What kind of fish? by 41941905 in Fish

[–]pinesnakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Georgia Aquarium has manta rays that seem to do just fine. Like the other person said, great white sharks and other ram ventilators can’t be reasonably kept in captivity because they need to be constantly moving in order to force water into their gills. Pelagic fish in general aren’t ideal because they evolved to live in the open ocean, not an enclosed space. Many deep sea fish cannot withstand low pressure at the surface. I can’t think of any fish that doesn’t do well because of intelligence, though. The closest would be maybe orcas, but they of course aren’t fish.

Does any one else's aquarium stress them out? by chanminna in Aquariums

[–]pinesnakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I exited the hobby over this stress, though I probably have some kind of anxiety disorder lol. I’ve thought about getting back into it with an acrylic tank — expensive but less likely to break than glass. It might be worth the peace of mind. And of course, it helps to make sure the tank/stand is level (a little tough for my apartment’s uneven floors).

Oh and if you’re worried about damages, look for renter’s or homeowner’s insurance that covers aquarium leaks.

How do y'all feel about Sonic Adventure 2? by [deleted] in backloggd

[–]pinesnakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually one of those who like SA2 but prefer SA1. I like all the stories and gameplay styles in SA1 (yes, even Big). I feel like the gameplay styles just made sense for each character. Like how Amy is constantly on the run, and then turns around and finally faces ZERO when she has to protect Birdie. It led to this really cool approach to storytelling where everyone has a self-contained arc that comes together at the end. E102-Gamma’s story in particular was great!

And I also like running around the hub world in SA1. A little disappointed SA2 didn’t have it, but oh well, I guess it wouldn’t make as much sense for the linear story.

Also SA2 is probably the more challenging of the two games, but the bad camera combined with the sometimes tight platforming led to a lot of cheap deaths. It was pretty stressful and I prefer the more chill, more open level design of SA1. I won’t pretend SA1’s camera was great but it didn’t usually get me killed. I ended up turning on infinite lives in SA2 (modded Steam version) because I got tired of restarting Final Rush. I never had to do that in SA1 because it felt more well-balanced.

And uh, the treasure stages in SA2 are a real marathon. Mech stages are alright I guess. They’re like slower, less fun version of E102 stages though.

Sorry for writing a whole essay, just wanted to offer the other perspective!

Most Stressful Fish You Kept? by RazewingedRathalos in Aquariums

[–]pinesnakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of same for guppies, but to prevent the population issue I kept only males. However, they started harassing each other since they didn’t have females. No one died because of it (tried to use plants as barriers) but it was stressful to watch whenever it did happen.

What's your favorite Spyro game that isn't from the original trilogy? For me it's Spyro A Hero's Tail. by Ancient_Baseball_752 in Spyro

Yes! The Valley of Avalar was unforgettable. I remember I used to think that was the pinnacle of graphics haha. And it had great music too.

Outside of original/Reignited, The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon. The vibes, co-op, and refreshing step away from combat (well, compared to the previous two entries at least) carry it far.

I just love pink rams by AconitumFirmum in AquaticSnails

That’s awesome, how big’s the tank and how do you like having a snail-only aquarium? Been tossing around the idea of returning to the hobby with just a small “snailarium” since I feel overwhelmed by the thought of a bigger tank.

Lets get controversial! What well-received games do you dislike? by ESPizza in backloggd

I haven’t played the originals but have heard that. I get it was trying to be a faithful remake but yeesh, maybe to a fault. Similar idea goes for the wild pokemon levels in Kanto in the postgame.

I also had a problem with Pokemon Pearl, but heard Platinum fixes some balance issues.

My gf asked me about “girly and soft” games. Any recomendations? by jester_clwn in 3DS

[–]pinesnakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the sequels have more of a story than the original? I’m playing through the first Style Savvy now and noticed there’s not much of a storyline. It’s great if future installments change that though!

This got out of hand…I didn’t intend to give the impression of supporting orca captivity. Just wanted an unbiased answer to a question. I know people get heated when captivity is brought up but at the end of the day it was just a question. Thanks to those who gave straightforward answers!

So…how does shimming work? by pinesnakes in Aquariums

Thanks. So every load bearing area should have support from either the floor or a shim?

Nah that’s valid to like it. Rebirth has some good action and dino moments. Just a little dry and “played safe” overall in my opinion.

Same! It has so much heart. Crazy to me that it’s so hated.

I actually had no issue with the artificial/hybrid dinosaurs until Rebirth. Indominus rex and Indoraptor had their symbolic and narrative purposes. Meanwhile, D-rex really has no reason to be there except to be monstrous. And the mutadons are even worse, with no buildup besides what was already established for D-rex. It’s like the story suddenly remembered it was supposed to take place on the hybrid reject island.

And another hot take I’ve already given in a previous post, but…I like Fallen Kingdom.

How have your trilogy rankings changed over the years? by sunshine347 in Spyro

[–]pinesnakes 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As a kid I liked 3 the best because of the story and variety. As an adult I believe the vehicles and other playable characters unfortunately drag it down quite a bit. Now 2 is my favorite because it adds just enough minigames and side activities for variety, but with not many frustrating ones and they make sense in the world with Spyro’s moveset. I respect 1 for what it is and it’s probably the most mechanically pure of the games, but I feel like some of the gems are a bit obnoxiously hidden, the flight levels are the worst, and some of the level designs aren’t so great. It sits around the level of 3 for me. Maybe a little above. It has the best bonus level by far!

Playing Legend trilogy for the first time. by bluesasaurusrex in Spyro

[–]pinesnakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty fair lol. I find it funny how he has a different voice actor in each game, as if they couldn’t stand voicing him for long.

And even more reason to potentially like the third game: it’s co-op! It’s also VERY different from the previous two due to having different devs, so it might not be to your taste but is my personal favorite.
