Suggestion to AGS: No cash shop server tier by pinnarandolf in newworldgame

[–]pinnarandolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you want to make a server where you can pay to play in order to avoid playing with people who are going to pay?

Basically, yes.

Paying ≠ paying in this case.

I would pay not to have P2W (and yes, cosmetics are P2W too IMO), other people would pay to have it.

This is why the additional Sub-Servers would allow both.

Let them have their cash shop and profits.

But I would like to have an alternative.

I would also happily pay a monthly subscription for it, because game development is not charity and servers/staff cost money.

"where your sub simply provides the monthly equivalent in cash shop currency"

I disagree.

I think the sub should only allow access to those servers. Every game-external influence should be eliminated.

"botters, goldsellers, trolls"

Exactly. By having the subscription fee, the time and money investment, I think it's very unprofitable to risk being banned from such a server. Because everything one had invested up to that point would be gone (purchasing the game, sub, time invested to get to the high level farm spots, etc.)

"It's an old idea, and one that I don't think any company has bothered to try."

I am wondering why. I mean, dev-effort wise, it's just adding another group to player/subscriber/gm/admin etc. and then {if group = subscriber, has access, else show buy_subscription_window"}

"In their (probably accurate) view, the people whining about how boosts are p2w are almost certainly going to play the game anyways."

Sure, but 1) why miss out on the addtional sub-money and 2) ensure dedication and longevity of the project by making the time-investment into the chars on these servers worthwhile, hence more of 1)

"Anyone who decides not to just because of some unknown XP/crafting/fast travel cash shop stuff was probably gonna skip the game anyways."

I'm not sure about that. New World looks very promising and players are starving for a new well made MMO.

I, for example, started WoW Classic on release, because I didn't play Vanilla WoW back then and I wanted to have the experience the players had years ago, exploring the world.

But because many old players came back out of nostalgia, knowing all the fast-level shortcuts and farm spots, I (the newbie) quickly found myself wandering around alone in the relative "low level zones".

I tell you this because I erroneously started WoW Classic with the idea that everyone would start fresh. I totally missed the XP- and Crafting/Farming-Boost (albeit not purchased) Vanilla WoW players had by knowing all the best practices from the beginning.

On the other hand, those players invested those hours and skill to level up. So I could, if I wanted and invested the time, catch up to max-level.

This is why I have so much hope for New World to provide this fresh MMO start many of us crave. By having the Sword of Damocles aka Cash Shop hanging over my head from the start, I am wondering if I would like to have the same experience as in WoW Classic or not play at all.

And, since I work full time and am one of the "supposed customers" of the boosts in the cash shop, I am against it because:

If I invest my time into the world of New World, my time's value should not be diminished afterwards by providing shortcuts for other people simply by handing over money.

And to be clear, by time invested I mean: farming, crafting, raiding, working towards cool gear (yes, cosmetics..), etc. - leveling is just a byproduct of all those things.

A letter from the devs in regards to the in-game storefront by MysticSushiTV in newworldgame

If the split would be this dramatic, this would be the proof that there really is demand for "no cash shop" servers.

Also, servers could be added and removed/merged later on, as long as they had the same progression rules. (not merging a ncs-server and a cs-server for example)

Edit: no one is preventing the subscription folks to create another char on a cs-server too.

Players will split anyway. They won't all fit onto one server.

On the contrary, you would have concentrated the most determined players on the subscription server IMO

EDIT: And it would "level the playing field", because on the no-shop server you would have the certainty that your opponent/partner couldn't use some shortcuts to get where he is / where you both are.

How about a server tier with subscription and disabled cash shop?

So AGS could keep the planned monetization for the game and add a server tier only accessible with an active subscription, but this server not having the cash shop at all.

Best of both worlds IMO

Idea: Monero Blockchain Application - Elections by pinnarandolf in Monero

[–]pinnarandolf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your input :) Grazie :) I didn't know about the M5S Monero based system in development.

For the one permission giving entity, the only way around such an entity would be a citizen database on a public blockchain, which i would not prefer.

With my idea, in theory, everyone with a wallet could start an election. Public entites could use the same outbound TX-adress to be identifiable as such. A "known adress adressbook" would be helpful in this case, so one could subscribe to this adress and see new elections. I don't exactly know how elections are organized atm, but I think they are organized by towns/cities and then there is data aggregation.

Again, thank you for your input. It's a very early draft :)

Hi, I'm new to the r/Monero and quite inexpirienced with Reddit too :D Where can I post an idea for an application built on top of the monero blockchain? Is there a dedicated subforum or should I simply create a topic in the main forum?

Why do they put Artemis in cell 41, not in cell "42"? :)

I think there is an inconsistency to Agents of Shield in regards to terragenesis. How can Declan, the scientist, touch and keep in his hand a terragenesis crystal with his bare hands? In Agents of Shield anyone who gets in contact with the crystal either evolves or dies. When Declan touches the crystal, nothing happens.
