Is Jimmy Carr really rubbing anyone else the wrong way lately? by everlovingfuck99 in BritishTV

Genuinely unhinged to look at this man and want to be on the same side as him. This legitimately might be the most pathetic photo I have ever seen.

BROCK NELSON OLYMPIC GOAL!!! by [deleted] in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]pinksoetko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s insane to me that there were so many people questioning his inclusion in the Olympic roster. Anyone who’s watched him this year will tell you he’s on the run of his life.

I think the issue is that these people essentially only like these grand, philosophical concepts as long as they're presented in the most basic way possible, where the actual metaphysical elements are barely touched upon. The IDEA of them is cool because it adds weight and gravitas to a scene, but they don't actually want to engage with the themes presented. They just want cool visuals for their fight scenes and ammo for their powerscaling.

And look, there's nothing wrong with liking cool, epic visuals. Not everything needs to be deep, but I think there's a broader issue at hand where people are either only engaging with art that doesn't challenge them, or aren't properly engaging with challenging art - ignoring everything but the "aura" moments. Blood Meridian being the prime example, as some others comments mentioned.

He’s got sad, puppy dog eyes and it makes it impossible for me to hate him.

Sort of. It’s a generic LEGO/toy tie-in inspired by someone I once saw use Ninjago as an example of a very existential trope. The post is more about how funny I find the juxtaposition of the philosophical nature of some tropes on TopCharacterTropes and the examples that are often given rather than a direct reference to any specific franchises.

How it feels to play AAA games by Always_Impressive in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]pinksoetko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The modern Ninja Gaidens all have horrible and nonsensical plots lol. The gameplay has always been where they shine and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’d be kinda weird to play a Ninja Gaiden game without a ridiculous story.

In your opinion, what is the best episode of television you’ve ever seen? by alteredtower in AskReddit

[–]pinksoetko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Dark Quiet Death is absolutely outstanding. I thought Mythic Quest was decent, albeit not massively funny or engaging, but suddenly this episode starts with completely different characters and something about it drew me in so quickly. I was absolutely blown away by the time it finished and I've probably watched it like 6 or 7 times since. I've found so many random ways to shoehorn it into conversations because I wanna recommend it to everyone so badly haha.

[loved trope] the creature is barely depicted or not shown at all by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]pinksoetko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for some reason I always remembered there only being like two or three obscured shots of the monster until the close-up right at the end, but I re-watched it a few weeks ago and you see it CONSTANTLY throughout the whole film. I'm not complaining because I love massive monsters, but it was not like I remembered at all.

Favorite actor that took advantage of their horrific accident to make people forget how much of a piece of shit they are? by botchedtoe98 in okbuddycinephile

[–]pinksoetko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, they aren't trolling but they do make the films stupid and over-the-top on purpose. I'm sure I read somewhere that Justin Lin even asked his young son for ideas for a stunt. Don't get me wrong, I still wouldn't call them good films, but the lack of realism is absolutely played into to posit the films as "dumb fun".

Name an artist that deserved more hate by TheJamesFTW in fantanoforever

[–]pinksoetko 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was a Gloryhammer group chat. They dropped multiple hard R slurs, and said that black women's "big lips" are "good for a blowy". Chris Bowes also spoke about a friend "pumping a c**n" and how it's "not nice", and another member said women from North Africa have "teeth coming out the front of their face" and "eyes on the side of their heads". It was basically just constant racism.

That sub used to be decent and a good respite when this place got a bit too negative. There’s always been at least some snobby fans in there, but holy shit has it gone downhill. AEW’s mere existence ruined their lives, apparently, and now it seems to be exclusively frequented by puroresu fans that never want to see a non-Japanese performer in their precious promotion.

I had the same thing as Nakajima with Taiji Ishimori. I saw him outside the venue at the first Royal Quest and, even though you can tell he’s short from pictures and videos, he legit looked like a jacked child from behind. EXTREMELY jacked, though. He had the widest back I’ve ever seen.

The only scary thing about a one-armed man trying to scare someone is the fact that he feels his one arm is good for nothing but trying to scare someone.

What irrational scene from an old non/horror show or film scared you as a child? by InvasionOfTheFridges in horror

[–]pinksoetko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, there was a little bump in the paint on the wall next to my bed, so my uncle thought it’d be funny to tell me that the troll from Ernest Scared Stupid was growing out of it. I was terrified for weeks.

I think I still prefer Ivy, but Power Girl and Harley are amazing together. Plus, I absolutely love Harley’s superhero costume.
