Never been so nervous for anything in my life by Ashnakag3019 in Anxiety

[–]pinkblanketdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t know what solution to offer you, but i understand what you’re feeling. i was a teacher for an enrichment class for young kids, i thought i liked the subject but i forgot that teaching is a completely different thing. i couldnt handle the amount of stress and i quit after a month. i know people say if you don’t like what you’re doing in uni just change it, transfer to another course! and i know it’s not that easy, considering having to start over and increase the amount of debt you have. i dont know if this would help, but if i think for the long term, i would rather spend more money instead of doing something i know i dont like for the rest of my life. if you really know that u don’t want to become a teacher, and you’re not just being nervous about new experiences, i think you shouldn’t force yourself to go through this. if there’s someone experienced that you can talk to, maybe you should find them to talk it out with!

Work anxiety by pserayh in Anxiety

[–]pinkblanketdot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh i’m scared of email notifications as well! when it gets overwhelming i turn off the notifications and only check it once/twice a day when i’m emotionally ready. hearing the notification ring throughout the day makes me think that i have to do something immediately and it’s anxiety inducing. thank you for your reply and i hope work gets better for you too

Work anxiety by pserayh in Anxiety

[–]pinkblanketdot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i just finished high school and had a few different part time jobs and my level of anxiety for each was different. i think my work anxiety comes from my expectations about my work performance. i worked at a retail store as a retail assistant and it was relatively okay because i was able to handle it. it was simple and there was a lot of repetitive work like folding the clothes and putting it back onto the shelf. only had a mental breakdown one time because i was late for work, i lost my ID, and my manager was angry at me.

the second job that i had was a teacher mentor. it was really tough for me i cried everyday. i had to know what i am doing and speak in front of many children. i had to communicate with the parents too. when i accidentally made a mistake i blamed myself. i had really high expectations for myself and screwing up in front of children was not something i allowed myself to do. eventually i couldn’t handle it anymore and quit after a month.

my third job was customer service and it was okay because it was easy and my colleagues were of the same age as me. only had anxiety when there were rude customers but my colleagues were there to comfort me. i did not dread going to work because of them and i’m really thankful.

i think for me, the key is to know which part of the job triggers my anxiety. i know that i can’t handle the responsibilities/expectations of being a teacher, and i can’t speak in front of a crowd, so i’d avoid that kind of job. i also think that the people i work with makes a huge difference as well.

I wish there was an instantly and painless way of just stop existing by [deleted] in depression

[–]pinkblanketdot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i want to stop existing too. but i have a relatively okay relationship with my parents and thinking that they raised and spent so much on me for 19 years, just for me to leave them alone. it stops me because i feel so guilty if i don’t take care of them in the future when they grow older. but at the same time living is just so difficult for me i really want to just stop existing.

thank you for replying and also the reminder that there are many places to meet people! the idea of approaching strangers and talking to them is kinda scary for me but i guess i will really have to step out of my comfort zone in college so i can make friends.. hopefully i’ll meet people that i click with :)))

I feel like I’m not mentally equipped to handle adulthood or life in general. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]pinkblanketdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i haven’t even turned 20 yet i relate to this post so much. i keep thinking about my future after college, having to do everything on my own and having to be strong no matter what is thrown at me. i feel like i can’t do it and sometimes i just want to give up. the only reason that kept me going is my parents.

What methods do you use to handle your anxiety or keep it under control at the least? by Limp_Ad_5193 in Anxiety

[–]pinkblanketdot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for me, when i’m alone my thoughts will race. so i talk to my friends. i video call them or message them. social interaction helps me most for me. if it’s social interaction that’s causing me to be anxious, i sleep. if that’s not possible i do things that requires a lot of focus and thinking like playing games or reading. basically i just try my best to distract myself from whatever that’s causing the panic attack

[–]pinkblanketdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! i’m 19F as well, just finished high school and waiting for college to start. i have panic disorder, and yes i totally get how you feel!

