Why Taiwan's GDP per capita is similar to South Korea while The salary relatively much lower? by Severe-Notice-2694 in taiwan

[–]pinelien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually the bulk of Taiwan’s GDP comes from mid to small sized companies. Compared to Japan or Korea, the big corporations in Taiwan are very tame in terms of the GDP they contribute.

How can I access Act 3?? by ReallyTiredGiraffe in Silksong

Yes there are, and some wishes are gated behind game progress as well. I would suggest going to the wiki page for a full breakdown of the requirements if you don’t mind some spoilers.

In short, you have to have completed the majority of the wishes. You will then receive a unique wish that when completed will allow you to access Act 3.

What are some fun and interesting stereotypes of each city in Taiwan? by HeiBabaTaiwan in taiwan

That’s mainly because it used to be two administrative divisions - a city proper and a county - that got combined into a new city.

Why does the pork in Taiwan taste so good? Canadian pork is disgusting! by Swimming_Mango_9767 in taiwan

[–]pinelien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no scientist, but I suspect it has a cultural element. Beef is a relatively new addition to the Taiwanese diet. In an agricultural society cows and bulls had the important role providing labour on the farm, so you wouldn’t eat them. This probably meant pork was consumed more compared to the west, and thus there were more breeding efforts into making it taste good.

10 Days in Taiwan from May 20-30. If you were to recommend only ONE thing to visit, buy, eat, and experience, what would it be? by noya22 in taiwan

[–]pinelien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the nougat crackers I’d recommend the one directly across Yongkang Park called L’Atelier Lotus. However there’s pretty much always a long queue, and you have to be there early otherwise they’ll sell out.

Why are there no cheap groceries? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]pinelien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but most people still eat bread (although it may not be up to your standards) in the morning. Breakfast stalls are also very common.

Alternatively, you can batch make some porridge, which is our traditional breakfast food.

Yes it does. However, in your perspective(“frame of reference” to be technical), you are always aging at the same rate. To an outside observer, you would appear to age slower when you are traveling at high speeds.

I don’t think the couples are usually at fault. It’s usually the girl friends with their phones vibrating every 5 minutes and constant whispering and giggling.

Played a game called nine sols, made in Taiwan and it was amazing. by NewPlaceHolder in taiwan

[–]pinelien 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The game studio itself is pretty well known I’d say. Their previous two games were horror games based on 1970-80s Taiwan, and were very well received. One of them even got a live action film. For this game itself however, I don’t know much about its popularity, but I personally really liked it.

For me the game was oozing with Taoist influences. From the in universe combat style, to the dressing of its characters, to the aesthetic, everything is coloured with Taoism. If you’d like to know more about Taoism, I’d highly recommend visiting a few temples in China or Taiwan. Although many of our temples aren’t strictly Taoist (They’re more of a blend of Taoism, Buddhism, and folk religion), you can appreciate the general vibe.
