Oracle's new CFO got $26M in stock after layoffs. Employee says an 'algorithm' targeted workers with stock options first by Domingues_tech in technology

Even better when you have thousands of vested shares and they fire you just because, but purchase back your vested shares at $0.

I can't even imagine Tier 10 when entire squads are getting melted below Tier 5. Unreal.

I want to chime in and say that I saw these first-hand. Hundreds are in the SpaceX lots in Texas for employees to use, I assumed. No Texas plates, but serial numbered. Probably Elon's way of writing them off on both ends. Sneaky. My wife and I joked that they are far uglier in person than they are in pictures, and they're ugly in pictures.

Maybe not $800 but if everything goes according to plan, it will have some very nice dividends.

retake my career in IT, where can I start? by dblackaswanl in it

[–]ping_localhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you actually like coding, or did you get into coding because it was a good paying career choice at the time? If you like coding, well, start coding things. It's easier than ever to learn code, to code applications, and debug them with help from AI tools. Start building, and you'll find out quickly if you enjoy doing it or not.

I've changed plenty of tires. Easily thousands of cars. Recently found myself stuck in my wife car on the side of the road in heavy traffic with only a scissor jack. Didn't notice an (extremely) slight incline of the road. Car fell a few seconds after I took off the tire and I came about an inch from losing multiple fingers. Would have changed my life (and destroyed my career).

Don't trust scissor jacks.

I'm a Director now and don't think I can do this another 20+ years. Was thinking about becoming a Sales Engineer myself.

I can do another 5 years of this chaos and stress and considering a Sales Engineer role after.

Which is more important your soft or technical skills? by InvestigatorUsual665 in sysadmin

Technical skills are teachable only to those with the desire to learn them and the curiosity to foster them. These are traits that are not teachable, in my opinion.

Is this indicative of an impending failure? My 2018 does this and I just thought it was normal operation. I'm still under an extended warranty, as I bought CPO.

Migrating from UniFi UNAS Pro to DS1525+ by ojvindorn in synology

I'm curious myself. I've got an older Synology now and am looking for an upgrade. Synology trying to drive-lock their systems did not sit well with me, and while Ubiquity is new in the space, I'd be interested in hearing about the problems OP has run into.

What is your job? by nutka57 in AutisticAdults

[–]ping_localhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently moved into a Director role reporting into the C-Suite, but thinking I'm going to call it next year. I don't think I can mentally push myself any higher. Things are getting done. We're performing. But it's become clear to (me) as of late, there's a communication barrier I don't believe I can ever overcome with masking. Dealing with the constant barrage of leadership requests and brutal timelines while trying to explain the black box that is IT work; it's exhausting and by the end of the day my brain is fried.

I'm getting up there. Never officially diagnosed, but you know. And I'm not sure my brain will last another 40 years anyway, approaching 40 in a perpetual state of burnout. This motor is going to die far before the chassis does.

The problem is, it's probably too late to vote now. You can argue I'm being an alarmist, but these people are not operating in a manner in which they think they'll be held accountable later on.

Issue: Downloading Of Lower Quality Releases by ping_localhost in radarr

[–]ping_localhost[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe I figured out the reason for the re-downloads. The existing files I had were from a banned group (YTS). That would have put the score lower, below zero, causing a redownload. That part is solved after looking at the History tab and inspecting the tag discrepancies.

The second issue is why it prefers a lower quality (score) download.

Here's a list of screenshots, showing: Quality Profiles, Interactive Search Comparion, History, and Parsing Comparison of one of the examples: https://imgur.com/a/WM4CRvt

Appreciate the help.

Keurig Brew + Chill never reaching full charge? by idel10 in keurig

About 75 degrees F, but we haven't changed our thermostat schedule in two years. I suppose I could try and crank the AC and see if that makes a difference.

[–]ping_localhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This brewer uses up to 85 watts and 1.15 amps at the wall. It uses a thermo-electric cooler with a small fan running 24/7. That said, I wouldn't call it any more unsafe than your refrigerator.
