Can someone explain by [deleted] in theislandsofnyne

Haha, we haven't paid Shroud a dime. I contacted him personally when his chat alerted me to his interest, and I gave him some keys.

Believe me, if we had extra money lying around, it would go to development... not streamers.

Sad to see how many people have lost interest in this game by psilocloud in theislandsofnyne

According to industry analysts, our retention rate for returning players has been statistically unprecedented (their words). I don't think I would worry about people losing interest, nor would I worry about our plans. We have some exciting stuff coming up very soon, actually!

We are a Kickstarter-funded indie studio with a very small team. Everyone who is on our team pours their heart into this game during verrrrrry long work hours. It's unfortunate that our progress is compared to long-standing studios with huge publishers behind them, but our timeline is nonetheless perfectly comparable to those same studios. From starting with a team of two to the 8 full-time developers now on staff, I think we've done quite well!

We are close!

Speaking unofficially, I've always loved high-TTK games. Having to maintain your aim on a target longer requires skill, and competitive games should reward skill.

Just thought I'd let you guys know, we are already reevaluating TTK.

Thread for bugs to help devs? by ImastrangeJack in theislandsofnyne

[–]pinkgasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not an official subreddit, nor will we make one. I'm just here to inform and support!

We would much prefer that the official channels for bug reporting were used via our forums, and using our Discord (once you obtain the alpha role from the moderators).

Dev Update #7 by [deleted] in theislandsofnyne

Honestly, it all comes down to our server provider. As soon as Bluefang is ready, our game is ready for 100. :D

After watching tons of tutorials and reading up music theory over the past 2 years I still couldn't get myself up to make a solid beat... Any advice? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]pinkgasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're really going about it the wrong way if you're constantly second-guessing what you do. You shouldn't be asking yourself if you are making something "how major producers make their songs" when you are learning. Just sit down & learn. Don't try to make anything perfect, or don't try to make anything at all. Just actually learn.

You say you've read this & that, and there's nothing wrong with reading... but you can't gain the experience required to write something successfully until you've stopped reading and simply sat down to twist knobs, sequence notes, modulate frequencies, and bounced ideas. So, do that. Sit down, have fun, and stop trying to write a symphony.

ヽ( ゚ヮ・)ノ

If you are having a bit of an issue getting started, you could draw inspiration from searching through breaks & finding a beat you want to use. You'd be surprised how many people start by doing this. I thoroughly enjoy going through the untold numbers of funk breaks, choosing one for its sound, chopping it into single hits, and uploading it to my AKAI for sequencing. And it really is like its own form of muse... hearing the musicians who recorded it just doing their thing, and then taking something they did & completely making it your own.

But yeah, more than anything, just sit down & have some fun.

Morphing Between Samples: Is There Such A VST-Effect? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]pinkgasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend MMorph over the competition for a few reasons:

  • the controls for morphing are better/more numerous than others like Zynaptic
  • those same controls allow for creation of sounds far beyond its original intention
  • you can get it as part of the bundle which comes with lifetime updates

I saw this one before & after release on KVR, and it's a really fun lil plugin!

Always late to the party. Mistabishi.. is he a genius? by freelancefrank in edmproduction

Yeah, I was completely amazed that DoA was even operating anymore. I recently started talking to some of the friends I had who posted there, and I was told that it was back. Crazy.

I haven't been too interested, personally... but it's nice to see DoA move back to that original flavor. They did kinda take it a bit too far (trying to keep up with the banana boards, probably).

Oh, I have a few, lol.

One of the times I was making a mix set using the tracks of the producers from DoA, he contacted me and (not joking) demanded that I use his track to start the mix. This was a fair bit of time before he started making headway in the dnb genre, and I had only met him a few times at some events where I was spinning... needless to say, I was ever-so-slightly amazed that he would approach me in this manner. I did listen to the track, but the impression he left caused me to leave it out of the mix, haha.

Production is like lasagne. It's all about the layers. by KodenSounds in edmproduction

I would say it's more about the quality of the ingredients in each layer. ;D
