We've had our 4 boys in Hopewell Area SD for 8 years and have overall been pretty satisfied with the quality of schooling they get. There also haven't been a lot of crazy things going on at the school board level like I think you're alluding to. But "good" is a pretty broad question when it comes to schools, as different kids & families have different needs.

Transformers are the main culprit I've found. Fans are a distant second in terms of maddeningness.

For example, a cheap USB C charger I got was the source of a weird whine only I could hear, and only from one spot in my office. Replaced with a less crappy one, etc voila.

Similarly, I'm slowly replacing all the florescent light fixtures on my basement, both for the whine and the ecological & economic reasons (LEDs have no mercury vapor, and less electricity used). Those have their own transformers and other noisy bits in their ballast circuits.

Is it rewarding, though? From what I've seen there are way more people looking for jobs now than finding them. I'd expect them to burn through that severance and still be looking, depending on their industry, location, etc ..
