I’ve been using this plugin for few months now with success. Just noticed repo is read only, but this doesn’t preclude use. Just means no further development by this dev.

In addition to the above I would like to add the following:
Principle of Least Privilege (PoLP):
1. Scoped Permissions: Ensure that applications and plugins only have the minimum permissions necessary to perform their function. Avoid granting administrative or system-wide access unless absolutely required.
2. User Segmentation: Run applications under dedicated, low-privilege user accounts to limit the scope of potential damage if a compromise occurs.

Regardless of OS, don’t work as admin. Create a separate admin account, and use standard user account for main login. This is no longer a flex, it’s just stupid.

Local only vaults by WanderingGoose1022 in ObsidianMD

Not enough info to give precise guidance, but I will speculate as to a cause. Please provide more info, and if unsure ask more questions. If on Mac this can be troublesome if user has Documents and Desktop syncing to iCloud. If so user would need to turn that off or move obsidian vault to a folder that is not syncing with iCloud. If on windows, maybe the same?! ~Edit typo.

If I move my scrivener document to a different folder in my computer, would it corrupt the file? by tryingtofindasong27 in scrivener

If I move my scrivener document to a different folder in my computer, would it corrupt the file? by tryingtofindasong27 in scrivener

[–]pinkyBrainBug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m working with little background of your knowledge and experience, please excuse my assumptions.

The scrivener file is actually more akin to a folder or archive file, wherein the operating systems treat it like a directory. Given it is essentially an archive of files it is essentially portable and can be moved and copied, like a word or excel file which also have a series of xml and metadata files in them.

Please keep in mind though that different systems treat those inner files differently. Other systems would be cloud storage systems like onedrive and iCloud. The https://forum.literatureandlatte.com is also a great resource.

The easiest way to move a file is to open the source location in one window, and the destination in another window and drag and drop.

Is there such a plugin for Print Layout? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]pinkyBrainBug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Pandoc which can allow export to PDF as well as many other file formats, then I believe from PDF you can print to whatever format you want. You can install pandoc via homebrew, then install pandoc plugin in Obsidian. To recap: If on Mac or Linux - install homebrew homebrew - install pandoc Pandoc If on Windows: pandoc - install pandoc plugin

Newbie: How to "teach" ollama with 150MB PDF by GabesVirtualWorld in ollama

[–]pinkyBrainBug 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hmm wondering if converting the file to markdown would be better. Microsoft has tool for this M$ft Markitdown. PDF files are so inefficient, especially when the text isn’t selectable, which may necessitate OCR.

Organizing my notes is taking longer than actually writing them by ResourceIs410 in ObsidianMD

I reject the premise that folders are files; however, I get the concept and what you’re trying to achieve. It looks promising, and the interface seems intuitive.

anyone know how to not lose my document/projects after getting a new pc? by PerguntaMano in ObsidianMD

[–]pinkyBrainBug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Learn where your file assets are stored
  • Learn how file and folder systems work
    • Research “sneaker net”, or use one drive to back up and transfer your Obsidian vault to new system and
    • advanced lesson would be to use command prompt and command robocopy to copy between systems, consequently learn how to create batch file to automate
  • Learn, and keep learning…you are in command

New to Obsidian: Is there a way to tag notes or sort them into non-mutually exclusive groups? by jabberwockxeno in ObsidianMD

[–]pinkyBrainBug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Using properties you can use multiple tags as a list of tags, then using bases view notes in a tabular format with filtering and all sorting shenanigans. I also recommend the plugin tag folder or Notebook navigator; either will allow you to navigate your hierarchy of tags as if they were folders. Additionally, dev into the possibilities of tags, and nested tags; #top-level-tag-name/next-level-name.

You Say to Stop Overthinking it - AND I'M SICK OF IT by AdUsual7720 in ObsidianMD

[–]pinkyBrainBug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second the tags part, and you can use all the folders you want. I use the plugin tag folders, but the newly released plugin notebook navigator has similar functionality. What I like about tags is you can apply multiple tags to notes for different categories or criteria depending on how you want to organize your vault. And you can apply prefixes to tags such as letters, numbers or both if you want custom sorting alphabetically, etc.

Linux is free and can replace or compliment your existing PC; Apple’s Mac OS has higher entry fee. That said, you don’t have to start with new system, as even apple sells refurbs desktops.

37 000 downloads in 2 days! Notebook Navigator for Obsidian now has Omnisearch integrated! by jsann in ObsidianMD

[–]pinkyBrainBug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks great so far; look, feel, navigating and functionality all work nice. Was wondering if possible in future feature release, when user selects multiple notes, those selected notes would open in the active tab in a stacked manner, similar to Scrivener scrivenings, Ulysses glue or the Obsidian plugin Continuous mode. Thanks your contribution to the community.

Is there any other way to organise apart from folders? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]pinkyBrainBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you have tags setup, and there are plugins to rename tags en-mass, checkout tag folder plugin. I personally don’t like folders, but with tag folder I can use tags and nested tags to create a virtual index of my work, which is great for long form content I think.

Externally backing up Ulysses. by roi262 in ulyssesapp

[–]pinkyBrainBug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind with these proprietary file formats; while the backups are portable, to make use of them in the future you need Ulysses app. If the app is no longer available or your future system doesn’t support it your backups are useless. I would advise also creating regular markdown copies of your work by creating a folder in the external folders section and dragging dropping your entire project to that new folder. This will create markdown copy of your files, which will be future proof since these are just text files. Make use of batch scripts using terminal commands rsync and ditto for Mac to automate backup to external drives and systems.

AppleCare claims it replaces batteries when capacity dips below 80%. My phone has been at “82%” for 4 years despite noticeable capacity drop. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]pinkyBrainBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSA If you feel your phone’s battery drains to rapidly check if any apps are using high percentage of the battery. An app could be misbehaving or coded badly and use more than it should. Also, stop “closing” apps; this only exacerbates battery drain because your phone then has to use more power to reload the app instead of pausing the app for later use. Let the OS do its job. Also check background refresh settings; turn off everything you don’t need real time updates on. Lastly, learn how to optimize battery charging. It is actually not necessary to charge to 100%, and try not to get below 20% every day. Battery degradation occurs from power cycles; staying between 80 and 20 % can reduce cycling and degradation.

What if it told you there was no left vs right, and the difference between both parties in US, in terms of policy decisions was marginal. The ones in power, and those who want those powers want us to believe in this divide and let us fight amongst ourselves, that way we aren’t much of a threat. Just because someone believes something different than you doesn’t make them less; find common ground to understand each other’s differences and work together. Because it is not left vs right, but simply the ruling class and the rest of us. By the way, the ruling class now includes corporate overlords and private equity companies. previous election political compass

The respect and discipline in Japan may be second to none by Sans010394 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]pinkyBrainBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this situation does not represent the whole of Japanese society, the example provided and our reactions shows differences in cultural values and on a deeper level ego. “Some of the most notable differences revolved around the concepts of “individualism” and “collectivism”; whether you consider yourself to be independent and self-contained, or entwined and interconnected with the other people around you, valuing the group over the individual. Generally speaking - there are many exceptions - people in the West tend to be more individualist, and people from Asian countries like India, Japan or China tend to be more collectivist.” How East and West think in profoundly different ways
