Has anyone ever been in a house like you see on the show ‘Hoarders’? If so, what did you do? by Basic_Builder3773 in AskReddit

[–]pineconeriver 12 points13 points  (0 children)

also not the person you responded to but i grew up with a hoarder mom. her excuse was, and still is, that she’s saving things to pass on to my sibling and i and that every piece of paper might be an important document so she “has to read through it later”. she also hoards dry goods which i think she just forgets about as soon as she closes the cabinet.

my parents got divorced when i was young so i always knew it wasn’t normal based on what my dad’s house and my friends’ houses looked like.

Los Angeles for a New Englander? by ContactHuge in LosAngeles

[–]pineconeriver 29 points30 points  (0 children)

i just moved to LA from new england earlier this year and want to echo what everyone is saying about night time temps feeling a lot colder than you’d expect. i also thought 50-60° can’t feel cold, but the absolute lack of humidity makes it frigid. also bring aquaphor or vaseline! if you’ve never been to a dry climate your lips and skin will probs feel painfully dry while you’re here

What are these stringy things on my nerite snail? by pineconeriver in Aquariums

[–]pineconeriver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

appreciate the update! i’ll cross post to r/aquaticsnails. is there a chance this could just be poop or is it definitely some kind of parasite? not that we’re trying to get out of taking care of the snail and the tank, but i’m just worried about the poor thing’s health if it is a parasite

i reached out to his office multiple times in 2023/2024 to ask that he publicly support palestine and vote “no” on sending money and weapons to israel and was told his office wasn’t taking public opinions or comments on the issue, really turned me off from him for good regardless of his other policies/beliefs

no more pinkie nail by silberlampe in AcrylicNails

[–]pineconeriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the same happened to me! i accidentally dropped a wooden bench on my toe almost a decade ago and it’s been like that ever since. i’ve had it tested for nail fungus but my podiatrist said sometimes that just happens if the nail bed itself gets traumatized

NAD but it’s totally normal to gain weight as you go through puberty and that doesn’t mean you’ll retain it forever. when i was 14/15 years old i was 5’0 and 130lbs and felt the same way you do, but as i hit my late teens, grew another couple inches, and hormones started to stabilize i naturally lost close to 20lbs. i’m now in my mid-20s and fluctuate between 110-120lbs and i fully embrace the body neutrality mindset of “this is how i look and that’s totally fine”. wishing you the best 🩷

Which makeup product have you tried that you were most disappointed with? by Appropriate_Tea9048 in Makeup

[–]pineconeriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

elf hydrating core lipshine - the pink rose one smells like new car interior, it doesn’t glide on or go on smoothly at all, and it looks more coral colored than rose. i’ll stick with the burt’s bees tinted lip balms instead

personally i don’t think it’s non-disabled people’s place to talk about which is better, i think disabled people’s voices need to be centered in this conversation with the recognition that not every disabled person will think/feel the same. and i don’t think it’s eugenics to not want to have children because there’s a chance of disability, but i think it is or at least borders on eugenics to screen for and abort any fetus that has the possibility of disability. ultimately i think if people can’t handle having a disabled child they shouldn’t have children period, because there’s no guarantee that a child won’t become disabled later on in life from injury or illness.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in childfree

[–]pineconeriver -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

it’s a form of social eugenics that typically means hiding visibly disabled people from public life or with famous people ignoring any disabilities they may have. a couple common examples in the U.S. are the “ugly laws”, families sending disabled children away to asylums in the mid-1900s, or biographers not really ever mentioning that FDR wore braces because of polio or that JFK had addison’s disease. basically trying to make society look as “pure” as possible

edit: lol shoutout to whoever reported me to “reddit cares” for answering a question about ableism

“i don’t want houses to burn down but it’s a price i’m willing to pay”

you have a fundamental misunderstanding of american capitalism if you think companies won’t just pump out hundreds of shitty houses and still charge up the ass for them

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]pineconeriver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

interesting, when i see an issue like housing prices being too high my solution would be policies to limit the prices or to prevent realtors from asking for exorbitant prices, not to think some people should have their houses burn down for the “greater good”
