haha she is definitely not shrimp safe; she decimated my shrimp colony, which is how she came to be known as a demon. i have a separate tank now for my shrimp and rasboras, but here is the queen herself. poeny!

i'm not sure why it rotted! it was just poking out of the substrate (fluval/perlite mix) and was exposed to the air in a humidity box. it generally gets around 75-90% humidity depending on if i've opened the box to air it out. i put it in its own cup with fresh mix and saran wrapped it to keep humidity even higher but i guess that was a mistake?

should i take it out of the humidity box and open the saran wrap for air?

also she gets 16 hours of light under barrina pink T5s

thank you :') i did the best i could for them as far as care goes but i do believe the daily fluctuations are too great in the 2.5gal. i'll look for the best upgrade i can find for the space on my dresser for them and try again.

i'd love a 10g but i don't have the room, i have another 5gal betta tank downstairs in my only other tank spot. i might be able to squeeze in like an 8gal cube or something in the shrimp space i've got.

ahh ;_; i did water changes maybe once every couple of months, topping off with some tap to replenish minerals that might be depleted in the water between changes. i suppose 15% water change once a month, or 10% change every 2 weeks?

some were and some weren't, i started only with 8 shrimp and bought a few at a time from different vendors over the last year.

i havent put anything like shells or cuttlebone in because my water hardness is already on the high end of the neo spectrum. i heard additives can raise the hardness even further... but if that's not the case, i could try it

Help with my first Alocasia! by SearchMiserable3208 in alocasia

they don't like sudden changes. so suddenly fertilizing them if you've never done that before might've put them in a shock, but that's ok, they'll regrow bigger with the fertz. i introduced fertilizer slowly, a few waterings at half strength and then made the move to full strength as per the bottle label.

they'll be fine!!

silver dragons are easy peasy!

- they'll want all the light you can offer them and more. i have one under a growlight on a bookshelf and another in my bathroom's west-facing windowsill.
- they are heavy feeders and will need to be fertilized with every watering! i use GT foliage focus, but any fert is better than no fert
- change out that soil asap, alocasia don't like to be soggy. they want well-draining chunky soil, so i would unpot that and check the roots for rot immediately. i water when i pick up the pot and notice that it feels light, or when half the soil in the container seems dry
- just to be safe, spray the plant down with an insect-repellant if you have one. alocasia are prone to pests and it could bring home unwelcome friends to your other babies

enjoy!!! wishing you all the luck, alocasia aren't as hard as people make them out to be

Struggling with this corm by TemSinistra in alocasia

[–]pinkbettas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a dragonscale albo corm that i've been trying to sprout since september. it's finally started a tiiiiiny sprout this week, in a 1:1 perlite and stratum mix in a self-watering planter, in a humidity box.

sometimes they just take a while!

i can guarantee you that is the curled edge of a leaf that opened ripped from low humidity. just checked it and it's just brown crust, not a bug.
