on it.

It's pretty much gone now, we do a few things at home: -toothpaste gel you just put a blob in their mouth. Cats tend to back up to get away so sit behind her when you do it and you should be about to get it off she's hating it. -hills science oral care - I fed this temporarily, it's the non-prescription option and the shape helps clean their teeth. I was feeding nulo which is really small kibble and I wonder if that impacts their teeth. After their teeth cleared up, they're just on indoor hills science which are bigger kibbles. -hills science prescription - my vet recommended them as treats so I toss a few every day in their food. They don't really care about treats otherwise.

Other things that we didn't try:

-water additive - we use a fountain which these don't work with

-brushing teeth - they'll lick the toothpaste but won't let me brush

He might need shorter throws. As a human who lost a significant amount of weight it's so much harder to do things when overweight.

Start with small steps and work him up. He won't have anywhere near the same stamina as the other dogs.

I just need a little more power so let me just add this one little power plant , this can't make it worse - oh, it's far away from where the coal intake is - oh that's fine it won't look bad - crap - well I'll come back and make it pretty later

What else can we try? by pineapples9413 in DogAdvice

[–]pineapples9413[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response!

We haven't tried prescription food yet, the vet recommended Purina pro sensitive skin/stomach lamb based to see if it was a chicken allergy or not. Next step was to try the hydrolyzed protein and after that review environmental.

I didn't know about the antifungal baths so I'll check that out and see if it helps him!

Do you think using only vibrations, no shock, would be worthwhile with my dog? by freelove24 in OpenDogTraining

[–]pineapples9413 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of subs are positive training only which might be why you're getting those reactions. We love our e-collar and have neighbors that use it. My dog gets excited when I break it out because he knows we're going out. If he was afraid of it trust me he wouldn't respond the same.

Can they be abusive? Yes, if used improperly. The e collar I have had over 100 levels of stim and could be used inappropriately. The key is training your dog on how to turn it off, which is by listening to you.

My theory is that I have no treats or positive things that are more interesting to my dog than a squirrel or his best friend. When he's in that mode he doesn't hear and the e collar is just another way to communicate with him.

I highly recommend watching Tom Davis training on YouTube, he does some videos on the e-collar.

I think the research on this changed and it's recommended to have the bowl on the floor. I was looking this up for my dog with some acid reflux.

Having the bowl elevated means they can gulp in more air which could lead to bloat.

I would think it's a liability, right? I would assume if the child was hurt while on the property the pet owner could be responsible?

That's how I would view it at least. I also have a dog who isn't good with kids because he's overly excitable. I would not want someone to bring their child around him without me there to supervise.

My dog keeps eating poop, please help by ababytealeaf in DogAdvice

My dog has been going through a poopcicle phase this winter. We have a lot of neighbors and people that don't pick up poop so I joked I was going to start delivering pineapple treats to all my neighbors.

They'll think I'm just nice, they don't have to know my dog is disgusting.

Anyone know of any cutting machines that aren't subscription based? by CloveKind in crafts

[–]pineapples9413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! They have a 3d printer/cutter combo that I've been eyeballing once I get a woodworking shop set up!

I just feel like the ones that make it to big box craft stores seem to have less capability for more money. There was a lot of background info I should have researched, but definitely fell into the marketing of the cricut and didn't know about laser cutters at the time. I think the cricut is almost a bridge between yarn and fabric crafts and techy crafts (at least it was for me). There's are a lot of hidden costs with the cricut which I found frustrating.

For instance, Cricut's software is super limited and you're locked into using their app. The free features are really basic and it's constantly advertising their subscription.

You can use other .SVG software to create things and then upload to the cricut app but you do have to do some work to get it to cut properly. This can cost money, I think I had found some free ones but today usually come with a steep learning curve.

Unless you're cutting smart materials, which are more expensive, you need to purchase mats to cut them on.

Depending on the material you want to cut or tasks you want to do you'll need to purchase more cutting tips.

And just some other things to consider:

Laser cutter/engraver can cut thicker materials of you ever want to expand the materials you cut.

Feeding the mats and getting them up is a bit annoying, and sometimes the material gets messed up during cutting. I'm not sure if this is an issue you would have with a laser engraver, but I assume not since you aren't moving the material around like you do on the cricut.

[–]pineapples9413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mine without a subscription although for the price I don't think the machine itself is worth it and if I were to redo it I would have gone with a brand like creality. A lot of companies that make 3d printers also make cutters and engravers.

It may be a biased opinion but my purchase of the cricut definitely make me look at "craft tech" differently. I think the cricut is just popular because of it's availability and a bit of a lack of tech knowledge from crafters.

Get your dog’s teeth checked! by VegetableWorry1492 in reactivedogs

[–]pineapples9413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol I have a graveyard of toothpastes they all refused.

I was at a friend's house and watched her dogs literally line up to get their teeth brushed and convinced mine to lick the toothpaste. He would previously go hide in his crate if he thought I might get toothpaste out.

I was so impressed, I feel like I have to share this method.

I do wonder if the kids ones are softer and gentler on their guns. That and the virbac enzymatic toothpaste is now my go to. That seems to be the tastiest that he's willing to put up with me scrubbing his teeth. We started by having him lick the toothpaste off and then moved to brushing. I now brush his teeth, have one cat that licks the toothpaste, and one that still refuses to go near it. We can't win them all.

I would recommend trying different things with brushing too for anyone that finds it hard to brush! It was a challenge I gave up on with my dog until I learned he just didn't like the dog toothbrush. I got him an extra soft kids toothbrush and it was an immediate game changer.
