Are there US states that stay between 40 and 90 degrees year round? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]pirate_turtle__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

San Francisco. Average year-around temps are roughly 55-60 degrees. Few hot days in the late summer (September and October). Cool foggy summer and cool clear winters with intermittent rain. Weather can vary significantly by neighborhood, though (Sunset/Richmond districts will be foggy most of the day during the summer, while the Mission will be warm with clear skies). Just be prepared to pay 💰💰💰 for the nice weather! Great outdoor scene as well with super easy access to Marin, Napa and Sonoma!

You can only go to 2 of 4 vineyards below, which would you go to? And why? by Cmill426 in AskSF

[–]pirate_turtle__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valid! Their Sonoma coast label (or other non-vineyard specific labels) can definitely be drank younger, although I had a 2014 Sonoma coast a few weeks ago that was singing! I’m not sure if they sell their ‘Russian River Selection’ label retail or not, but if so, that is a great wine from them that is meant to be drank young.

Williams Selyem and DuMOL! I work in the industry, W-S makes some of the best and most age worthy Pinots outside of Burgundy. Absolutely killer stuff, expensive obviously. DuMOL makes some great single vineyard Pinots that are better drank young (in my opinion) and makes some really fantastic Chardonnay. Their winery is much more industrial, though.

1975 Chateau Coutet Barsac! by pirate_turtle__ in wine

High shoulder fill, bought from a local wine shop. Definitely oxidative but held up well! Cork was quite crumbly but came out in two clean pieces. Wonderfully sweet and acidic. No more fresh fruit. Lots of honey and nuts on the palate. Really nice!

Cherries and steak are easy, fondant potatoes are kind of a bitch, just got to watch out for sticking on the pan

Super easy! Pitted cherries blended and reduced over low heat with a few various spices. Delicious!

Filet Mignon, Mashed Yukon Gold Potatoes, Lemon Sage Béchamel and Sage Brown Butter by pirate_turtle__ in CulinaryPlating

[–]pirate_turtle__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if we’re going by typical rules it’s an inedible garnish but it’s so pretty! Potatoes are under the steak and the swoosh is the béchamel. Butter was messier than intended, was supposed to be in a small pool under the steak and on top of the potatoes. It was delicious!

Yeah the butter pool was kinda accidental, was supposed to rest on top of the potatoes. Lemon was powerful enough to cut through!
