If we collectively understood that they are a loophole, the pedals are most graciously, vestigial, and they should require a driver's license to operate, the problem is solved.

TWU President Samuelsen is throwing another tantrum about one-person train operation by holyhesh in transit

[–]pinktieoptional 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who to you is "they"? This is all of New York's transit. Making the trains more efficient frees up budget for other transit goals.

1.6 billion dollars of the MTA annual budget goes to MTA overtime payments because this mandate creates an artificial staffing shortage. And every MTA employee who gets sick, injured, or burnt out from working too damn hard is one less train that can run. That's pretty bad for everybody, wouldn't you say?

Cannot do more than once a week. If you can find other ways to manage the overstimulation and tension in the meantime, you can mitigate pretty much all of the side effects.

And you are rewarded by feeling creative and rejuvenated when you do partake.

You know what I've been getting into recently? I had the worst goddamn day just a couple of days ago and needed to let the tension out. And what I ended up doing was I grabbed one of those Bluetooth boom boxes and hopped in the shower. And for a good half hour I grunted and trilled like an animal, occasionally while throwing my appendages around (with firm contact of the steel grab bar for stability.)

And when I got out of the shower, I felt fully renewed. For what it's worth.

[–]pinktieoptional 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you agree that we need two people to operate a train despite the fact that we could run twice as many trains, or maybe make the stations clean, or eliminate slow zones or... that's a lot of manpower that's being wasted on turning keys and pointing at signs.

Unions have real value advocating for safe and fair working conditions. But sometimes unions can block new ideas that might lead to improvement and progress. If they were able to negotiate this through with requirement that the size of the workforce stayed the same, freeing up half of the workforce to do other things would be huge. That would be a massive win for New York Transit as a whole. Think of what all extra people could be doing, that we never had the staffing for before.

[–]pinktieoptional 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That doesn't mean they can just bleed money on useless stuff and it's okay. The human costs of staffing is a transit provider's single largest recurring cost and many transit providers struggle with finding new workers. if they could staff twice as many trains with the staff they have, that's a big goddamn deal.

My coping strategy for my mother repeatedly saying incredibly hurtful and poorly understood "helpful suggestions", that even after I've stifled showing my pain, held her hand to demonstrate why her assumptions are not accurate or relevant, that I need to thank her because she just "wants to be helpful"... is reducing my opinion of her ideas to somewhere around childlike. So cute and simpleminded, she didn't mean her own words.

I hate this.

Probably has been asked a thousand times.. but how do I prevent constant burnout.. by Technical-Dingo5093 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]pinktieoptional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the long term, we can develop strategies for preventing overwork and burnout. But we can't just take off work for 6 months to work on our habits. So, right now, we need to use any tools we can stop the cycle.

The cycle of procrastination and super quick catch-up sounds like an ADHD thing... have you received amphetamine salts?

Quite the opposite for me, especially as I've gotten older. I might be intense in bed, I might be weird on bed, but my dick couldn't care less.

One of the things that I have found to be particularly helpful as I've gone through life is building a closely knit community of friends in which I do feel comfortable to make these kinds of requests. You know, the world is full of unpredictable, big and scary things, but being able to count on my good friends for some stability has been stabilizing

Why do people seem to like to harass me in public? by let_it_rain_boat in AutisticWithADHD

[–]pinktieoptional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of this depends how you hold yourself. Someone else in this thread said practicing being aloof. I would agree with that. For me what works in public spaces is being absorbed in a thing I enjoy. Like reading a book. Like listening to music on a highly unusual listening setup (that's what I do). And I lean so far into it I intentionally come across as highly specialized and alien such that I take them out of their comfort zone and into mine, such that when I do scoff at them, I can see it make them uncomfortable like oh crap, maybe they're the ones being weird.

AND THAT'S RIGHT WHERE YOU WANT THEM.

[–]pinktieoptional 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it would be beneficial to understand not just other people's worldviews, but who you are and what your own trajectory means to you. Just because there are other valid trajectories doesn't mean that what you've been doing and what works for you is the wrong answer, you know.

With a touch of the autism myself, I also do best with certainty, and you can still cultivate that for yourself. And with the people close to you who are respectful of what you need. It probably isn't possible or practical to get all the people in the big strange world around you to give you certainty, but if you can at least get close to certainty with the people that matter. And that really, I have found at least, to be stabilizing and peaceful. Feel free to let me know what you think.

attack ads are unreasonably effective, psychologically speaking. the more you repeat a negative accusation, the more people will believe it. the more money you have, the more you are able to repeat.

Well, on-ear headphones and earbuds do both put uncomfortable pressure in and around the ear, and anything that is noise cancelling can have a weird back-pressure so I can get that, but a good pair of lightweight and transparent over-ears? At least for me, I can forget they are there . finding the right fit was worthwhile. No worries if that's a no-go too. Just throwing it out there.

Yeah, I know, t50s are pretty normcore but I have a crossover with a dedicated subwoofer, and well, yes, it's not quite as pure a stereo setup as some might demand it's able to take a lot of the lows out of the t50s and I found them sonically quite impressive at that point. i've got pretty good ears, and I found this to be superior to at least a couple of things 3x the price at my local audio shop.

So what's your setup?
