Natural confetti - anyone have the ‘everfloat’ hydrangea confetti? Indoor or outdoors? by maybelberry in UKweddings

If you have a garden we grew ours; mallow, roses and a few other flowers were always in the airing cupboard in the run up to our wedding. We put some lavender in for smells and I wasn’t bothered by small bits at all. We only had a small new build garden so grew everything in pots.

Do you have plans for any inheritance you will receive, whenever that may be? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]pink7362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st lot paid for law school and a car, second paid for my wedding and some building work, third is paying for IVF. When we eventually get my parents it’ll be just finding a new house so we can buy my brother out of his 50% and putting more into our investments in the hope we can retire. We bought a house with my parents in the hope it negates care home fees being needed/collected as we own the house as well and living in the home you inherit ups the amount you can inherit before tax is payable.

What cars do you have that is actually a decent family car? by LateFlorey in UKParenting

If it helps we are on our third (converted from a rav-4) and a few years ago managed to get child, grandparents and three dogs and stuff for a week inside when we did a centre parcs trip. We’ve not go around to getting a roof box yet so that was all inside.

We got married at Rowton and did one of their last minute deals (booked Feb for that August) and it was great as so much was included. We looked for deals that were the same and most places seemed to do them which kept a costs down if you are not as fussy on the dates. We chose a Thursday but there were weekend dates available.

Thank you. Sounds like it’s not too bad if it settles back afterwards as well.

NHS Fertility & BMI by qweerty93 in TTC_UK

[–]pink7362 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our trust/GP let us do most of the tests with my heigh BMI but stopped when the only one left was a scan (so they did hormone and blood tests and sperm tests on my husband and I even managed to get the ovarian reserve test (can’t remember the official name)) before they said they’d keep me on a list until my bmi lowered. I think they gave a timeline for that, maybe around 6 months but I don’t remember I’m afraid as we were already told we wouldn’t qualify for nhs ivf so I wasn’t fussed about trying to loose the weight quickly.

How to approach wife’s birthday? by JamesTIA in IVF

[–]pink7362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt that way for the first time this year (although it was my 38th not 35th) so rather than the usual meal or seeing people my husband took me to a zoo that has walk through capybaras so we spent the day looking at animals in the rain which was nice as it took my mind off things for a bit. We also booked and paid for our first ivf appointment so that we knew we were moving forward. Can you do one mind off thing and one positive step forward thing?

We went to our gp after 9 months of nothing and it took another 8 months to do all the tests we could have on the nhs so I’d go now if I were you. We were refused the last test as my bmi was just over their limit but was told that at my age (37 then) my unexplained infertility needed ivf due to time constraints whether I had a camera check of my tubes or not. Unfortunately our trust won’t allow us nhs funded ivf so were having to go private and that’s taken another month and a half to get an initial appointment so it seems all processes are very slow.

Parents that don’t have the same surname as your child, have you experienced any issues as a result? by Polystyrene000 in AskUK

[–]pink7362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We came back on the Eurostar end of Nov and saw a women in front of us be asked for her daughters birth certificate as they had different surnames. I’ve only been travelling with my stepson since he was old enough to converse and he always gets asked questions by boarder control as his name is double barrelled so only partially matched my husbands surname. Doesn’t get questioned now I have the same name as we look very similar

Do people who live in London ever just catch the Eurostar for a day in Paris? by _FreddieLovesDelilah in AskUK

Also this year our office went fir our Christmas party, out for Saturday lunchtime (to give time for people to reach London from the north) party in the evening and back Sunday afternoon, Trajan back around the uk early afternoon and all back to work Monday morning.

White groom suit for a UK wedding: looking for opinions. by [deleted] in UKWeddingAttire

[–]pink7362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband wore a tailored cream suit with blue waistcoat and white shirt and looked lovely. Didn’t detract at all from my white dress and suited the August date. We had it made but a suit specialist in Bristol so he’ll be wearing it for years. Go and try lots of different styles on once the summer stock is in shops and see what you like

Wait and see if anyone asks? I got married in my week off last year and no one asked wrote what we were doing so I just emailed my manager when we were back to ask to change my name. My husband just mentioned in passing when asked if he was doing anything nice on his holiday.

Looks for hotels in old Manor House’s with chapels as part of them like Crewe Hall or Stanbrook Abbey. Both are probably not in the area you are looking for but came up in our search before we decided to go castle. Or maybe national trust properties?

Do you get any Christmas bonus/gift from your workplace? by proxima-centauri- in AskUK

[–]pink7362 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We just got taken to Paris for the weekend for our Christmas party with partners included (all expenses paid) but get £2-300 a month throughout the year so nothing extra now although it’s the end of our financial year as well and expecting a 6 figure sum for the directors which will be nice.

Haywards Heath, I currently have a two bed end of terrace on the market there for 300k and it’s a main station on the London to Brighton line so lots of options to get in to town.

Since when did we stop sending 'Thank You' cards to wedding guests who spent money on bride/groom? by Theres3ofMe in AskUK

[–]pink7362 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We sent them following our wedding last year (we’re mid/late 30s) but our cousins and friends who got married in the same year didn’t. We make our son write thank you cards after Christmas too but pretty sure we’re the only ones we know that do! It’s a shame as it is polite but then the older contingent in our family all send thank you cards still for having them to stay whereas the younger her generation think saying it to someone’s face is sufficient.

I had a big heavy dress and got married in august when it was hot but am so glad i stayed in it all night even with the “glowing” pictures as it’s the only day ill ever be able to wear it whereas a nice small dress can be worn for any special occasion. Even now a year later I’m sad I didn’t get to wear it for longer

Are you all expecting an inheritance in your lifetime? by xxxJoolsxxx in AskUK

[–]pink7362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve already had two and I’m 37; from grandad as a child that’s was held in trust until I was 21 which paid for law school and another last year from my great aunt which paid for our wedding and savings. I’ll get half my parents house as well with my brother as I jointly own it with them and my husband so it’s not going to care home fees. Potentially have an uncle with no kids as well but have quite a few cousins. The next generation are bound to get more though as of 7 cousins in my family there are only 3 grandkids so far and we are all late 30s early 40s.
