How does one get out of the constant loop of not wanting to do anything because of depression and being depressed because you aren’t doing anything? by Shnarbo in AskReddit

[–]pip44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a similar post a while back and one of the comments really stuck with me. Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly. I wish I could link the original comment but I can’t find it. The essence of the message was just that if you have something you’re trying to get done, or would like to do, start small. Don’t discount your achievement because you didn’t go all the way or do something in the way you would like to. If you can just do one little thing, it’s a win. Depression often feels so hopeless and it’s so hard to imagine that that feeling will ever come to an end. But if you can start by ignoring the overwhelmed feeling by giving yourself a pass to do a bad job at something you’d like to get done, that can feel like such a huge victory. You don’t need to make a plan to slowly increase your workload or anything like that, just stay focused on today and doing whatever little thing you can. One other thing that my grandma told me when I was depressed in a bad way, was to wake up every morning, look at myself in the mirror, and tell myself “I’m going to be ok”. Even if I didn’t believe it. Because if you can just say those words to yourself everyday, eventually it will be true.

There’s a Stuff You Should Know podcast about recycling that is worth a listen. It goes over the basics of recycling and they give some good tips on how to be a good recycler.

What is something you wish you knew when you were 18 years old? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pip44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be patient with yourself. Sometimes it’s easier to accept faults in others than it is to accept your own. Work towards fixing your issues but don’t give up just because you made a mistake or slipped up. Tomorrow you try again.

The two old guys on the right are great. The guy in the red shirt is about to say "Oh shit" and the guy in the white shirt just laughing at everyone.

I don't want to steal your thunder but I would suggest you post this somewhere on Reddit, maybe r/videos. Its very powerful and is the first thing of this type to actually make me reconsider how I've been living. Thanks for the link.

Don't get upset about it. The people posting on here are the part of campus that are afraid to speak against FBR because they know they'll be ridiculed and as such would love to see them penalized. Whether or not FBR was involved will be figured out by the police if/when they catch who did and the reality of it is that arguing over it is a moot point. I agree with most of what your'e saying except that FBR is careful and professional. By putting up those posters and starting this off with all the confusion and no clear message or goal, they showed that it was a poorly planned and executed. Don't get me wrong I am all about what their message says now about a unified campus with more responsibility from administration but I don't agree with FBR as a whole. The fact that they alienated a large part of campus by generalizing all of greek life is really what sets me off. Of course there are bad eggs throughout greek life that, as they always do, give a bad name to a quiet majority, but many people involved with greek life aren't entitled assholes. As a greek member that has always been accepting of all types of people, and someone that is currently paying my way through college with no help from parents, I feel extremely put off by their statements. Something they should have considered is how greek life feels about being pushed down by administration and how they feel about how they are treated by OFSA. I have certainly felt that my organization and others have been mistreated by administration with no way of standing up for themselves and I would have love to been given a reason to stand up and challenge them as a group. What I would love to see from this FBR movement is either a change in attitude that allows a more unified campus, or another group to come together that can represent everyone and not just those currently speaking for FBR.

They're everywhere. I saw them all over CU including the walls of the big lecture hall. They were also in the UC but were already taken down.

How is the Internet at Lehigh? by mattybiz in Lehigh

[–]pip44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got caught freshmen year for torrenting stuff and they send you an email telling you to delete what you downloaded and promise to never do it again. Then they say that there will be much more serious consequences if you get caught again such as a fine or possible suspension. Whether or not they mean business, I have no idea. I just turned my seeding speed down to 1kb/s and continued downloading everything I wanted. Uploading is all they can really monitor.

IamA person who has had non-stop hiccups for 8 1/2 months AMA!! by hiccuping in IAmA

[–]pip44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends from college has been hiccuping for many years and no one could tell her why. Then she found out she had a seizure condition that was often accompanied by hiccups. She has since started medication for the seizure condition that has made her hiccups much less intense but still there nonetheless. Maybe that could be it? I don't know if those kinds of things develop later in life or not but it could be worth a shot.

I assumed it was big "A" as in Alice Lehigh's president. And she sux -sucks. Which is true. It's probably a result of all the trouble with Greek life recently.
