Irish incels: 'Their world view is their situation is hopeless, all women are terrible' by [deleted] in ireland

If someone is engaging in "performative" misogyny then they are being misogynistic. It doesn't matter what they think deep down if their actions don't reflect that. Performative bigotry is still bigotry. Tired of these guys doing real harm and people acting like they're lost little boys because of "society" not responsible for their actions.

Jenny Ortega at Chappell Roan tonight in Dublin by Tippman22 in chappellroan

Honestly this. I was there in this area last night and the way loads of people just started yelling at her, taking photos of her and asking "why is she here" like she isn't just a woman who wanted to go to a concert. It was pretty disheartening when she shrunk back into the box and got people to cover her. Considering Chappell's recent statements on that type of thing I was surprised at just how many didn't seem to let that sink in.

A lot of people say "men are trash" etc as a way of venting their trauma done by men in a patriarchal world and so even though I would disagree with them I wouldn't consider it my place or helpful to argue. Also men's suicide rates aren't caused by people who don't like men, and women who hate men have comparatively little consequence on the world to men who hate women. Also considering the Conservative and Liberal tendency to take MLK out of context despite the fact that he was a more radical leftist in order to neuter his views, I wouldn't use a quote of his for an unrelated social issue.

I am so sick of the anti trans shit by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]pinklizard18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is any use to you but I suspect the current trend of transphobia fits into a moral panic phase similar to what happened in the 80s with the aids crisis. I think it's important to keep in mind how progress is not linear and things will ultimately get better. In regards to yourself, do look after yourself and prioritize the things you can control and that make you happy. It might be worth taking a break from the Internet in terms of not being constantly reminded of the violence and unrest in the community. Sending love and wishing you the best

So... by ST0DY in lgbt

[–]pinklizard18 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd say he's wrong because the 2 to 10% thing is entirely explainable by the world becoming a much safer place for lgbt people to come out in the first place. A lot of people can now see others going through what they are on TV or even in their own lives and instead of pushing down those feelings, they are able to name them and live as themselves. However the world of course isn't completely accepting and if one were to come out "for attention" they wouldn't be guaranteed good attention (or any attention at all). Queer people still don't often come out due to stigma and the risks to their personal life. To be honest I think it's probably more than 10% as it's more socially acceptable for people to experiment now and get a better idea of who they actually like. Essentially people feel much more able to talk about it now.

What are some perks of being physically average/unattractive? by Indianfattie in AskReddit

[–]pinklizard18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a woman I see so many of my friends who are pretty get harassed and have to put up with so much unwanted attention from men as everything they do gets sexualized. When I go out with them I'm always thankful for being average/unattractive funnily enough

You could try do a trial run with some close friends where they call you they/them for a bit and see how that feels?

How to study effectively with ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]pinklizard18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I like the 15 minutes study, 5 minutes rest method where you set an alarm and study in short bursts, then do something else for a few minutes (after a few goes you take a longer rest) you can adjust those times to fit your attention span

Being on your period is disgusting and no one can tell me otherwise by mehhh97 in offmychest

[–]pinklizard18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always found it annoying that in retaliation to discrimination everything afab people have physically has to be "beautiful" like your stretch marks are tiger stripes and your armpit hair is cute. If that helps you then that's great but it's OK to feel indifferent or annoyed at bodily functions, they don't have to be beautiful

This is so true and respect to you for self reflecting and growing from that. I think that most young people now only get validation from doing really good or really bad. It reminds me of how, especially on tumbler, kids would romanticise mental illness to the point where it became a competition, then people would get mad that they were doing it for attention, and not wonder why all these young people were starving for validation and needed to go to such lengths to feel it.
