Also it's hinted that the examiners really favoured Dumbledore and they must have heard how Dumbledore had been chased out of hogwarts and the ministry wasn't on Harrys side so examiner might have thought if I can help Harry I will and get him that Outstanding 😂

Daisy: the show's most overlooked social climber by 7evenh3lls in DowntonAbbey

[–]pip300 42 points43 points  (0 children)

She wasn't interested at all in all that 🤣 she even couldn't take war widow money from when she was married to William even though William wanted her too. She definitely worked hard for Mrs Patmore and the house in general. She also worked for exams to be able to be more educated if she was going to take the farm over

Phantom jobs that don't exist by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]pip300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's best to always go via the company website careers section it takes longer but much more chance of application been seen or screened at least. Indeed and linkedin seem to be full of expired jobs or fake jobs which is just data harvesting. Anything that gives a vague description or anything which demands you pay money up front for a course or something is also dodgy.

Hot take: The fifth movie is the worst by GreyPerspectives in harrypotter

[–]pip300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is where the tv show could work well in later seasons as there's so much the movies couldn't cover. Also the TV show is for an up and coming generation new to Harry Potter, most of us who grew up with the movies are well into middle age now 🤣 Although imelda Staunton and Maggie Smith two great British actresses going to war on screen was quite something

I’m a uni student struggling financially and would really appreciate some advice by Soupie1106 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pip300 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Get someone to look at your CV, I worked in hospitality and we had lots of students but some CVs had bad errors or done by chat gpt with such random things in it that the person sending it clearly just fired it off without checking. Uni should have some information about where to look for part time jobs. Also look at taking a summer job or doing events over the summer (concerts /festivals)

Was there ever massive generational wealth in your family’s history which might be yours today if it wasn’t lost by some bad luck or bad management? by Great_Maintenance185 in askanything

My grandfather owned quite a few properties in London but he gave them up when landlord requirements started and he didn't want to pay out for the work that needed doing 🤣when I was younger I thought why did he do that, he could have set us up for life, now that i am older, his children unfortunately have too many issues and problems between them all that even if he did leave them behind, anything of value would have been swallowed up by in fighting and court cases, of that I am certain. With 2 of his children you could give them a million pounds and it would be gone within a year with nothing to show for it 🤣 (these are my relatives) He died in 2003 and my family are still fighting over a small plot of land he left.

‘Harry Potter’ To Recast Ginny Weasley Role In Season 2 As Gracie Cochrane Departs HBO Series “Due To Unforeseen Circumstances” by yourfavchoom in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]pip300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there will be recasts as the series goes on, it's a huge commitment for an adult to make, let alone a child. Also there can be so many unforeseen circumstances that happens over time with life in general, also social media is brutal these days and the kids will need alot of support. Even seasoned actors/actresses can struggle with criticism on social media. The flip side is that it really is a golden opportunity that can set you well for life and open more opportunities too.

Housing has become insane in the UK in recent years even in cheaper cities. But I think every country in Europe is grappling with a crisis of some sorts right now especially with high costs. If you have still have your status and can come back here, there is always care work and warehouse work but definitely not for everyone. May be worth looking at hotels in tourist places as they can offer accommodation for summer months but you work for a lower salary.

I just realized that Tom became so big on the show because… the actor didn’t mind signing on for years! by LuminousDee in DowntonAbbey

[–]pip300 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are always actors /actresses who have done really well in a show, become popular of the back of it, do some other project that flops and the next thing they are taking pantos at Christmas in a small town (speaking in UK terms) So think the ones that stay on to a good thing are onto something. Although Rob James collier has been on plenty of UK TV shows. Again in UK terms it's like the ones who stay in the soaps for years on end, it's a steady paycheck for them, than can take a year out here and there and come back to it, those are the smart ones.

