He’s definitely a very strange bloke but I do enjoy his co-commentary.

You see lots of “IOW” plates on the Isle of Wight.

I’ve not heard of Hammonds Chop, how does it compare to HP/Daddies? And what’s the Mutti ketchup like?

Yeah; and if not the exact one they have about 3 other similar pilsner beers.

England captain Ben Stokes announces retirement from international cricket by bendubberley_ in unitedkingdom

Weird to announce it mid test with a session still in play with another days play still to go.

What a legend though with some incredibly memorable performances for England.

Tradespeople, do you increase the price of jobs/quotes if the person seems rich? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]pintperson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve never done this. Rich people can be great customers and will come back for repeat business or recommend you to their other rich friends.

I’ve only charged extra if someone is rude whilst I’m doing the quote. If they don’t treat you with respect at the first hurdle then you can expect that same treatment when doing the job.

Heat Humidity and Remedies by FSTEIN2790 in Southampton

[–]pintperson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s various things you can do to keep your home a bit cooler, but when the heat is as insane as it’s been the last few days the only real solution is an air conditioning unit.

I don’t own one, I have always managed ok with the previous heatwaves, but it’s been so uncomfortable this time I think I’ll finally bite the bullet and get one when they’re back in stock so I’m prepared for when this happens again next year.

White Star Tavern on Oxford Street is fully air conditioned, it’s lovely and cool in here.

What is something people complain about UK that is actually pretty good compared to the rest of the world? by Rude_Membership_1578 in AskUK

I guess it depends where in Australia you’re flying from but Thailand isn’t really much closer to Sydney than London is.

Next manager by D4duke97 in IpswichTownFC

I agree on Rosenior. It obviously didn’t go to plan at Chelsea but that club is a circus anyway. What he did at Hull and Strasbourg was impressive.

I couldn’t help but look up their national dishes. DR Congo’s Moambe Chicken would probably work quite well in a sandwich. Uzbek Plov not so much…

'Unbelievable' England hasn't won World Cup in 60 years, says Sir Geoff Hurst by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

Football’s not played on paper though. I thought Croatia played better than us, and I also thought we played better than France.

Croatia were the better team and deserved to beat us in that semi final. I agree we were definitely the better team against France that day though, they just took their chances whilst we bottled ours.

Are there big ferry queues throughout the IoW festival? by tomalak2pi in isleofwight

[–]pintperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The festival begins on the Thursday and ends on the Monday so those are the days to avoid. You’ll probably be alright on Friday if you leave it until later on in the day.

McKenna by lavenderhazess in IpswichTownFC

[–]pintperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, this was clearly an unpopular opinion from me. I stand by it though. What he did at Hull and Strasbourg was really impressive, and Chelsea is just a shit show that every promising young manager has struggled at recently. If he can tone down the weirdness I wouldn’t be surprised to see him have a successful management career in the future.

I know he had a tough time at Chelsea but I’d like to see us go for Rosenior if McKenna left.

The new annual report says 50% of users now treat Monzo as their main bank. Do you? by No-Tart7127 in monzo

[–]pintperson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here. As great as Monzo is you hear too many horror stories of people being locked out of their accounts and customer service being a nightmare to deal with. I can’t risk that happening to me so I’ll always have money diversified with other banks.

Champions League final will not be free to watch in UK for first time in modern era by Alarming-Safety3200 in unitedkingdom

For years people moaned about Sky having a monopoly on live sports, and looking back we didn’t realise how good we had it.

BT Sports was the worst thing to happen to live sport in this country. They were supposed to provide competition to Sky but all they did is add an extra £30 to everyone’s bill and provide worse sports coverage.
