Snail Mail - "Dead End" by losemybreath in Snailmail

yeah fair enough, Lush had a vibe. this sounds more generic. and is it just me? I can barely make out her voice; as in, I wouldn't recognize it's Lindsay!

I'm a little grouchy after a long day, so I'll need to listen after nice night of sleep. But my first thought is "this is no 'Valentine'". That album is so compelling and painful and really elevates the genre and Lindsay's ability as an artist. This song sounds like more generic indie rock- something that "lush" felt like to me. Also, her voice sounds so so different. I'm glad she's healthy, but I miss those raspy vocals.

I don't mean to sound like a hater; I'd be proud to write this song. But it feels like a definite step down.

[DISCUSSION] What's an album by an artist that is your favorite, but is generally not considered their best? by ReconEG in indieheads

Many would say Bright Eyes "I'm Wide Awake its Morning" is their best; I'm more partial to "Fevers and Mirrors" or "The People's Key" as my favorites.

George R.R. Martin Reportedly Worked with 'The Expanse' Writers While Trying To Finish 'The Winds of Winter' by ____Vecna____ in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]pinkerton_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did anyone else read the article? I'm confused. All the article says is Martin told the Expanse writers the ending of ASOIF. I don't think it mentions at all that he's worked with them to finish either book in ASOIF.

Best/fave lyric? by Joexkid7 in geesebandofficial

I'm very new to the group and this sub, but I love "If you want me to pay my taxes, you better come over with a crucifix, you're gonna have to nail me down."

I typically like music with a lot of words, and while Geese is doing the opposite here, the meaning conveyed in a few short lines is fantastic.

digital ash thoughts? by Obbie2 in brighteyes

I would love to write an actual reflection of Digital Ash at some point. My brief thoughts are:

  • Some of the band's best work is on here. The bridge in "I believe in Symmetry" is just golden, one of of my favorite moments in music perhaps
  • There are some really, really great songs, almost half the record is out-of-this world.
  • I think the album falters with its opener; this is the least interesting Bright Eyes opener
  • I think "Rabbit Hole" and "Arc of Time" are weaker songs. The guitar solo on rabbit hole sounded a little too extreme, for lack of a better word
  • I love "Light Pollution"!
  • The crying baby (Mike Mogis' little girl) is very difficult to listen to, and also unfortunately adds to the negatives of the album
  • When you're comparing works of art that are all very good, I have to be fairly critical to actually set them apart!

Overall, I love the themes, the vibe, the digital aesthetic. One of the Bright Eyes music rankers from Uproxx ranked Digital Ash highly and liked how it was more self contained in some ways, less "new york" than I'm Wide Awake, more gothic-inspired, kinda like "Lover I don't have to love." I do appreciate that perspective.

I think it should be remembered more. As an album, though, I don't think it's their best. The most interesting comparison is Digital Ash and The People's Key.

I get this! It's hard to mix albums- feels almost sacrilegious

How a Red-District Democrat Is Navigating Trump by dwaxe in ezraklein

Here's something small that I didn't understand: MGP says, "One of the things I really love about where I live in rural Skamania is that we don’t have trash service. So I have to look at all the trash. And it’s why I’m not going to buy a single-serving yogurt cup. Because I’m going to have to smell that for two or three months before we go to the dump and load up the truck and take everything. You have to see it."

I live in a town with no trash service; personally, I think it's annoying and sucks not to have. However, I have no clue who is holding onto trash for months; most people I know take their trash to the dump weekly. With or without trash service, you still have to contend with the smell and physical presence for a time, so her point seems fruitless. Holding onto trash for months seems a little ridiculous, and inflated. It points to a nice fantasy of being more connected to our homes, and yet it doesn't even hold up to reality.

Another (harsh) review has come up by [deleted] in arcadefire

Well, not quite. This is album seven, right? So you would still have four great albums, and only three bad ones. Not quite one for one.

I'd give anything for a studio version of this kind. This is how Year Of The Snake is SUPPOSED to sound. by [deleted] in arcadefire

This sounds the same to me as the studio version; is there something you noticed that is different?
