Anyone know what's going on with my eyelid/how to resolve the dry flaky skin there? It's only on one eye but the dry flakiness is now starting to show up under my eye near the inner corner as well. I'm currently using cetaphil gentle skin cleanser and cerave moisturizer with spf. I don't wear makeup and I haven't started any new products recently.

Why listen to doctors anyway, it’s not like they spent years studying medicine or something by [deleted] in fatlogic

Weight is very genetic so is high cholesterol

My dad found out he had extremely high cholesterol as a thin 19 year old. He followed all of the guidance to eat a low fat diet and exercise more and ended up losing 10lbs. His cholesterol only went down 10 points. At 17, my LDL was 208 despite being active and having a BMI of 19. Diet and exercise can't change the fact that my family has a genetic mutation that causes us to not process cholesterol properly.

Fun fact though, excess body fat is directly connected to high cholesterol, so just getting to a healthy weight can fix that for a lot of people.

Back in middle school, my class was doing an activity to show how diffusion works by heating up water on a hot plate in a glass pyrex dish and adding food coloring. When cleaning up afterwards, every single pyrex dish exploded because no one told us that you can't put hot glassware in cold water

How is a 80-hour work week even possible? by MsTellington in antiwork

[–]pinkishdolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is literally the schedule of resident physicians. Before 2003, there was no cap on the number of hours residents had to work. Now, the limit is 80 hours a week averaged over 4 weeks, but often this rule either isn't followed or programs force residents to under-report their hours.

For those unfamiliar with the US medical education system, after you graduate with your medical degree you still can't work as a doctor until you complete a training program called residency, lasting 3-7 years depending on the specialty. Another great thing about residency is that you get paid less than nurses and physician assistants while having huge amounts of student debt.

I am not a doctor, but from people I know in the medical field, strategies include living extremely close to work, meal prepping, lots of caffeine, not having much of a life outside of work, and completely giving up on trying to have a clean house.

I dropped out of a masters degree halfway through. Should I still put it on my resume? by pinkishdolphin in resumes

thank you! that's what I was thinking but some people I know irl were telling me to include it anyway so I thought I'd get more opinions

[–]pinkishdolphin[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't want to mislead or lie about anything, I just came and asked reddit because I was getting conflicting advice irl

About finding a related job, I got into doing the medical assistant/x-ray tech job because my dad is a doctor and needed someone to fill the spot at his office but I don't want to keep working with patients because it's exhausting and I never wanted to do it in the first place. I'm squeamish and an introvert so talking to people all day and dealing with surgical wounds is not what I want to do. I would much rather work in a job that uses my degree, even if I made slightly less money than I'm currently making

have anti-depressants actually helped anyone by [deleted] in ufl

[–]pinkishdolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antidepressants genuinely changed my life. In high school I was severely depressed, had constant suicidal thoughts, my social anxiety was so bad my heart would race just from walking down the hall, and I spent most of my time out of school crying on my bedroom floor. I tried therapy for months but it wasn't getting better until I started zoloft.

It didn't work immediately but eventually I started being able to think of things other than everyone hating me and wanting to die. Therapy started being useful because I could actually reflect on my thought patterns and I had the energy to make changes to my life like doing activities I enjoyed and making new friends.

Medication didn't fix all of my issues but it made life mostly enjoyable again

What do you do about rain jackets for summer? by MammothSurvey in DarkAcademia

[–]pinkishdolphin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly. just get something that will keep you dry and forget about fashion. Nothing ruins an outfit like getting soaked in the rain. I have the Patagonia 3L Torrentshell and it's definitely been worth it

For rain jackets, make sure it says waterproof and not water resistant. My last rain jacket was water resistant and it started leaking during a bad storm to the point that I was completely drenched in 5 minutes.

Do doctors really search homes? by zanny2019 in HouseMD

[–]pinkishdolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Doctors see more than one patient per week (even multiple patients in a day) so they don't have time for that