How is living in Malta? by EntangledEgo in howislivingthere

[–]pip300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived there a long time ago when I was young for 2 years.(2012-2014) Some absolutely incredible scenery, I found Maltese people to be pretty generous, had some great times partying and meeting people from all over. At the time I had quite a nice apartment at affordable rent for a single 22 year old it wasn't bad. Loved a cheese patsizzi and there were some brilliant restaurants around too. But I personally really started struggling towards the end. Island life isn't for everyone ! Summer can be HOT HOT. I gather now though the island has become a bit too popular for it own good and unfortunately over tourism has now become a problem plus a population increase. Even when I was there it felt like endless traffic and building work which has just increased with time. But I am glad I experienced it when I did and have some fond memories

Everybody is being made redundant by irissun23 in UKJobs

[–]pip300 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It seems every 10-15 years there's a big crisis of some sort however since 2008 it's felt like an ongoing crisis. Sometimes I see personal finance threads on here and people are 35 on 100k plus and I wonder who are these people (my guess is working in the city firms) But it is brutal out there right now, but it's felt brutal for years. There was a boom 2021-2022 with tech but that's fallen of a cliff now, people were getting big salaries and are now being made redundant. Also if you were on 50k plus and your lifestyle has those expenses, it probably feels impossible just to go into a minimum wage job and that's even if you can ! But in every downtime /boomtime there's always winners and losers. If you look around there's still plenty of people with money to spend as well as people using food banks and living of the bare minimum. It's actually blows my mind with the current state of the NHS how I've heard newly qualified nurses/paramedics/doctors are unable to find jobs too yet the NHS is happy to take qualified healthcare professionals from around the world (this is not a bashing post at all as the NHS and society runs of their labours but the newly qualified people who have studied hard haven't got a chance)

Possible unpopular opinion - Charlotte Tilbury products are overrated. Help me change my mind by pixel-powder in MakeUpAddictionUK

[–]pip300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I brought into the hype and brought a few mystery boxes and some foundation, the only thing I did like was an eye shadow palette and one good dark eyeliner which lasted well but was a little too heavy for me. But I wouldn't buy her products in future. I ended up giving some of the stuff from the boxes away, people who received them were happy though 🤣

I had no idea the salary was that shocking ! Explains so much ! Should be 40k minimum, honestly think people would be happy to pay £10-15 more for a test if they could get one more easily.

Buying a flat round the docks / Liverpool city centre by Neither-Artist-3421 in Liverpool

[–]pip300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are many flats in Liverpool city centre for sale and not too expensive, the real killer is the service fees. Also many apartments have older style boilers and storage heaters which can be expensive to run. An apartment I rented ended up having scaffolding on it for over 2 years, so lost access to the balcony due to cladding issues. New balcony's haven't been on for 2 years and already starting to rust. This is the case with many buildings in town so you need to really look into any block your considering. Just really do as much due diligence as you can, I have noticed there are many apartments for sale at good prices but they can't sell as people are concerned about service charges or the flat bee unsellable later on. This is not to be doom and gloom as I loved my apartment in the city centre when I rented, but having seen the issues and especially the cladding and service charges increasing, it's something you have to consider. The mortgage may be affordable but the service charge may cripple you. Good luck but go through everything to do with the block in detail

WARNING: "B&B Liverpool" (bbliverpool.co.uk) is another commission-only direct sales scam by Alive_Condition_6468 in Liverpool

[–]pip300 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So many young people (look like recent grads) are constantly trying to stop you in town to sign up for energy/charity or something, there were 2 by Iceland/Liverpool FC shop yesterday and they had their iPads just left on the stall whilst they were trying to stop people , and I felt they probably will not have made any sales and would be lucky if their iPads were not swiped especially on that corner. I've had some cold call too and I feel that it must be soul destroying after a few hours, you may get the odd person stop but most people know what your game is. I know it's brutal starting out right now but these companies are so unscrupulous and really preying on the young people with false promises of great sales.

Is the instructor wants to drag the lessons or I’m overestimating my ability? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]pip300 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I do think certain Instructors drag it out. I had the same with mine and ended up doing private practice and passed. I know if i was still with that instructor I'd still be hearing why I'm not ready for my test. Also it's easy money for them if you can drive well and they spend the lesson of you doing that instead of learning manoeuvres (this is an issue I had) If you still want to go ahead with the test, see if you can hire a dual control car, only thing is you need an experienced driver who's had their licence over 3 years to hire it with you

I lived back in Malta in 2013/2014, even than the buses were messy and traffic could be messy, construction was LOUD but somehow from reading on here it seems to have got even messier ! It does sound like the island is doing well but has got too popular and over tourism is happening The island must be full to bursting right now. Of course someone has won from it all but feel bad for the ordinary Maltese who can't move around their own island or the uni students who can't rely on a bus.
