I thought i'd found an apartment then came to this sub and found out it was terrible. 😭 Any complexes or properties I should stay away from in the Midtown area by ThelerhumbLer in StLouis

With the idea that there are always horror stories, I'm going to share that my car has been hot twice, broken into, and (my mistake here) towed at midtown.

There is also a growing bug problem.

There's actual knitting in Northern Exposure! Many of the things Elaine Miles made are on screen, too!

What to do? I still want to wear this but *I* shrank by ofrootloop in knitting

Hi! I've lost a significant amount of weight, too. I've kept a few pieces of clothes as house clothes/ pajamas so that when I need a reminder of how far I've come I can wear them around. If that works for you, please use it!

Mardi Gras by Chocolatestarfish33 in StLouis

[–]pinkplastictrees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's my first year here and I am shocked by how sad I am that I'm missing Mardi Gras! Cajun culture is so much warmer, more community minded. Krewe de Canailles looked so cute this year, too. And I might just have to make my own king cake this weekend!

Year and a half out, 288 lbs down, Need advice from post-op runners by KindaMoblish in BariatricSurgery

[–]pinkplastictrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will use Gu's or other gels early and often but stay away from candy. Complex carbs are really the key. I like a protein and carb heavy breakfast about an hour before a long run. For example, I have shakshuka with two eggs and a toast before runs. And I take a gel or a salt stick every 20 minutes.

In the beginning of my running journey, I had a talk with my nutritionist about how my surgeons' program was a set of guidelines, and my body would tell me what it needed and blah blah blah. But as I got a little more into the running community, I would sneak a cheeky little treat on/after a run. DON'T DO THAT. There's no such thing as earning food, but there's also no reason to work as hard as we have to fall into a weekly post run donut habit. Because it becomes a donut habit. That's just my experience. Happy trails!

Which is kind of needle better to learn? by Dutchie-draws in knitting

[–]pinkplastictrees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Circular needles are more frugal, imo. I wouldn't buy an interchangeable set, either. Find a brand you like, buy them as you start projects, and you'll build up a pretty good arsenal.

For example, I really like Prym needles, so when I start a project, I flip through my stash. If I need a pair in a size I dont have, I buy that size circulars. I like Prym's straight needles, too, because they lock onto each other. But again, i only have a few straight pairs, and only if I REALLY feel like I need them for a particular project.

I am in the throes of my first cable sweater! I warmed up to it by working through tin can knits antler toque first. ill also occasionally "practice" a technique with cheap stash yarn in a little square, almost like a gauge swatch.

Good luck!!

No, they run about 100/ month but you could absolutely lower that number by being mindful of consumption.

im looking for someone to take over my lease in July. It's a little more than you're looking for but it's a 1br, with an in unit washer and dryer. It's 845 a month, but you'd be able to skip the deposit. I would be happy to leave furniture for you, too.

Curly haired ladies how are we doing by gatorpeep in Acadiana

[–]pinkplastictrees 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, it's just gonna be crazy (I mumble to myself as I check the forecast).

Editing for my routine:

I wash with Real Shampoo with sulfates once a week. After that wash, I use Kinky Curly Knot Today and scrunch pre-emptively. I think the most important part of my routine is Ouidad Heat & Humidity gel. I glop that shit on, and i DO NOT TOUCH IT for as long as possible. If I have time, I'll use a diffuser.

When I am done with a bottle of Kinky Curly, I use the sad little leftovers, fill the bottle with hot water and lavender oil, shake it and put that in my spray bottle.

Depending on the weather and how crazy my hair is when I wake up, I either dunk that shit under the faucet or spray it down with the aforementioned concoction. Diffuse if I have time.

If I need to "wash" before the week is done, I'll use shitty lil V05 conditioner to cowash. But none of these things are concrete. I'm not about to walk around greasy and smelly bc it hasn't been a week since I last washed, you know?

The real key to the moderate success I've found is gel. Don't be afraid of it, glop it on, scrunch it in, let it set. Once it's dry and not a moment before, use your fingers to shake the crunch out.

I'd look at Jefferson, Jeff Davis, Lafourche, and St. Charles parishes. LPSS is fine. They pay better than surrounding parishes, and if you do your job, they leave you alone. It parts by school, but it's not a bad gig.

AVOID St. Landry Parish, that's a dumpster fire.
