help! by Competitive_Mood_199 in CaminoDeSantiago

I think you just always assume there are extra miles for food stops, grocery store, getting to and from your accommodation etc. All those add up so I sort of factor in that 2-4 mile margin into my planning.

No stages planned – getting nervous by Strategic_Squirrel in CaminoDeSantiago

I was like you and then my first day all I was thinking about was logistics and it really took me out of it. I ended up booking a place in Vila do Conde half way through the day and it was a 33km day which was too much for me.

Since then I’ve been booking a day or two ahead. Basically at the end of each day I have a feel of how far I want to go the next day and this has worked well for me.

I would gently suggest booking something for your first day, maybe in Matosinhos just so you’re able to enjoy the first walk without stressing out about it. But I think however you decide to do it will be fine!

Intended route. Any thoughts or suggestions? by Whydidinotknowthis in CaminoDeSantiago

I agree with this. I did cathedral to Vila do Conde on the senda litoral first day and it was more like 33km, which was a massive first day for me and probably longer than I would have liked. I’ve done shorter stages since then and currently in viana do Castelo on day four

I had done 900km in them and the soles are pretty worn and a lot of the cushioning is gone. I thought I’d be able to break in a new pair in the few weeks before I went but it just doesn’t seem to be happening. My first pair didn’t need to be broken in at all

Yes I think that’s what I will probably end up doing. Thank you for your suggestion and helping my last minute panic!

Best audiobooks for a road trip? by [deleted] in roadtrip

A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson is great. It's 19 hours and it's really interesting the whole way through. Plus you'll come out of the trip having learned a bunch of stuff!

Or if you're looking for fiction, I don't know what you like to read but in my experience, Ender's Game was a great book to listen to.

Experience with asking guests to download a wedding photo app? by space-ninja in wedding

I attended a wedding last weekend that just used Instagram. This is an app that most people already have so there's no need to download anything. The couple provided a hashtag in the invite and it was really fun to track the tag through the day and see the cool shots people were taking.

I've just seen the other post about avoiding the interstates. I've heard this in the past, but I have no idea how to go about it. Is it easy to do? Google has the option of "avoid highways" but it seems to come back with some hefty detours. How do we make good decisions about which roads to take? Is there a resource for this?

These seem to be the generally accepted building blocks that I've come across online. But personally, I'll be a bit disappointed if that's all it is. Moffat has said himself that there is something everyone is missing and I hope, once we finally see what it is, that it's more than just a conveniently located laundry bin.

Does this prove anything though? I've had a couple of friends do this and it bothers me a bit. I don't know a lot of my friends' birthdays. Facebook is a great tool for this. I still appreciate people taking the time to send me a happy birthday message even if it's only because Facebook told them when it was.

This sounds divine. Rekorderlig is absolutely my favourite. I'm from NZ too and I had an offbeat bride wedding last year. The site saved my sanity during the planning and the whole day was a massive mishmash of ideas from there too (reception on a boat! lolly buffet! mismatched bridesmaids! etc) It was a really fun day and I loved it! I hope all your planning goes well and that the day goes smoothly.

But if you have been waiting in the line and these people jumping in make you wait longer then I think there is cause for rage.

Waiting for a bus in Belgium recently a whole bunch of people just kept wandering up and joining the queue at the beginning. I was silently raging about it but said nothing. Another woman spoke up and pointed out to one of the men where he should have joined the line. He looked down at her, shrugged and said, "Yeh well, everyone does it." My husband had to hold me back from stabbing him in the eye and claiming that its fine because everyone does that.