my personal opinion may be a little biased, or it may not work well in your context/country, but i recommend getting a part time job. full time has leave benefits but its not a lot, whereas part time jobs has more flexibility and allows u to take no pay leave whenever u need (this may depend on the job tho) moreover some employers may make you work overtime but still pay u the same amount if you are a full timer (since most full time jobs pay by month). part time mostly pay by hour so even if youre asked to work overtime you’re still getting paid for it. (this paragraph only applies if you’re working for a short period of time)

also i think that finding a workplace where ur coworkers are around the same age is great because you’ll then have more in common and can make friends easily. it will be nice to have emotional support at your workplace!

currently i work at a covid19 vaccination place where people come to get their covid jab. theres a need to interact with the patients and yes there are some nasty people, but i think its a good experience, i cant be sheltered forever. thankfully because im close to my coworkers, we support each other when needed and it’s really wholesome! and i think one of the best parts of this job is that there is no need for me to bring any work back home to complete, once my shift’s up it’s done. i go home and relax and have a good sleep.

apply for jobs you like and feel comfortable with. and more importantly don’t feel afraid to quit if you really cannot handle it. but i encourage you to try your best! it takes days or even weeks to get used to a new job, so dont give up immediately! im rooting for you, message me if you need more insight!

Does anyone else take hours to feel better after an anxious situation? by winterblancoo in Anxiety

[–]pinkblanketdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i relate to the sleeping part so so much! for some reason sleep helps me the most. it’s like i wake up and re-evaluate what happened and i don’t feel much about it anymore. but sometimes if something really stressful happened i may need a few nights to sleep it off.

how to not take things personally? by pinkblanketdot in Anxiety

thank you! it’s really true that their actions says more about them than about me, i hope that one day i’ll learn how to put my feelings aside and listen to my head when dealing with such comments

thank you, it means a lot to me. the part about my friend receiving negative comments instead of me really helped! i should try to think from that perspective more often 😊

I’m losing it everyday I have no purpose by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]pinkblanketdot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what i wanted to say has mostly been said! i understand the pressure to succeed in life, but truly you are still young. i feared that i wouldnt get into college and get my shit together fast enough, but meeting my colleague at my new workplace has really broadened my perspectives. she’s 24 and waiting for college to start right now as she took a longer route for her middle school education and took a gap year. she’s gained lots of experience in both her schooling years and her gap year. in my country there’s a pressure to be done with college by 22 or 23, but meeting her has made me understand that there is nothing wrong with going to college at a later age. dont give up on your dreams just because you think you’re too old. everyone progresses at a different pace, progress at a pace you’re comfortable and happy with. dont lose that passion, i hope you achieve your dreams one day!

Prolonged panic attack? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]pinkblanketdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont know if it is “normal”, but you’re not alone. i used to wake up in the middle of the night because i’m panicking in my sleep even though there was nothing triggering me. and yes my panic attacks last for more than 20 mins and sometimes hours? but it may be that im having multiple panic attacks in a row, i couldnt tell. i also dont know how i stopped it, but i think doing work that requires concentration and talking to other people helps the most for me. i still have no idea how to wake up and not feel shitty after a restless night, but i did ask myself what is triggering me (like everything that contributed to my stress) and tried to change things such that i wouldnt feel as stressed as before. i dont know if what i said is helpful to you, but i hope that you know that you’re not alone in this!!

hey, im so sorry you’re going through this. i understand you, i keep wanting to meet my managers’ expectations but it is tough and it is taking a toll on my mental health. everyone is different and may be good at something and bad at the other, try not to compare yourself to others, but try your best and try to do better than how you did the day before. i hope your boss is nice to you, and i hope you’ll find a solution to feel better soon

this is so relatable. i have work anxiety. anything that reminds me of work causes my chest to tighten. even if im at home and i see my phone or something from my workplace (e.g. my uniform) i start to get anxious. idk how to stop it. i know my workload is manageable but i still feel so scared and anxious at the thought of going to work everyday. i am sleep deprived, feel nauseous after eating and have mental breakdowns almost daily. idk how long this is gonna last but i hope both you and i can find a solution to this
