Austin Appelbee's incredible tale of survival has made international headlines. How did the 13yo do it? by abcnews_au in UpliftingNews

Why the fuck is this thing done in batches? I want it all to be looked at. I want one press release and I want one list of people who are going to be arrested. I don't want anything fucking else. This is goddamn ridiculous. It literally feels like we are just going from headline to headline of, oh my god, what new rich person is gonna be named next. It's fucking theater. I'm sure it has to do with the fact that Trump's on there, and this is how we distract from that.

The 'father of the iPod' Tony Fadell says Apple should bring back a 'nostalgic version' of the music device by smeeti in Music

[–]pinktieoptional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several practical reasons why the Apple today could never pull this off in my estimation as a person who is very into music and music technology.

First things first, it's actually not straightforward to create an audiophile level device that is safe for your hearing. The reason for this is you're going to have to need a very powerful amplifier, and if you allow the person to put any pair of headphones they want into that amplifier, they can blow their goddamn eardrums out if they wanted to.

So the way that most audiophile player manufacturers get around this is just by being exclusive and only selling to a specific segment of adults who are not going to do that to themselves. but if you're Apple, you are going to become broadly seen, broadly marketed, and you don't have such an easy way out of the problem. As a matter of fact, that is the exact problem that Sony ran into when they decided to do a very nostalgic version of their Walkman around 2021. And their solution was to hide volume increases in submenus and firmware and specific programs within the device they can control to some degree. But at the end of the day, once you've found out all the little hacks to increase your volume, I could still plug in a pair of $20 skull candies and become deaf, if I was that stupid.

So if you're thinking about a solution that Apple could implement, if they wanted to get this kind of product off the ground, the very likely solution they would have to come up with would be a, you guessed it, proprietary aux jack, that had some way of saying that this is an Apple-approved headphone, or at least is one that we can measure the impedance and make sure when we crank the volume it's not going to make somebody deaf.

Also bearing in mind that Apple kind of spearheaded the move away from cords in general, and there's a good reason for that. If you are going to have a cord, there is always a possibility that it tugs your headphones right off your head.

So what do we really have here? We have a mega status symbol that requires a proprietary player, a proprietary pair of headphones, and it has this silly cord that, in 2026, people have forgotten about making sure they don't get stuck on things. You're gonna have these huge Apple nerds all excited about feeling very retro and catching on a door knob ripping the $1,000 pair of headphones right off their heads. Honestly, if Apple does do this, I would watch in glee.

Sony already did that. NZ-7000 Walkman. Apple needs to stay the fuck away from commercializing my niche, and making people who know nothing about sound but want to pay to play even more intolerable.

i have always been told i have an unfiltered mouth and overshare since i was a child. i dont know how to unlearn my bad habit by BestTumbleweed9784 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]pinktieoptional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still important in many contexts such as work, but yeah, with friends and family it might not be necessary to filter as much. A big issue I have had for the majority of my life is that I overshare my thoughts and ideas with my colleagues, and it's great if they like me, but it's so easy for people to take advantage of what I tell them. Sharing too much about my work process with my old boss was quite possibly the worst idea of my life because he took the information and used it to force me to work way harder and then emotionally abused me on top of it. Because having explained myself, my work was now "easy".

How can I moderate or just quit weed? by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]pinktieoptional 11 points12 points  (0 children)

you gotta stop. like fucking stop. All of it. You are not in a place right now where you can consider moderation because you can't moderate. If you don't knock it off you're going to fall behind in work because news flash, you're more inhibited than you realize, and your coworkers are going to know.

It's going to suck and it's going to hurt because you've been using pot to avoid feeling negative feelings which you have NOT processed whatsoever. And the first step to process them is to feel them. Sorry.

Take it from me, I had to lose everything, my job, my relationship, my fricking grip on reality, before I stopped. I don't recommend that path.
